Former Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic dead

Ratko Mladic, known as the "Butcher of Bosnia," rose to prominence during the breakup of Yugoslavia, and the Bosnian War. As commander of the Bosnian Serb army, he led the nearly four-year siege of Sarajevo and oversaw campaigns of ethnic cleansing. In July 1995, his forces entered Srebrenica, where around 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed in Europe’s worst massacre since the Holocaust. Arrested in 2011 and tried in The Hague, Mladic was convicted of genocide and war crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment.
