Vectis Colts faced a tough opener after a delayed start to their season.

The Hants U18 Division 2 game against Ellingham & Ringwood was played at Ventnor's Watcombe Bottom on Sunday, after enforced delays, lack of pre-season contact rugby due to baked summer pitches, and two venue changes.

Although Vectis got off to a good start, they were quickly pinned back by the visitors, who took a 12-0 lead after ten minutes.

Vectis managed to score through Freddie Hiom, with Tom Chamberlain adding the conversion.

However, Ellingham's skilful wide play and accurate kicking proved too much for Vectis, with their left winger scoring a hat-trick in a 59-7 win.

Despite the defeat, Vectis showed promising signs in their first contact game.

George Cowell was named player of the match, while notable performances came from Zary Hristov, Tom Chamberlain, Freddie Hiom, Fin Brown, Nick Waghorn, Hector Lovett-Fenner, and Michael Watts.

The U16s kicked off their league campaign away against US Heathens at US Portsmouth.

Despite a narrow 12-0 defeat, the team's defensive effort was praised, with superb tackling and disciplined ruck work keeping the hosts scoreless at half-time.

Coach Glenn McGinness commended the squad's physicality and team cohesion.

The U15s faced a tough battle away at Gosport & Fareham RFC.

Despite a difficult first half, the team rallied under the leadership of George Pim in the second half, dominating territory and putting pressure on the Gosport defence.

The U13s started their season on a high note, travelling to Eastleigh RFC with two full squads, the Chiefs and the Warriors.

The Chiefs levelled the scores at 3-3 by half-time, with the Warriors securing a 6-5 victory in the second half.
