An Isle of Wight recovery centre is set to expand its support services after securing £20,000 in funding.

The Light Recovery CIC, based in Newport, received the funding from the National Lottery Community Fund through its Awards for All programme.

The funds will help the centre strengthen and grow its support for people in recovery from addiction across the Isle of Wight.

Mat Riches, founder and director of The Light Recovery CIC, said: "This is an amazing award for us and, particularly at such an early stage in The Light's journey, it will help us achieve so many of the ambitions we have for the project.

"Since opening our doors we have already seen just how much need there is for community-based recovery support on the Island.

"We are building relationships and working alongside organisations including the Ryde Hive and Somerton Lodge, Inclusion and Equilibrium, and we are seeing first-hand the difference that connection, community and meaningful opportunities can make to people’s recovery.

"This funding gives us a sound foundation from which to grow."

The Light Recovery CIC opened its Newport hub earlier this year and offers peer support, creative activities, wellbeing groups and other services for those affected by addiction.

Mr Riches said the centre was "genuinely grateful" to the National Lottery Community Fund for its support.

He said the funding would help the project become "a really valuable part of the Island’s recovery community."
