[Current Mood |calm]

1. If you had to participate in one Olympic event, what would it be and why?
Basketball, or anything involving throwing a ball.

2. What is the one song you always sing along to?
There's way more than one! But just today, I was singing along to "Alone in Hollywood on Acid." Check it out:

3. Do you wear a seatbelt in the car?
Yes.

4. Car, SUV or truck and why?
Truck! BIG truck! Because large vehicles feel (are?) safer, and you can move things – good for thrifting furniture and stuff!

5. Are you a good/bad driver? Explain.
I'm what they call a "passenger princess."

The Friday Five for November 28, 2025 [Nov. 28th, 2025|11:09 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Current Mood |good]
[Current Music |Tyrannosaurus Rex - Unicorn (1969)]

1. What were some of the smells and tastes of your childhood?
There was a very distinct smell at my Montessori nursery school. I associate it with the smell of that tacky putty stuff that you'd use to put posters up. It was bluish in color.

As far as tastes, ice cream cone cupcakes come to mind. I think of them as very 80s, and I'm pretty sure my mom made these for my second or third birthday party.

2. What did you have as a child that you do not think children today have?
Freedom from the influence of social media! I do not envy Gen Alpha. Shit's getting dark.

3. What elementary grade was your favorite?
It's hard to say, as I've always had a hard time in school... I can easily name the worst year I had in elemenrary school though – 5th grade (age 10-11)!

4. What Summer do you remember the best as a child?
The couple of Summers I spent at my dad's. I played a lot of PC games! My favorites were Lemmings games.

5. What one piece of advice would you give to your younger self, and at what age?
Deep question... The first thing that comes to mind is, "Accept yourself." Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

None of them, please! I generally hate reboots.

4. What show have you always hated, and wonder why they ever made such a dumb show?
There are plenty of dumb TV shows, but the first one that comes to mind is Two and a Half Men; I don't know why. But it fits the bill!

5. What TV show's seasons would you buy on DVD?
Anything! I like owning physical media.

Guitar [Nov. 13th, 2025|08:29 pm]

[Current Music |body cams YouTube β–Ά]

For the last two nights, I've been playing guitar. It's been ages! I guess I'm rusty? I've always sucked, so I honestly can't tell, haha. I played a lot of old favorites (T. Rex, Nirvana, etc.) and added a few songs to my repertoire:

  1. "Gonna Leave You" - Queens of the Stone Age
This video of Nick Oliveri helped me learn. Fun song. The line, "This is the end. No more pictures, we ain't friends" reminded me of someone from my past (see my post from earlier [friends-only]).

  2. "Beware of Darkness" - George Harrison
I love George! I think this is my favorite song of his. It's got some cool chords.

  3. "Californication" - Red Hot Chili Peppers*
I can now play the solo somewhat well, which was the reason I wanted to learn it in the first place. I can play the main riff, but not up to speed with accuracy.

*I know it hasn't been considered ~hip~ to like the Chili Peppers in a long time, but I don't give a single fuck. They've got some good tunes, and the "Californication" solo is so much fun to play!

1. What’s harder to live without, chocolate or alcohol?
Chocolate, no question (I'm a recovering chocoholic)!

2. Does the colour yellow remind you of anything?
Pee – jk. Yellow reminds me of daffodils (my favorite!), and SpongeBob.

3. Who most annoyed you last week?
I don't know, maybe some random loser on the internet? No one IRL.

4. Do you have a cutesy romantic nickname for your partner (or previous partners)?
His name + "-o," inspired by the Pee-wee's Playhouse episode, "The Gang's All Here" (S1E12) :πŸž„)

5. What is your favourite Stephen King movie?
I don't generally go for scary movies, but It (1990) was pretty good. I haven't seen all of them though.

Pulp at Red Rocks [Sep. 26th, 2025|03:38 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Current Mood |hungry]

I've come here to DW quite a few times since I last wrote, but I always end up closing the tab because I get terrible (journal) writer's block. I get overwhelmed, and don't know what to write/where to start...

I'll start in Colorado!

I got to see Pulp perform at Red Rocks! It was amazing! It rained for about 75% of the show, so that was interesting (I'd never been to an outdoor show where it rained!)... But I had a blast! The band was tight, the sound was incredible, people were dancing (even me)!

The cold and rain were the only downside... Oh yeah, and the stairs! Oh my gosh, the stairs! So many damn steps! I was huffing and puffing by the time I got to my seat. And then there was the walk back to the car, which was ever harder! Time for me to get in shape...

Here are some photos from that night:

Wowee! Tomorrow's the big day!

Last night, I was watching some '90s/'00s Christmas cartoons on YouTube, and one of them was Pepper Ann! I have fond memories of this show and relate to this particular episode, where Pepper Ann feels torn between Christmas and Hanukkah, like she has to choose one or the other.

Shit, man. I've been sitting here typing for a while now. It's getting late, and I am not a morning person!

Shmups & Puzzle Games [Dec. 18th, 2024|12:57 pm]

[Current Mood |cold]
[Current Music |Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles]

Here are a couple of games I've been enjoying lately:

  1. Gunbird 2 seemed intimidating, so I hesitated when my dude wanted me to try it. Generally, I'm not too fond of shoot 'em ups and hectic games with lots of objects on screen. But it was so much fun! And I didn't do too badly (though I was on "baby" mode, LOL).

Since I was playing on a Sega Dreamcast, I could choose the "?" option upon character selection for a randomized surprise. I got the bonus character, Morrigan, on my first try! What luck! I love her. ♥

  2. Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo seemed like more my style, especially having played a similar game, Puyo Puyo 2 many times. It's a fun lil' puzzle game with Capcom characters (including Morrigan!). I like to play as Sakura, though.

Maybe I'll try to "come out of my shell" a bit in my next entry... Crazier things have happened.

Elliott Smith [Sep. 8th, 2024|09:26 pm]

[Current Music |American Movie (1999)]
[Current Mood |grateful]

IMPORTANT! The audio quality improves after the first minute or so!

I watched this earlier today, and it was so good, it'd be selfish not to share it. It's Elliott Smith live, solo acoustic, at his absolute PEAK! The set list is great, every song is fire! His singing and playing are on fucking point! It's perfect. I love his response when he's taking requests and someone shouts out "Wonderwall!" (he says, "Please." LOL!)

It honestly put tears in my eyes because like, damn... He was the best songwriter of our time, and he was gone way too soon. I'll never forget the day I woke up to the news. It was the celebrity death that shook me up the most. The timing, the circumstances, his young age. And my young age.

I had the pleasure of meeting him and shaking his hand in 2001. I wasn't old enough to get into the show (though I had seen him perform before, when he played an all-ages show), but my sister was going, and we'd seen him play together once before. Anyway, he was a mensch. And I still have his autograph.

I watched a Sailor Moon episode today... S1E8 where Usagi meets Ami and discovers that she's Sailor Mercury. It's such a cute, funny show. There's so much to love about it. I love the characters, the pretty (watercolor?) backgrounds, the weird villains, all of it!

FYI, it's FREE on Amazon Prime, and you don't have to have a Prime subscription!

[Current Music |System of a Down - Mezmerize (2005)]

Yesterday it was in the over 100° during the day and then last night was the most intense thunderstorm I have ever witnessed! storm cloud I had to unplug my computer and other important electronics because the lightning seemed to be striking close by. Coming from the Midwest, I've seen a helluva lot of storms, but this was something else!

Today, it's much milder in temperature. It's just a chill, rainy day, kinda gloomy and I dig it so much! This is the kind of weather I like. It's such a nice change from the obnoxious sun! I mean, it was scorchingly hot yesterday! I hate summer, but today is so nice that I can actually have the windows open!

I know I'm five days late posting this, BUT:

The Super Bowl! In past years, I couldn't have cared less about it, but this year they aired it on Nickelodeon with Spongebob Squarepants (Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (Bill ____??) doing live commentary! It was hilarious! It was the first time I've ever actually enjoyed a football game. They kept showing "celebrities" in the audience, but they were like, fish versions of the celebs with punny names. It was really funny! And there was lots of slime, of course!

The halftime show was great too! Usher is such a talented performer with so many hits! I was thinking about the early days of his career and the other popular artists around that time, and it occurred to me - he is way more talented than Justin Timberlake! Probably more talented than all five members of NSYNC combined, haha! Anyway, the medley was great and I was groovin'... Rollerskates!!

New Release x2 [Sep. 3rd, 2023|01:33 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[Current Mood |tired]

I watched two new releases on the same day! I feel a weird sense of accomplishment about it, LOL.

  1. I watched You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah with my mom. Adam Sandler and his family (wife and two daughters) are in it and it mostly centers around his younger daughter, who's turning 13. Sarah Sherman plays a Hebrew school teacher and I thought her wacky sense of humor added a lot! Overall, it was worth watching, but I wouldn't watch it again. Check it out on Netflix if you want.

  2. Todd Barry: Domestic Shorthair, I watched with J later that day. Now this was more my speed! I was howling with laughter at points! Todd Barry is so fucking funny. He has a great comedy style, a sort of dry sense of humor that I love. It's free on YouTube, it's less than an hour, and you're guaranteed a giggle, so check it out:

Ramble On [Aug. 2nd, 2023|03:32 pm]

[Current Mood |busy]

A draft from the other night:

I'm watching Big Top Pee-wee in honor of Paul Reubens. It's not nearly as watchable as Pee-wee's Big Adventure, but it's a comfort movie for me, and hey it's free to watch (Amazon Prime).

Paul Reubens... What a loss. Like many other folks my age, I grew up watching Pee-wee - especially Pee-wee's Playhouse. He had a big impact on me. He was like a light in a dark world. It may sound corny, but it's absolutely true.

I actually made a Pee-wee Herman character the last time I was playing around with The Sims 4. It was kinda funny, hehe... For the record, I found I actually hate Sims 4, and much prefer the earlier versions of the game! Maybe I should play Sims 1 again, or maybe Sims 2...

Speaking of gaming, I finally got my copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf to work again! I actually bought another copy of it just the other day! But I finally tried a factory reset on my 2DS and now it works! I'd been thinking it was a faulty cartridge the whole time, don't know why I didn't think to reset it!

I'm almost a year into making my town, Toot!

Also been having fun with some even older video games, but that's for another time! GTG

Great Day! [Jun. 17th, 2023|04:00 am]

[Current Mood |delighted]
[Current Music |Queens of the Stone Age (from earlier)]

Today has been a really, really great day! I went out for Vietnamese food (my favorite!) with my mom and popped into a nearby record store (if you're a mutual, you know the one), where I picked up the new Queens of the Stone Age album, In Times New Roman... (color: green) and OMG it was everything I hoped it would be and more! So nice I spun it twice thrice!

I would have loved to have gotten to play it even once more, but it got late and our neighbors already don't like us, LOL.

Other than listening to that, I've been watching The Golden Girls and lots of The Simpsons. I've found that season 9 is when it really jumps the shark... But seasons 1-8 are fantastic!

Anyway, I gotta get to bed, it's nearly 4am.

Who Am I? [May. 27th, 2023|06:17 pm]

[Current Music |Antiques Roadshow πŸ“Ί]

I'm having those weird feelings where I'm like, Who even am I? I can't really explain much further, I'm not that articulate. It isn't causing me emotional pain, so it's fine. I guess I feel like I'm just starting to discover who I really am. I guess that's just life though!

Makes me think of this quote:

β€œAging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.”

— David Bowie

Unrelated (or maybe not actually): I just started reading the bible online. Someone I admire (who shall remain nameless) said, "You don't have to be religious to benefit from the wisdom of the Bible." And that just seemed like such a valid point. I started reading the ESV version. Genesis 1-3 ✓

This is pretty personal, but I'll make it public anyway because I'm feeling saucy! 😏
