Jan. 23rd, 2009 10:31 amHas anyone seen any JLU or comics inspired friends only banners? Not for this account, I'm putting another one over on Insanejournal. I looked through
jlicons &
jl_fic and I'm not finding much. And wading into
comicbook_icons without a life preserver is a little scary. A zillion entries and no tags!
Random discovery: There are no pictures of me with Wonder Woman stuff growing up. No dolls or costumes or anything. This surprised even my mother. A little depressing to think what parts of my childhood are merely memories now, because the physical stuff has been given away or just gone.

Dark Knights and Wolverines
Jul. 8th, 2008 09:27 amNew Wolverine promo image: As someone on my flist said, it's nice that we get Hugh Jackman all ripped and arrr, but it'd be kinda nice to see some stills of the other characters.
dcau_rewatch: Comm for rewatching DC Animated series. Poll is now deciding where we'll start.
Project Rooftop has the finalists for the Superman: Man of Style contest. Some are neat and others leave me scratching my head.
The History Channel has scheduled Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of the Dark Knight for July 16th which sounds it'll be a bunch of psychiatrists sitting around talking about Bats' issues. I'm more interested in the history of the character than his psychoses, so we'll see.
Are any DC types planning a Dark Knight get together? Hopefully an improvement movie wise from X-men 3: Last Stand, yes?

Animated first look?
Jul. 3rd, 2008 01:16 pmThe Trades has the first look at the Wonder Woman artwork for the DTV. (You'll have to scroll down past the "Gotham Knight" review.) Unsure whether this is her final approved look or just a rough one, but I'm not wild about her face or hair. After JLU and New Frontier, this feels like a major step down. We'll have to wait and see.
As an aside, I never realized how many people disliked the DCAU/Timmverse until I hung around the DC message boards. And boy do the WW fans hate her portrayal for some of the reasons I liked her, including her relationship with Batman. I didn't like the changes to her origin, which some of them liked, so maybe I should take it with a major grain of refined salt.
And for the gaming geeks, the DCUO Myspace page has some concept artwork for the upcoming Sony game. Jim Lee's heavily involved in the artwork. A lot of female characters shown up front which is kinda nice.

CIF RAEPPA!
Feb. 22nd, 2008 08:26 pmSorry, having a Zatanna moment. Blame a weird iconset I'm working on. (Don't ask me about the source material. I'm understanding about your tv habits, yes?)
I have this tendency to flail over something and then it magically appears when I've stopped flailing. Maybe because it's that time of year, but the ancient taxfic idea is nagging me. I know I scribbled down a snippet, even came across it in my cleaning attempts. But was it on a solitary scrap of paper or in some notebook? Checking my files, it doesn't appear to have made the leap from paper to computer. Don't you hate it when that happens? I'll just have to keep digging.

Sorry, I needed that. At some point, I missed an issue of Darwyn Cooke's Spirit. So I muttered prayers to the comic gods and wrote it down in my want list. If all else failed, I'd wait until the trade went to paperback. So what did I forget when I went to Big Planet today? The list of course. And yet my whacky memory was intact, because I went through the back issues and picked out the ones I was missing, even that one.
I even have WW #16 on the day of release. How's that for miracles?
On a random front, seeing the scans of the end of "Four Horseman" with the dinner party amuses me no end. Because one of my fanfic ideas is exactly that -- the JLU Trinity regrouping after Cadmus & "Doomsday Sanction" over dinner. Need to get back to writing at some point.

Fic writing & Bones comment
Nov. 14th, 2007 02:27 pmBones comment: I felt so old watching the "I love the 80s" case. Just saying. Are some of those characters old enough to even remember the 80s?
Just pick something
Sep. 19th, 2007 02:14 pmI have a boatload of would-be JLU related stories I would like to write, but no idea where to start. "Just pick something" usually works fine for me. With JLU, it freezes me dead in my tracks. I have no idea why, aside from the fact I haven't watched all the Batman or Superman animated series. I've actually been tempted to turn one of the epic AUs into this year's Nano and if no original fic are coming to mind I still may!
Since the poll creator isn't working right now (Screwy error message, I've asked support), I'm listing all the WIPs, but I'm only giving very short keywords/descriptions. Partly because I don't want to get into heavy explanations and then get uninspired. And partly because I'm just Evil. (Think Flash-Lex in "Great Brain Robbery") Certain RL friends can stop snickering right now, especially Havoc.
( A peek inside my currently JL animated obsessed brain )
So what intrigues people? What scares people? And please don't say everything! I'm having a hard enough time with these stories running through my head.
Those of you with multiple WIPs/ideas/etc how do you approach this? How do you decide? Do you just write whatever scenes pops up first?

Fic recs and two JLU icons
Jul. 17th, 2007 12:17 pmFor Pretender fans,
butterflykiki is posting a six part "Five Ways Miss Parker and Jarod Didn’t Meet (and One That Can’t Be Disproved)". The first two parts: "Meet Cute" and Tommy Girl. I do miss snarky Miss Parker. She could have been such a one note ice queen, but Andrea Parker really made her vulnerable and sometimes sympathetic, but not always.
I offered up a comicsverse X-men Jean/Emma prompt for
innumerablehues using a quote from William Blake's "Tyger Tyger" because the quote reminded me of The Phoenix.
sionnain produced the stunningly gorgeous "Burnt the Fire". The Blake quotes worked even better than I realized. I was strongly reminded of their interactions in Morrison's "New X-men" particularly.
I was playing around with
space_graphics's textures and tutorials and came up with these two Bruce/Diana icons from "Maid of Honor". Credit if you use them. I'm hoping to do a few more so I have a real JLU Bats/WW icon to use. I'm not quite sure the resizing worked, but they're not bad.

Superman Doomsday
Jul. 9th, 2007 02:03 pmOfficial site for the new animated DTV "Superman Doomsday". They include trailer, pics and cast info. Their Myspace account also includes an additional Sizzle piece describing the background & making of. Hard to gauge by the trailer, but I'm torn. I've finally gotten used to the JLU animated Superman. But I can see why they'd want to make this version rougher and tougher. And the character design for Lois is so rail thin and slight, not what I associate with the Miss Lane. The dvd also includes a sneak peek at the "Justice League: New Frontier" DTV which I'm more curious about, especially after hearing Lucy Lawless was cast as Wonder Woman. For that version of Diana, oh hell yeah!
To my JLU friends: didn't someone write a Batman/WW piece that featured him showing her the invisible jet for the first time? I can't for the life of me remember the title or author. Funny to realize there was supposed to be a DTV to bridge the JL & JLU phases that would actually explain its origins, although "The Man Who Had Everything" sequence was a good intro.

Justice League second season comments
Jul. 1st, 2007 05:53 pmI did eventually wind up liking season two of "Justice League", but it started off surprisingly slow. The stories weren't as simplistic, but they were still having trouble drawing me in. The characterizations and interactions had also intensified. Wonder Woman was much better this season. I don't know whether the actress changed her voice or just her approach and I much preferred the season 2 Diana to season 1.

I had a doctor appointment downtown and decided to take a quick zog through the nearby Borders. Hey, I've been a good girl most of this month, so I think I'm due for a little fun. So I picked up copies of the Huntress trade and the Showcase: Hawkman volume. It'll be nice to reread some of old Helena Wayne stories, especially in conjunction with the Justice Society volumes. If your only experience with older Bats is from "Batman Beyond", the older Earth-2 Police Commissioner Bruce Wayne is a bit different. Bruce has always been a more than a little unstable, but he seemed more so in these stories. I wonder if they'll reprint "America vs JSA" mini which took that storyline to the ultimate level. I hadn't picked up a Showcase volume before, but I couldn't pass up the Silver Age Hawks. I'm still debating the Legion volume and maybe a few others. God knows the Essentials X-men books were good for catching up with older storylines.
I glanced through Louise Simonson's new book DC Covergirls. The only major minus was the Adam Hughes' introduction. I understand why he was the logical choice, but his repeated "like it or not, sex sells" attitude in a book about female comic book characters smacked me the wrong way. And I've never had issues with his art before per se. I don't even remember having issues with previous interviews before now. Some of the newer artwork in the book was a little jarring, but it was good to see Lois, Diana, Selina, Kara, and Barbara along with Stephanie, Cass, and Courtney.
Rewatching "Justice League" continues apace. Unfortunately it's setting off Bats/WW bunnies with ancillary Trinity and/or Lois/Clark ones. Horribly unfair of my muses to strike that way. One of them I could even research here in DC, but I'll have to wait until I'm feeling better before I go sightseeing.

Justice League season 1 set
Jun. 25th, 2007 12:51 amI'm rewatching more Justice League, starting with season 1. I've mostly recorded my reactions in an older post, so mostly the comments are limited to the special features in this set.

Justice League Unlimited last season
Jun. 11th, 2007 07:47 pmBeing home sick is the pits. I would desperately trade my old throat in if I could. But cartoons will make it all better, right? So I dug out my Justice League dvd sets. For different reasons, I had never had a chance to watch the last season. And while it's still miles better than some of the stuff out there, especially the DC oriented stuff, there are episodes that are... problematic to say the least.

Survey says
Feb. 21st, 2007 01:47 amWell, it does pay to have a weird memory. I was sure I'd seen the Justice League meeting room at the end of the Cadmus saga. It's a little odd seeing Question bounding around the Watchtower, all things considered.
Mostly for my own research:
Circular table with very straight backed chairs
Better view of chairs
"Always wondered what was in here. A private conference room. Original members only, yes? A place where you're free to discuss your secrets and lies?" -- The Question "Question Authority"
It will make sense eventually. Promise.

Blood Ties again & challenges
Feb. 20th, 2007 11:57 pmLonger preview of "Blood Ties" series available on the Lifetime channel.
Eight days left for the
picfor1000 challenge and I'm flat out stumped on how to approach this. I know I don't have to use the picture literally. I tried the obvious bunny, but sometimes the bunnies just don't want to hop for me. I'll think of something eventually. I'm tempted to use it in a more general metaphorical sense.
Theoretically I've picked out someone for
classicicontest's latest challenge. Definitely not an obvious choice, although
jordannamorgan might recognize her. If my iconning muses can please come out of the same closet my writing muse is hiding in.
I do anticipate rewatching a lot of Justice League this week. "Maid of Honor" is still a favorite episode and the "Better World" verse still scares the heck out of me. Ah, Bruce, I'd forgotten what that voice does for me... I also need to finally watch the "World's Finest" movie to see how the animated Superman & Batman first meeting went. And see if I can get a better handle on Lois. I know there's a way to rewrite this bloody story. I think I need to ditch the beginning.

Justice League animated help?
Feb. 20th, 2007 02:34 pmRandom animated Justice League question: does anyone remember what the meeting room table looked like for the big 7? Circular/square/equilateral? I remember the JSA one is a big round one. And was the Justice Lords meeting room different looking? I really need to sit down and rewatch those dvds tonight.
Oh, and make the Clark & Bruce sniping go away, please? When I labelled the file "jealousclark", that was not what I meant!

Thank god it's Friday
Jul. 28th, 2006 07:20 pmSo an assorted update on things SGA before Sci Fi Friday:
I managed to place second in
sf_incandescent's SG-1 Gateroom challenge, using a cap from "Avalon" part 1. I was pleased and surprised by this placing. The cap was a lot harder to work with than I initially realized. I tried to find a clearer/closer shot from that scene, but I couldn't make it work. Glad I took the chance and entered the icon. Sometimes the self-critic needs to be tested.

In another amusing development, I discovered a post on writing obscure/odd pairings on
thecuttingboard using some McKay/Novak drabbles as examples, including my own entry! Reading the critique, I unfortunately found myself wanting to add a line or phrase of clarification. Or sequel. Hmm... I'd forgotten how hard it is to cram everything into 100 words. I recall needing several attempts to find an approach to that drabble. In answer to the question, I need to find a hook or commonality, something that connects the two characters. No doubt McKay has had to listen to his share of well meaning advice for his allergies and hypoglycemia... but really, he probably just thought the sooner her hiccups went away, the less he'd be distracted... or something.
aella_irene took the pairing a little further in her "Fear" showing a future Atlantis and her children.
I had a weird crossover show up in my head. I was reminded of the Justice League two parter "In Blackest Night" recently. I pictured the Guardians of Oa showing up in Atlantis after the events of "Trinity" to have a little chat with Dr. McKay about that 5/6th of a solar system he wiped out. Of course, unlike John Stewart, McKay was actually guilty, so I'm not sure exactly how he'd get out of it. I could even see Weir trying to be his lawyer. That's assuming the Guardians would even concern themselves with either the Pegasus Galaxy or the actions of a non-Green Lantern? Although part of me would be amused at the comparisons between Hal Jordan and John Sheppard.

Justice League dvd news
Mar. 3rd, 2006 12:56 pmTwo news stories on TVShowsondvd.com have popped up about the Justice League season sets. The first story gives the initial release and cover for season 2 dvds. No extras are listed so far, but I'm sure that info will be released later. There's some initial alarm when the set is listed as a full frame release rather than widescreen, but the follow up tells us relax, the listing was in error, the set is still planned for widescreen, according to Timm anyway. Also some news on JLU's DVD release status. WB apparently is still planning to do two more single releases of "Justice League Unlimited" before they'll release the full season set.
Good news for Justice League fans. The second season is coming to dvd June 20th along with "Superman Animated Series" season three. They'll be released in their original widescreen aspect ratio.
The Czech matchmaker unfortunately will have to be cut from the piece. I need to finish the ending but I'm almost there. Will definitely need a second opinion.
Having a weird BSG moment seeing the Coca Cola "Oh, no, it's Apolo" ads. I know it's a different spelling, but...
GIP! Showing off
