🧑🎓 STUDENT VOICE | EDUVERSE ISSUE 28 Before John Cedrick Colesio entered a classroom as a future teacher, life had already taught him through farming, family sacrifice, financial hardship, leadership, and hope. In his student voice article, From Dust to Dreams: My Journey Toward Becoming a Teacher, John reflects on how these experiences shaped his identity as a learner and his purpose as an educator. He also calls for greater space for students to be heard: “Education should not only teach students what to think. 🌟 What if a classroom looks lively, but leaves little evidence of what students are actually thinking? In the latest Ask the Experts interview in EduVerse newsletter 28, Purposeful Learning: A New Way of Thinking About Student-Centeredness, Dr. Le Dinh Bao Quoc, Ed.D. invites educators to look beyond activity and task completion. Evidence of learning can appear in students’ questions, decisions, explanations, revisions, and reasons for changing direction. ✨ The conversation also considers AI’s place in learning: “AI should support learning, not substitute for it.” AI can explain ideas, generate examples, and offer feedback. 😍 We are delighted to celebrate and congratulate Stacy Kratochvil on the publication of her article, Who Gets to Decide in an AI-Powered World?, in EduVerse Issue 28. Through a revealing classroom moment, Stacy explores what can happen when AI moves beyond supporting students and quietly begins making decisions for them. After receiving AI feedback, one student announced that her work was finished because the tool said it was “perfect.” At that moment, the decision no longer belonged to the learner. Stacy invites educators to consider a simple but powerful question: ❓“Who gets to decide, and who gets to learn from that decision?” The article reminds us that student-centered learning requires more than participation or choice. ❓What if a learner’s keeps improving, but the learner gradually disappears inside it? In EduVerse Newsletter 28, Blanka Pawlak told a story of Luke, a capable professional whose English was accurate and carefully prepared.
