... otherwise I'd be a wee bit worried about Mr. Gillette!

The sequel to "Tómas". And it only took me three years to finish...

Rating: PG-13
Genre: humour, adventure, slash
Pairing: Norrington/Gillette
Other characters: Voltaire, Lord George (Seoirse) Cutler Beckett, cameos by Lt. Greitzer, Lt. Groves, Will Turner and Prince Frederick of Prussia.

Warnings: none
Feedback: Sure! Keep it coming!

Author's note: I always thought that "Tómas" was the weirdest story I've ever written. Well - I was wrong... "The Flying Scotsman" is a wacky fairytale, unlike anything I've written before. But I sure had a lot of fun writing it, trust me on that!

THE FLYING SCOTSMAN (chapters 1-18/18, complete)
Also available as *.pdf download!

Summary: Lieutenant Thomas Gillette is on a quest to find his captain. There is nothing that a leprechaun wouldn't do for his treasure, so all is not lost for James Norrington.

Voltaire patted Gillette's shoulder. "No need to despair; I'm very certain we'll find your captain. History is full of stories where lovers find their way to happiness despite misfortune and obstacles and annoying cousins. Just think of Romeo and Juliet!"

Gillette gave him a sidewise glance. "They died."

"Now did they?" Voltaire scratched his head. "My apologies. I never managed to sit through one of Cousin William's plays to the end."

The following merchandise for PotC: OST has landed on my desk. It’s a stickerbook:

It came with the information that “Officer Gilette” (sic) had also made it into the book. And indeed:

Great news! Lt. Gillette on the lid would give my laptop at work a little more credibility than the “I can haz brainz?” zombie sticker that it’s currently sporting, though one could argue that it’s perfectly fitting for our meetings.

Obviously, much care and consideration has gone into the production of this... )
I guess the stickerbook was put together by the same professionals responsible for this masterpiece:

Anyway. If you’d like to buy this spectacular piece of movie memorabilia, you can do so here. Or you’ll just wait for our traditional Yuletide Contest and hope that you’ll win this beauty, among other lovely things.

Hah! This interview has perfect timing - it's Wank Week, after all!

Greg Ellis, aka Lt. Groves in the PotC movies, has given an interview to Jim Hill, which is now available online. He talks about his work on “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” with Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kevin McNally and Damian O’Hare, and ponders the possibility of Groves’ return in PotC 5 (working title: “Pirates of the Caribbean: Zombies in Uniform”). You can find the interview here:

GREG ELLIS WONDERS IF HIS “PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN” CHARACTER WILL BE RETURNING FOR THE FIFTH FILM IN THIS SERIES

Here’s a small excerpt from the interview:
“And at one point, there was a semi-serious discussion among the actors that we should just keep going. Just sail on in to Mexico and then see how the locals would react as all these pirates and Royal Naval Officers came up on shore.”
I can’t help but feel that an escape of Gillette and Groves to Mexico would have made for a far better movie.

As Gillette spends most of his time in the company of Groves, dedicated Grovites will hopefully also find some screencaps they like.

POTC: OST GALLERY

When the movie came out, eagle-eyed fans spotted that Groves, seemingly injured and not dead, was carried away by his fellow men. Capping through the mess of that movie, I noticed that Gillette was carried away as well. Both Groves and Gillette moved, so this was either a small blunder, or they'll return from the dead in one of the next 209503892 sequels. Poor lads. Couldn't somebody offer them a job in a future M &C sequel...?

vanilla_elf: (NORRINGTON so much love)
An interesting "behind-the-scenes" interview with the nice Greg Ellis who talks about the role of nice Mr. Groves in a nice movie. :-P Nice Damian O'Hare is mentioned, that's how I found it. :-)

"Is Lieutenant Commander Groves taking over from Jack Davenport’s Norrington character in the previous films?"

(You may guess the answer!)

Groves is a man who serves king and country first, he has some ethical scruples and a deep yearning for adventure on the ocean waves, but I think somewhere inside, he longs to experience life as a pirate. If there was a competition on board for a weekend as a pirate, Groves would be desperate to win. He has an admiration and respect for Jack Sparrow [Johnny Depp’s character]. I think that annoys his superiors. I know it annoyed Norrington in the first and the third.

Screencaps from that scene all look like Diesel ads...

DEAD MAN WALKING

Summary: Between a rock and a hard place, Gillette and Groves find themselves at the mercy of a mermaid.

vanilla_elf: (GILLETTE specsavers)
Geoffrey Rush was a guest on Craig Ferguson's talk show, and they showed a snipped from PotC 4 - a treat for all fans of Barbossa (being all admiral-y and motivational!) and Mr. Groves, but Mr. Gillette is also there, looking mightily miffed in the background!

vanilla_elf: (GILLETTE specsavers)
New official promo pictures have surfaced (click here and scroll down to see assorted pirates and mermaids).

Poor Gillette still doesn’t have a first name. I hope he'll forgive me, but I quite fine with him never getting one. He'll always be Thomas to me, and I'd refuse to rewrite all my stories to call him Gervase, Montague or Wilkinson, anyway.

British Royals and La Armada Espaola )

Very dashing, those Spanish gentlemen!

vanilla_elf: (Default)
Brand new official trailer - now with more mermaids, more zombies, a topless missionary and

two confused officers )

And I finally got a new Gillette-icon. Huzzah!

vanilla_elf: (GILLETTE my fandom loves redheads)
So what are the gentlemen of the navy up to in PotC 4?

B + G + G = OMG )

This "team" promises to be hilarious (that, or the stuff nightmares are made of, but at the moment, I'm still in the "hilarious" camp).
vanilla_elf: (LONGITUDE gingerism)
There's a short video available now with "behind the scenes" footage - of special interest to those of us who love the navy boys. While it's good to see Gillette and Groves back (and wearing the blues again), I have to wonder...

... if there are more officers than tars, will Gillette and Groves have to do the cooking? )

I'm hopeful that we'll get action figures of Gillette and Groves this time. Various sets have been announced, more than for the last movies, and I'd be very surprised if the two shouldn't be included in one.

OT: the cats are well again (even Emma, the old bat!), so I'll try to catch up with comments and posts now.

vanilla_elf: (GILLETTE my fandom loves redheads)
The first official trailer for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is now online, and huzzah, our dear lieutenant is in it! The other dear lieutenant as well; actually, Mr. Gillette and Mr. Groves got themselves new wigs since the first movie. And a new captain. James Norrington, wherever you are: NOW would be the perfect moment for your return!

I was happy to see the stats for Ambarussa going through the roof, though. Googling for Gillette! :-)

SPOILERS AND BAD COMPANY )

And for the Garrowians (Garrowettes? Garrowites?) among us:

Run, Jack, run! )

vanilla_elf: (DAMO oh behave)
While I sit here waiting for the results of "Spray-on Snow Frost" on the windows of my living room (so far, it looks like they were covered in hairspray, but I haven't given up hope yet), I might as well remind you that

the deadline for the

YULETIDE CONTEST

is 30th November, 2010, midnight GMT.

You still have the chance to win an original autograph of Damian O'Hare and a selection of chocolate.

Just click the link above for information.

Good luck!

vanilla_elf: (GILLETTE my fandom loves redheads)
A fourth picture of Damian O'Hare on the set of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" in Hawaii has surfaced. Looks like it's from the series that has previously been posted here.

You can also see the back of Groves and a couple of tars - and a boat! Navy picture all the way...

Readers, beware - thar shall be spoilers! )

And don't forget the Yuletide Contest - you can win Damian O'Hare's autograph!

vanilla_elf: (Default)
First pictures of the Royal Navy in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"!

Uniforms, more uniforms, even more uniforms, and an amazing ship.
Oh, and Damian O'Hare.

POTC 4: SHIPS AND NAVY

( Source )

My main interest here is the ship, though. She's called HMS Providence, but isn't that our dear Surprise in disguise?! M + C aficionados, help me out here...
