My friend Olya laughs at me (affectionately) for making things. Mom always had, always has, hand work to do at night, on trips, when sitting in front of the TV. I can't write here, so I've been making things instead.
My sister, with all the other on-staff teachers in her high school, has to administer an extracurricular club for students, during the lunch hour (the location of the school makes it too hazardous for the kids to stay after school). She and the art teacher are offering arts & crafts, with an emphasis on recycling materials. She also received a small grant to promote recycling; last semester, her students made things to sell at a local crafts fair and were amazed to make money doing so.
One of the projects we're testing is making sock dolls. (Note: making sock dolls from used socks doesn't work unless the socks were brand new when sockicide was committed. However, dog toys from ratty old socks, while less attractive, are popular with the animal crowd.)
These are a few I've made so far. Pictures were taken with my cell phone, so they're a bit fuzzy. Occasional dog included for scale -- SMALL DOGS.
ETA: Oh, hell. Someone else created the same doll I made with the ladybug socks and posted it online (different ears and face). And I thought it was so unusual when I made it.
( cute )
