AI in insurance is moving beyond data extraction and workflow support into something far more transformative. The next wave of agentic AI will bring specialised capabilities across underwriting, reserving, pricing and portfolio management, helping organisations make better, faster and more connected decisions. As Magdalena Ramada Sarasola, PhD and Matthew Lambert discuss, the real differentiator will not be the tools themselves, but how insurers embed expertise, orchestrate human and AI decision-making, and scale what works. The game of insurance remains the same. The opportunity lies in reimagining how it is played. WTW Insurance Consulting and Technology reposted this
Longevity risk remains a critical consideration for insurers participating in the U.S. pension risk transfer market. WTW’s Geospatial Mortality Model (GMM) is now available to insurers and reinsurers, bringing enhanced predictive capabilities to support pension risk transfer pricing, strengthen asset-liability management and improve visibility into longevity risk. “By making this proven model available to the insurance community, we’re giving PRT writers a powerful new way to sharpen pricing, enhance longevity risk management and compete with greater confidence,” said Karen Grote, Managing Director and North American Life Division Leader at WTW Insurance Consulting and Technology. GMM produces more flexible mortality assumptions by harnessing the predictive power of both pension and geographic data, incorporating socioeconomic and health-related factors alongside participant-specific pension data that have been shown to be strongly predictive of life expectancy. The Solvency II review is reshaping how insurers approach the Dynamic Volatility Adjustment (DVA). Are your models ready for what's next? The introduction of the Credit Spread Sensitivity Ratio (CSSR) and the Enhanced Prudence Principle (EPP) in the revised Solvency II Directive (Article 122(5)) adds significant complexity to the internal models used by European insurers and insurance groups. This creates a range of financial, operational and strategic challenges, including: • Increased SCR modelling complexity, putting pressure on financial reporting processes and timelines. • Greater methodological constraints resulting from closer alignment with EIOPA's VA framework. • New governance, validation and ongoing monitoring requirements. • Broader implications for risk management, asset allocation and investment strategy. WTW’s latest survey of Dynamic VA users shows that insurers recognise the significance of these changes. Many are now working through key methodological questions and assessing how best to embed the new requirements into their day-to-day processes. Successfully integrating the updated framework into risk and investment decision-making, including asset management optimisation, will be a key focus area for the industry in the coming years. As implementation progresses, insurers will need to balance regulatory expectations with practical considerations around model design, governance and operational efficiency. If you’d like to discuss the implications for your organisation, please contact Aleksander Rejman, Pieter van den Hoek or your local WTW contact. #WTW #SolvencyII #DynamicVolatilityAdjustment #VolatilityAdjustment
