  • Direct Debit failures don't just bounce a payment. They start a churn sequence: retry delays, dunning emails, frustrated customers who quietly cancel... Bank on File fixes that: 🔍 Checks funds before payment, failures drop before they happen ⚡ Money moves in seconds, not days 💸 Instant confirmation, no retry cycles, no compounding fees When a payment is due, it goes through, and the customer experience stays intact. • Over the past two weeks, TrueLayer has had the pleasure of welcoming 12 incredible students as part of their Intrainship summer work experience programme. 🪴 Rather than shadowing from the sidelines, the interns were given a real business challenge: 🧑💻 Work in teams to carry out research 🎤  Interview colleagues from across the business, challenging the status quo 🧑🏫  Present their recommendations to a panel of leaders, including Robert Kerrigan and Mo Mirza. Their thinking, curiosity and presentation skills were genuinely impressive. Our Workplace & Talent Director, Lucy Warwick, said: "We spend a lot of time thinking about how we attract great talent to TrueLayer, but it's just as important that we're helping to widen access to our industry for young people who may not otherwise have these opportunities. Watching the students' confidence grow, and hearing them talk about careers they hadn't previously considered is exactly why programmes like this matter.” As Rafeeq, one of the students, reflected: "A huge thank you to everyone at TrueLayer for making what I expected to be an intimidating experience into one that has been exciting, welcoming and genuinely inspiring. I'm looking forward to applying everything I've learned as I continue exploring finance and fintech." The team at Intrainship are opening doors for the next generation of talent. We can’t wait to see what these 12 talented young people go on to achieve.

  • 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽: 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🇮🇹 Last week, we opened our doors to the Milan Claude Meetup community for an evening dedicated to Claude Code in action. Andrea Di Lisio, our Senior Software Engineer, walked through how the TrueLayer Engineering team turns technical knowledge into reusable skills for Claude Code, making it easier for engineers to share expertise and build faster. Pasquale Morelli, our Senior Brand Designer, showed how Claude has changed the way we generate brand visuals and digital products. Thank you to everyone who joined, and to Andrea and Pasquale for sharing how they actually use Claude Code to build the future of payments. A special thanks to Alexio Cassani for hosting and organising such a great community. More community events like this to come!

  • TrueLayer has been selected for the Financial Conduct Authority's Supercharged Sandbox, one of 21 firms chosen from a record 199 applications. The Supercharged Sandbox, supported by Anthropic, has a particular focus on agentic payments. During the programme, TrueLayer will test how AI agents can initiate and complete Pay by Bank payments securely on behalf of consumers. "Agentic commerce is the next major shift in how people pay," says Francesco Simoneschi, CEO and co-founder of TrueLayer. "For that to become a reality, agents need a payment method built for instant, secure, API native transactions. That makes Pay by Bank the natural fit." TrueLayer already has a working agentic prototype: an AI shopping agent completing Pay by Bank transactions, human in the loop, alongside Bank on File for recurring purchases. • As AI agents begin making purchases on our behalf, one question will shape the future of digital commerce: which payment method will they use? Today, cards are on track to become the default. Visa has launched Agentic Ready. Mastercard has introduced Agent Pay, already live in APAC. But it doesn't have to be that way. The UK has a unique opportunity to build a more competitive model for agentic payments from the outset, one where Pay by Bank is a core part of the ecosystem, rather than trying to compete after defaults have already been established. The foundations are already in place: 💷 Pay by Bank processes more than 40 million payments each month in the UK. 🛡️ Bank on File with its bank-enforced spending limits, designed for consumer control, can keep consumers safe even if their agent goes rogue  💡 Policymakers are increasingly focused on the opportunity, from the Mills Review to HM Treasury's consultation on modernising payment services, which explicitly considers the role of agentic payments. The window to shape the future is open, but not for long. Our UK Public Policy Lead, Megan Coulson, explores why policymakers, regulators and industry should act now to ensure agentic payments don't become card-native by default. • 🇮🇪 Ireland has just taken the helm of the EU Council Presidency. 13 years ago, when it last held the post, open banking didn't exist — and neither did TrueLayer. A lot has changed since then. Pay by Bank is live on the biggest ecommerce checkouts. SEPA Instant is rolling out across the continent. 400+ million Europeans now have access to a new generation of payment services. But two-thirds of European card payments still run on non-European networks. In some member states, it's over 90%. Our Ireland CEO Pamela Fegan lays out what Ireland should do with its tenure to best shape the next 13 years of payments in Europe, including: 💳 Competition: ensuring a level playing field where account-to-account payments can openly compete with traditional cards. 🇪🇺 Payment sovereignty: giving businesses genuine checkout choices like Pay by Bank to reduce reliance on non-EU networks 🔐 Resilience: moving away from single points of failure so a single network outage can't halt European commerce. England were 45 minutes into their World Cup group game against Ghana when the country's tills went quiet. Card payments failed nationwide, right at half-time. Pubs packed with fans found their terminals frozen mid-round. But one venue kept selling pints. Heaton Sports and Cricket Club told customers they could pay by bank transfer, and kept the bar open while bigger operators scrambled as people left their businesses to draw cash or go watch at home. The merchants that kept their taps flowing weren't the ones with the fanciest tech. They were the ones with a backup ready before they needed it.
