In his latest piece, David Martin Santidrian looks at why investors need to understand not just the asset, but the wider ecosystem around it. Has Egypt done enough to restore investor confidence in its energy sector? Egypt's clearance of its USD 6.1 billion debt to international oil companies marks an important step forwards. But whether recent reforms to payment mechanisms, domestic pricing and upstream investment terms are sufficient to prevent the debt cycle from re-emerging remains an open question. As regional geopolitical tensions continue to reshape energy markets, the answer will have significant implications for investors assessing opportunities in Egypt. In her latest insight, Alice Ede explores what these developments mean for the country’s energy sector and investment outlook. Effective cross border defence partnerships require more than technical capability South Korean defence manufacturers have become increasingly important partners for Europe. As cooperation expands beyond equipment sales into joint production, technology partnerships, and local supply chains, competitive advantage will depend on navigating complex industrial ecosystems as well as procurement processes. In her latest insight, Eva L. examines how Europe's evolving defence industrial strategy is reshaping cross-border defence partnerships, and why selecting the right partners, understanding local stakeholder dynamics and managing operational, regulatory and supply chain risks will be critical to long-term success. I am very pleased to have been asked to take on a part-time role as Senior Adviser by The Risk Advisory Group. The firm's website (riskadvisory.com) explains: We help the world's leading businesses open up new markets and opportunities and resolve the challenges they face along the way. I commented in a LinkedIn post recently that supporting British companies and helping them to succeed overseas has been a constant throughout my 30-year career as a diplomat, and before that as a solicitor in the City. In my new role I will be drawing on my international, business and legal experience to help Risk Advisory's clients think through and take well-informed decisions. In short, to help them thrive.

Our biggest takeaway from this week's ACI Forum on Cartels, TCOs & Compliance in Latin America: The compliance conversation has shifted from screening entities to understanding exposure. For businesses operating in high-risk markets, this means asking more searching questions of counterparties, suppliers and commercial relationships. Adopting a more holistic risk based approach that includes intelligence-led due diligence, enhanced third-party risk assessments and a deeper understanding of local operating environments are becoming essential components of effective compliance. We developed our FTO-Cartel Risk Tracker to help organisations identify where designated groups intersect with legitimate sectors, supply chains and commercial activity across Latin America, providing greater visibility into the risks that sit beyond the immediate counterparty. Explore the tracker: https://lnkd.in/esUtwZ-f A big thank you to the American Conference Institute, our fellow panellists, and everyone we had the opportunity to meet and exchange perspectives with throughout the event. #Compliance #FinancialCrime #DueDiligence #LatinAmerica #PoliticalRisk #RiskManagement

A Michelin star doesn’t make a restaurant good. It recognises that it already is. Professional services rankings such as Chambers work in much the same way. It’s perhaps an obvious point, but I’ve always thought that rankings reinforce rather than create a firm’s reputation. So, although we debate every year whether these are the best use of our precious marketing dollars, I’m reminded that one of my priorities on joining Risk Advisory was to ensure that the outstanding reputation of our team was matched by the profile and market presence it deserves. Congratulations to everyone at The Risk Advisory Group whose work continues to earn that recognition.

The latest US enforcement action against fuel smuggling networks linked to the CJNG reflects a broader regulatory shift. As regulators increasingly map the wider commercial networks that underpin cartel activity, the focus is moving beyond designated entities to the legitimate businesses, intermediaries, and financial channels that can enable illicit trade. For companies and investors, the challenge is evolving. It is no longer enough to ask “Is this counterparty sanctioned?” The more important question is: “does the commercial networks make sense?” In our latest analysis Rafaela Alford and Yuetong Z. explore why sanctions screening should be the starting point, and not the end point of effective due diligence. While Germany has not yet joined Mark Carney's proposed Defence, Security and Resilience Bank, announced at last week's NATO Summit in Ankara, defence spending and procurement remain at the top of Berlin's agenda. For investors and contractors, however, the real story lies beyond the budget. As Germany accelerates procurement, strengthens investment screening, and prioritises European defence capability, market access is increasingly being shaped by policy as much as commercial capability. In his latest analysis, Benjamin Schmale explores how Germany's evolving procurement framework is reshaping opportunities for investors and what businesses need to know to navigate Europe's largest defence market.
