Partnership working is absolutely critical to our work supporting residents. This week we met with Cllr Saied Ahmed, Karen Smith and Tracey St Hill from Tower Hamlets, one of our key strategic local authorities, to discuss how we can collaborate to tackle some of our biggest challenges together. During a site tour, we looked at the investment programme to improve our existing homes and how we are tackling the housing crisis through our development and regeneration programme. We also took the opportunity provide an update on our planned maintenance and major projects, estate management, community activity and improvements in repairs and resident communications. One area of focus was our work in making sure our customer’s voices are heard and help shape our key priorities. Through our customer influence and accountability framework, designed by customers, for customers we have recruited seven Tower Hamlets residents directly onto our customer engagement panels. "The climate and nature crisis isn't a future challenge. It's one we're already living through." Last week, more than 200 Riverside colleagues came together to watch The People's Emergency Briefing, a powerful and thought-provoking presentation bringing together the latest science on the climate and nature crisis. The briefing explored how climate change, biodiversity loss and increasing pressure on natural resources are already affecting our homes, communities, health and infrastructure. It challenged us to think beyond individual issues and recognise the wider systems at play and the role we can all play in creating positive change. What made the event especially valuable was the discussion that followed. Colleagues shared ideas, perspectives and practical actions, reflecting on how organisations like ours can respond, influence change and support more resilient communities. But this conversation isn't just for housing. It's a conversation for every business, public service, charity, industry and community. The science is clear. The solutions exist. The atmosphere was incredible, with colleagues coming together to enjoy great food, support an important cause and raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer. Every purchase and donation helps make a difference to children and young people facing cancer, along with their families. Last week, we celebrated the official opening of Harbour Place, our 107-home affordable housing and extra care development in Workington, Cumbria.   The opening ceremony brought together Harbour Place customers, staff, local officials and Riverside colleagues, with speeches from our Group Chief Executive, Paul Dolan, and Chief Care & Support Officer, John Glenton.   A notable highlight included the burying of a time capsule which contains official deeds for the site, architectural designs and photos of Workington. Guests also enjoyed a buffet and live music from a local DJ.   Open since February, Harbour Place is just a short walk from Workington Beach and offers a mix of affordable rent bungalows and extra care apartments for people aged 55 and over. Customers can also access 24/7 care, communal facilities and a varied programme of social activities.   With demand for specialist housing for older people continuing to grow, anyone interested in exploring life at one of Harbour Place’s remaining extra care apartments is encouraged to contact the team: harbourplace@riverside.org.uk

We are delighted to have supported Public Life's Citizen First model, which has today been shown to deliver £10.43 of social and economic value for every £1 invested during its first year.   Working in partnership with Public Life and more than 50 organisations, including Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Torus Foundation and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, we have provided funding through the Riverside Foundation to help nine aspiring entrepreneurs across the Liverpool City Region access the support, networks and funding they need to build their businesses.   The Citizen First model is built on a simple but powerful idea: the people closest to social challenges often have the best ideas to solve them – but the least ability to act.   Find out more by reading the Independent Evaluation Report published today by Brunel University of London and Northumbria University (link in comments).
