The aftermath of the wildfires across Ávila and Madrid. Wildfires across Ávila and the western reaches of Madrid have left a devastating mark on the region. As the smoke clears, Earth observation provides the clear, high-resolution data needed to assess the true impact on the ground. This false-colour image captured by our Hyper-500 satellite shows the full extent of the damage following the burn. The Government of the Balearic Islands and Open Cosmos celebrate the launch into orbit of Posidonia, the first Balearic satellite  A historic milestone for the archipelago! Developed, co-financed, and operated by Open Cosmos, Posidonia will strengthen the Balearic Islands' Earth observation capabilities to improve environmental and territorial management. The event held at ParcBit Auditorium brought together Marga Prohens, President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, and Rafel Jordà, founder and CEO of Open Cosmos, alongside key local partners including Wireless DNA, the University of the Balearic Islands, Garden Hotels, and the FEHM. Attendees also witnessed the delivery of the first image captured by the satellite to mark the start of its operational phase. “Posidonia is the demonstration that space can become a useful tool to respond to the daily challenges of territories and generate tangible benefits for citizens.” - Rafel Jorda Siquier, founder and CEO of Open Cosmos. Open Cosmos Atlantic signs with ESA to prime a new European initiative for Earth observation resilience. Potential contract worth €25M If implemented, it would be the first time a Portuguese company primes an ESA flagship mission. This Initiative will focus on delivering a Very-High Resolution satellite that cuts the time between capturing an image in orbit and getting it into users' hands on the ground by using inter-satellite links and AI processing in orbit. “With this project, Portugal takes a leading role in an emblematic European programme, which attests to the development of cutting-edge space technology on national soil, the sector's capacity to create employment, and places our country at the forefront of the European space sector.”, says Tiago Rebelo, Chief Revenue Officer of Open Cosmos. Starting with an initial €750k phase, the study will finish by Autumn with a final decision for implementation before the end of the year leading to a launch by end 2028.
