Waymo is learning to drive in London, and apparently it’s still learning which roads actually go somewhere! 🫢 Since we last posted about Waymo coming to London, its autonomous vehicles have started testing across the capital with safety specialists onboard. So far it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing. One test vehicle reportedly ended up on the same dead-end street three times in one week, including a 4am trip that woke local residents. Not quite the autonomous driving experience you’d hope for! But these are exactly the kinds of situations Waymo needs to learn from. With London’s narrow roads, cycle lanes, complicated junctions and black cabs, there’s plenty for its AI, sensors and software to figure out.
