Standing by farmers during the drought. As temperatures are forecast to reach up to 38°C in parts of England today, farmers across the UK are facing another difficult day in what has already been a challenging season of hot, dry weather. Farms play a vital role in the UK, helping put food on our tables, supporting rural jobs and businesses, and caring for the landscapes that communities enjoy every day. Our specialist teams are speaking to farmers every day, and one thing is clear: every business is facing different pressures. As the UK's largest agricultural lender, we’re here to support farmers. That could mean help with cash flow, overdrafts, or other borrowing arrangements. We're also looking beyond today's challenges and helping farmers as they invest in the long-term resilience of their businesses.

CAT-egory is: feline office memes. Tomorrow is International Cat Day, so we’re celebrating just some of the purrrfect pals 'helping' our colleagues WFH. We bet they’re loving having their humans around more over flex summer, our benefit where many of our colleagues can work from anywhere in the UK for 6 weeks. Got your own cat colleague? Share how they’re lending a paw in the comments 😸

Neigh-stopping UK manufacturers… …as they 'gallop' towards new opportunities 🐎 Take Saracen Horse Feeds for example. The Kent-based business is ‘saddling up’ to scale their international footprint. Investment, supported by around £3m in funding from Lloyds, has enabled the company to introduce automation software, boosting production efficiency and increasing supply for customers. The business is now ready to ‘canter’ into new export markets across Europe and the Middle East. They're one of many businesses we're backing as they take ‘the reins’ of their next phase of growth. Over 2026, we will make over £35 billion of new finance available to companies operating and investing in the UK. #HelpingBritainProsper

(Trigger warning: domestic abuse) This is Joan’s story. When Joan arrived in the UK in 2019, she had left behind a successful life in New York - her own home, a Range Rover, a finance career. But after her relationship became abusive, she had no choice but to leave. Returning to the country of her birth with only $500, she expected family support. Instead, she spent days sleeping on benches at Heathrow airport, washing in bathrooms and struggling to process how drastically her life had changed. “I think I was in shock… just a girl without a plan,” she says. Airport security eventually connected her with a charity that placed her in a hostel. A dozen women in a cramped room, £20 a week to live on, and nowhere to be during the day. Joan walked London for hours daily, passing the financial districts that reminded her of the life she’d lost. She was told she might wait 10 years for council housing. Then, one day, she was given a leaflet for Crisis. “That’s when everything changed,” she says. “I sat there for hours crying my eyes out, talking to a complete stranger about what I was going through,” Joan says. “I remember while I was talking to him, I knew I was going to be okay.” Crisis helped her secure a privately rented flat and connected her with a construction company at a Crisis job fair. She was hired for an admin role and has stayed there for six years. A Changing Lives grant from Crisis reignited a long-held dream: opening a bridal shop focused on brides, not budgets. With £2,500, she bought supplies, launched online, and eventually opened Brides Walking the Runway. She later met her partner, bought a home in Kent, and is now planning her own wedding - luckily, she knows someone who can provide the dress. --- Joan is part of our Housing in the UK series. These real-life stories show the lived reality behind the UK's housing crisis. They show the individual challenges of finding affordable housing and what it means to finally have a place to call home. Our charity partnership with Crisis and Simon Community Northern Ireland is helping people like Joan to build a life beyond homelessness for good.

Looking for a trend in finance? Look no further than AI and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), two of the biggest developments in financial services in recent years. While most of us are familiar with AI and how quickly it's reshaping the way we work and live, the way money and assets move is evolving too. One of the technologies driving this change is DLT. But what is Distributed Ledger Technology? Think of DLT as a digital record book shared across multiple participants. Everyone works from the same information, with updates visible to all. What are the benefits? 1. A single version of the truth. 2. Greater transparency. 3. Faster, more efficient processes. 4. Increased resilience. So why are we talking about AI and DLT together? AI is changing how decisions are made, information is analysed and complex tasks are coordinated. DLT can help enable trusted transactions, record ownership and move value more efficiently. What's exciting is what could happen when the two work together. Take homebuying as an example. AI could help coordinate the many steps involved, while DLT could enable contracts, payments and ownership records to update simultaneously. The result? A faster, more seamless experience for customers. So why aren't we seeing more of this today? Technology, regulation and market standards are still evolving. Digital wallets and digital forms of money could also play an important role in making these models more commonplace. What won't change is trust. Human oversight, strong governance, customer consent and regulatory alignment will remain essential to ensuring these technologies are used safely and responsibly. So where does this leave us? AI and DLT will continue to evolve independently, but the real opportunity may come from using them together. We're already helping build the foundations for the future of financial services through our work in AI, digital assets and DLT. That includes participating in industry pilots and initiatives exploring tokenised money, digital assets and how money and assets could move more efficiently in the future. So watch this space and see what's next.
