NEWS: Browne Jacobson moves into new Cardiff office at One Central Square after signing a 10-year lease on the 9,500 sq ft space in the heart of the City Centre. The law firm's new permanent home in the landmark city-centre development, reflects the rapid growth of its Cardiff team since launching in 2023 and its continued investment in the Welsh legal market. Commenting on the move, Tim Edds, Partner and Head of the Cardiff office, said: "Moving into a permanent office at the heart of Cardiff’s business district is an important milestone in Browne Jacobson’s journey and signals our long-term commitment to the Welsh legal market, as well as our ambition for significant future growth." Laura Hughes, Partner and Executive Lead for Wales added: “Alongside bringing our full suite of legal services to Wales, we’ve been very keen to create a legacy here via our social mobility initiatives, which we believe can make a substantial difference to the perception of the legal profession and professional services among Welsh young people. “We know that Welsh people love living in Wales surrounded by their family and communities. By signalling our long-term commitment to Cardiff and Wales more broadly, we’re excited about being able to offer more opportunities for some of the nation’s best legal and professional services talent to join a Top 50 law firm.” 🔗 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eWn3W4pc #Legal #News #Wales #Cardiff #growth #expansion #lawfirm #LegalSector #BusinessGrowth

🚨 Law Firms in Wales: URGENT CONSULTATION on Interest on Lawyers’ Trust / Client Accounts – Respond by 9 Feb 2026 🚨 The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has launched a consultation on introducing an Interest on Lawyers’ Client Accounts (ILCA/IOLTA) scheme, which would require solicitors’ firms in England and Wales to remit a significant portion of interest earned on client funds to government. ❗ Under the proposals: • A large share of interest on client accounts (e.g., 75% on pooled accounts and 50% on individual accounts) could be diverted to the MoJ’s central budget. • This would apply to all firms holding client money, regardless of structure or how interest is currently handled. • The MoJ frames the changes as a way for the legal sector to contribute to strengthening the justice system, drawing on similar schemes abroad. ❗ Potential areas of impact for law firms: • High street and smaller law firms may feel financial strain, with concerns about viability and potential fee increases. • There’s debate over whether funds would be ring-fenced for access to justice or simply absorbed into general MoJ funding. • Firms will need to assess practical implications – especially around compliance, client relationships, and accounting. 🚨 The Law Society is preparing its own response and urges all firms and legal professionals to submit their views to the MoJ consultation. 🚨 📅 Deadline: Monday 9 February 2026 🎤 Have your say: If your firm or organisation will be affected, now is the time to consider the practical and sectoral implications and respond to the consultation, details here: https://lnkd.in/eJBZXzQh #legal #News #Wales #lawfirms #Consultation #ClientAccounts #TheLawSociety #MoJ #legalsector
