• A great recap of AT3 from David Castro Santos, capturing what made the forecasting community coming together in Munich so worthwhile.   Infrata's Mitchell Stirling, Managing Consultant, spoke at the conference earlier this month, presenting “Global Air Traffic Demand Elasticities: Directionality, Market Archetypes and Long-Term Forecasting Applications” to a room of airport forecasting professionals. Co-developed with David Castro Santos of Groupe ADP, the session made the case that directionality is central to understanding air travel demand: the way passengers respond to fares and market conditions is rarely symmetric across a route and treating it as if it can obscure the real drivers of growth. Built on a large panel of directed market flows, the work set out a more behaviourally grounded way to think about elasticity and its place in long-term forecasting and was designed as an update to the Intervistas/IATA work in 2007.   We appreciate the opportunity to share the platform with Groupe ADP and to take part in such an engaged set of discussions. Our thanks to the organisers, and to everyone who contributed to the conversations. #AT3 #AviationForecasting #AirTravelDemand #AirportAdvisory

At Groupe ADP, we regularly develop long-term traffic forecasts to support airport investments, strategic planning and concession opportunities across a wide range of markets. To better understand why markets with similar economic growth often experience very different traffic outcomes, we commissioned a study on airport traffic elasticities, examining how market characteristics influence the relationship between economic growth and passenger demand. The objective was not necessarily to challenge established industry views, but rather to test, quantify and support them with a robust evidence base. The results confirmed that factors such as market maturity, demand direction and broader market characteristics play a significant role in shaping long-term traffic growth. It was a pleasure to present the results this week at the at3 Annual Conference in Munich alongside Mitchell Stirling. Many thanks to him, the entire Infrata, a dss⁺ company team and ADP's aviation development team (Laura Faucon, Chris Asmanis, Bertrand Coquant, Mathis and the rest) for the tremendous work that went into this study, and to the at3 ACI World - Airports Council International community for the excellent discussion and valuable feedback!

  • From traffic data… to daily operational value For many toll road operators, the challenge is not data availability, it is to create a consistent dataset, that can be leveraged to gather useful insights, and actionable measures across a complex portfolio. We recently worked with Metropistas (Abertis) in Puerto Rico to build a tool designed for day-to-day operations. We developed a Traffic Performance Dashboard that provides daily updated, multi-level visibility - from yearly and monthly trends to detailed hourly traffic profiles, across the entire network, individual roads, and down to specific toll plazas. By consolidating multiple data sources and KPIs into one platform, it allows to: 🟢 Monitor traffic performance consistently across assets 🟢 Detect anomalies at an early stage 🟢 Strengthen traffic and revenue assurance processes 🟢 Significantly streamline and standardise internal reporting This collaboration is a strong example of how leading operators like Metropistas (Abertis) are already leveraging data to enhance #assetmanagement. It also reflects a broader shift across #infrastructure operators towards using data more efficiently in the daily operations. Thinking how this could apply to your assets? We’d be glad to discuss how similar approaches could be applied - reach out to Eva García Jiménez and Luca Benedini.

  • Infrata, a dss+ company, is pleased to see construction now underway at the Sparrows Point Container Terminal development in Maryland. This joint venture between Tradepoint Atlantic and Terminal Investment Limited (TiL) is expected to handle up to 2.0 million TEUs at full expansion and represents one of the largest maritime greenfield projects currently under development in the US. Infrata supported the project team through the preparation of an Economic Impact Assessment, helping communicate the wider economic relevance of the development and supporting stakeholder engagement around the project. It is always rewarding to see projects progress from early-stage development into delivery, and we wish the team every success as construction advances. Today, we broke ground on the Sparrows Point Container Terminal, and it marks one of the most significant milestones in Tradepoint Atlantic's history. From the former Bethlehem Steel site to one of the most competitive logistics hubs on the East Coast – the comeback story of Sparrows Point continues. Joined by Governor Wes Moore, our partners at Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), and federal, state, and local leaders, we took the next major step in our mission to establish Sparrows Point as one of the most strategic logistics hubs on the East Coast. Together with TiL, we have committed approximately $1.2 billion in private investment to deliver a terminal that will handle more than 1 million containers annually, accommodate 2 ultra-large container vessels simultaneously, feature 7 ship-to-shore cranes, and offer direct on-dock intermodal rail connectivity, bringing thousands of new jobs to the Baltimore area. This is what a decade of work looks like. Since redevelopment began, Tradepoint Atlantic has attracted over 14,000 jobs and billions in private investment to the former Bethlehem Steel site. "This groundbreaking marks one of the most significant moments in the history of this site and for the Port of Baltimore. Our partnership with TiL is a transformational investment in Maryland's economy and Baltimore's future. The Sparrows Point Container Terminal will position the Port as a true global gateway and economic engine, making Maryland strategically significant and globally competitive for decades to come." - Kerry Doyle, Managing Director, Tradepoint Atlantic
