For fanfic and podfic by me, I'd steer you towards the Archive of Our Own: [archiveofourown.org profile] tinypinkmouse

I'm trying to appreciate the things I make more, so in an effort to do so I thought I'd make a post of the stuff I've made this year (that I can remember).

So, I had to embroider something at work, for reasons I'm not entirely clear on. Anyway, I was told I was to make it without planning it out all that much. This is what I made.
multicoloured embroidered text that says "hold on let me overthink this"

I found out that alpha patterns for friendship bracelets are a thing that exists, and immediately wanted to try it out. I haven't made a friendship bracelet of any kind since I was a kid. It turned out pretty okay if I say so myself, but I haven't actually finished it, I just made enough to see how it looks.

We briefly learned how to make fransu at work. It's a local tradition of knotting lace, I guess. It's sort of not entirely unlike macrame. I immediately went and borrowed all the books on it the library had. There were some old books, it's not exactly something people make these days. Glad to do my tiny part in keeping local craft traditions alive. It's not perfect but I managed a tiny piece.

I was trying to figure out how to make edges for cross stitch badges, experiments ended up with these.
cross stitched heart badges with different lgbtq+ flag colours

The reason I was experimenting with the cross stitch edging was that I was repairing my bag and wanted to add some cross stitch pieces to it. I'm pretty happy with how the bag turned out, it took a while to finish because I hand stitched everything. Hopefully the repairs will hold for a while, because I don't want to change bags.

My cross stitch experiments led to me remembering these bookmarks I made ten years ago and then never did the whole folding and edging part. But I was now inspired, I looked at lots of different ways of doing edges. So I could finally finish these.

And then lastly we decorated flowerpots (or some other stuff, I did the flowerpot thing) at work, with mosaic. At least this time I know what it's for, it's going on display because it's a course they offer, so it's advertisement. I get the flowerpot for myself at some later date. The experience was somewhat frustrating, and I ended up just slapping pieces on the pot whichever way they fit. But the result is pretty okay, so I think I'll try at home where I can do this with a bit more thought now that I more or less know what I'm doing.

Dear Author,

Thank you for creating something for me. As long as it's something you enjoy making I'm sure I'll love it! Everything I say here is just suggestions and there's no need to try to fit everything into a fic, a lot of it is contradictory so that wouldn't even work.

Gifts and treats are very welcome.

There are a few very short canons (around 15 minutes). I've provided links to them to make things easier, in case someone wants to watch them.

Adding characters other than the requested ones is entirely okay, as long as the focus is still mostly on the requested characters.

(The rest of the letter is formatted into sections that you should be able to toggle open and closed, if for some reason that format doesn't work for you, you can also find the letter in it's entirety published as a Google Doc without any toggles.)

General likes

I'm not always the greatest at individual prompts. If a specific fandom or pairing is lacking in ideas from me that is not a sign that I want it any less than any of the other things I'm requesting. It's more likely a sign of me desperately wanting something I'm not capable of writing myself.

So, here's a list of things I enjoy (in no particular order). I'll write about what I want from specific fandoms further down. Not all of these will fit with the individual requests, because this is a very general list of the random things I like.

  • identity porn
  • getting together
  • established relationship
  • hurt/comfort (emotional or physical)
  • canon divergence
  • time travel fix-it (this is my major weakness. I love stories where a character goes back to the beginning of canon and gets a do over. Or something a bit more nuanced than that. It's all great.)
  • time travel (well executed time travel stories are marvellous and so satisfying. Handwavy time travel where it just happens or something where I get all the fiddly time travel details or anything in between.)
  • happy ending
  • unhappy ending (sometimes the angst can be delicious, but I have to be in the right mood for it and it might take a bit more effort to manage to read it. My DNWs make this a bit impossible honestly, unless you're writing very specifically about Jiang Yang)
  • trust
  • worldbuilding
  • crack treated seriously
  • internal consistency (whatever weird things happen, as long as it makes sense by whatever rules and logic that exists in universe I'll be happy to believe it)
  • long hair (people, especially men, having long hair, but also long hair related intimacy; brushing or washing or braiding or generally caring for someone else's hair)
  • exploration of relationships
  • competency (and other people acknowledging and possibly finding that competency quite attractive)
  • devotion/loyalty
  • shapeshifting (in the sense of people turning into animals/creatures/monsters/aliens/something generally not entirely human looking and vice versa. Not so much people shapeshifting into other people, or into inanimate objects)
  • enemies to friends to lovers
  • healing from trauma
  • non-sexual intimacy
  • amnesia (as long as the memories come back at some point)
  • cultural differences
  • differences in experience
  • language differences
  • caretaking
  • outsider POV
  • age differences
  • species differences (as in someone being maybe an alien or something supernatural; sapient species)
  • scifi
  • aliens
  • polyamory
  • asexual characters
  • consent (as a theme, so lack of it is also interesting and how people deal with that)
  • people very much in love
  • identity reveal
  • disabled characters/characters with chronic illnesses
  • chronic pain
  • genderswap and/or sex swap (as in an AU where the character(s) have always been a different gender and/or sex. Not the woke up as a different sex and now have to deal with it kind)
  • selfcest (a clone, an AU version of the same character, an alternate timeline version; but also an entirely different character from a different canon but played by the same actor)
  • crossovers
  • weilan derivative ships (crossover pairings of characters played by Zhu Yilong/Bai Yu)

I don't have any top/bottom preferences. In my mind it's all whatever fits the fic, and not particularly fixed. On the whole I'm not particularly looking for anything explicit. I enjoy sex with emotions in fic, but I don't really enjoy smut just for the sake of smut (I get a bit bored by it). Sex that tells us something about their feelings; has character development; is important to the plot somehow and so on, is a lot more interesting. Which yes, I suppose is a rather fuzzy distinction, but well, if you can skip the sex scene and the overall story won't be impacted at all, then I'd rather there wasn't a sex scene at all.

DNWs

  • omegaverse
  • infidelity
  • reincarnation (unless it's canonical)
  • recreational drug use
  • substance abuse (canon typical levels of alcohol consumption or a canonical smoking habit is fine)
  • humiliation (if it's something consensual during sex it's entirely fine)
  • mundane AUs, like coffee shop/bakery/flower shop AUs (unless someone ends up being an assassin or a monster or something)
  • high school AUs
  • permanent depowering
  • permanent imprisonment
  • teacher/student
  • scat
  • eye trauma
  • teeth loss (or other teeth related trauma or injury)
  • role reversal AUs
  • porn without plot
  • breaking up requested relationships (unless it's Jiang Yang and he dies, dying is sort of like breaking up, right?)
  • permanent character death of requested characters (except if it's Jiang Yang; and if the characters die canonically they can keep their canonical deaths)
  • unrequested crossovers

Maria Lang | Crimes of Passion (Movies)
  • Einar Bure/Puck Ekstedt/Christer Wijk

I would prefer any possible sex to be of the fade to black variety.

Fandom specific DNWs: Any kind of AU aside from canon divergence

Prompts:

  • After the Dangerous Dreams film: Puck and Eje have a talk, and come to the conclusion that maybe what happened during the movie (Christer and Puck sharing a hotel room and all that) actually did mean a bit more than everyone asserted. Eje doesn't quite know if he's jealous of Christer or Puck (both, it's both!). They somehow manage to realise that they both might have feelings for Christer and decide that the next time they see Christer they need to talk to him.
  • Solving some kind of mystery! Doesn't necessarily need to be a murder. Something a lot smaller and harmless would also be delightful.
  • Eje needs to be rescued for a change. He won't feel so excluded from the other two geeking out on investigating if he's involved.

More thoughts:

I enjoy Puck and Eje as a couple well enough, but there's just so much threesome potential in this that I just need more of that. These are some of my thoughts on the films, characters and potential ideas to include in a fic.

I could see the pairing either as a threesome or a v-style relationship with Puck in the middle. I like both options. Just give her both men, in whichever way, they clearly both adore her. Eje and Christer are already friends from before, and I could totally see Eje at least having had a crush on Christer at some point, even if he didn't say anything about it, or necessarily even realised it himself. And likewise if Christer had had some romantic feelings for Eje it's probably not something he would have pursued, seeing as it's another man, but also because Christer is a bit more prone to casual relationships and he's aware that Eje is not like that. Christer does seem to want something a bit more permanent the older he gets however.

I always thought that after Dangerous Dreams (Farliga drömmar) would be a perfect place for them to finally get around to having a relationship talk about all three of them. There's Puck and Christer sharing a hotel room during the film, and Eje's jealousy and everyone telling everyone that nothing happened and it means nothing. They could do with a talk, and possibly a realisation that it does mean something.

I don't know, possibly once Puck and Eje get around to talking about it they might realise they both like Christer and then hopefully decide that they need to include Christer in the discussion as well. Eje is always at least slightly jealous of the connection between Puck and Christer, and maybe he's not always that clear on which of them he's jealous of.

Dangerous Dreams is pretty late in the series, so there's definitely more than a few earlier opportunities for them to get together as well. Any of those would work splendidly as well.

I enjoy the murder mystery part of the films of course, and I would be delighted to have them solve some kind of mystery. That is of course entirely optional, but I can see how some kind of danger and mystery would have the potential to bring everyone closer.

It wouldn't make Eje too happy necessarily, since he always feels excluded when Puck and Eje both get a bit caught up with investigating, since that's just not Eje's thing. So maybe there could be some way of including him somehow. Maybe have Eje in trouble and have the other two have to come to his rescue.

Somehow managing to get them into a small town or other smaller community setting would be nice, the same way the films do (they never seem to happen in the city they actually live in). The setting of these films makes me feel unreasonably nostalgic, especially King Lily of the Valley (Kung liljekonvalje av dungen) and No More Murders (Inte flera mord) that both take place in Christer's and Eje's hometown. There's just something that resonates with the setting

(And this is definitely out of the scope of the exchange but if someone actually made fic in Swedish I would consider selling my nonexistent soul.)

西出玉门 | Parallel World | West Out of Yumen (TV)
  • Chang Dong/Ye Liuxi (TV)
  • Chang Dong/Ye Liuxi/Jiang Zhan

Fandom specific DNWs: Chang Dong and Ye Liuxi permanently moving into the "real world" post-canon, Jiang Zhan dying if he's included in the relationship

The first three episodes should be free on youtube.

Prompts:

  • Post-canon, what happens after you win the war? There's a lot of things that needs fixing in the Pass.
  • What happens three years later? When Chang Dong's time runs out again. Is there some new scheme from the Long Zhi by then? Surely she'd try to bargain somehow at least, seeing as they need one of the Longs to keep Chang Dong alive
  • Worldbuilding. Just worldbuilding. It's such an interesting world.
  • What if Jiang Zhan doesn't manage to kill himself. How does he deal with Ye Liuxi being in love with someone else, and with the fact that she's clearly a happier and somewhat softer version of the woman he knows. How do Chang Dong and Jiang Zhan get along?

More thoughts:

There's a lot of potential for worldbuilding in this universe. What we get to see in the show is so intriguing and I would love for someone to build on that.

The Red Tree Inns are fascinating (there's a whole chain of them, right? And they're all underground. Are they just… all conveniently named that for reasons that you have to follow the lights from one of those red trees to get there? Or is there someone in charge of the whole chain of them?

The exotic beasts sure are something. There seems to be one for every occasion, with varying levels of actual sentience. Are some of them just like people not necessarily human or human shaped? Where do the exotic beast fit into post-canon Yumen Pass?

How big is the Pass actually? What's the geography like? What's the thing with all the roosters? I adore the roosters.

I'm mostly thinking post-canon because there's so many questions left open, but something set during canon would also work.

I adore both Chang Dong and Ye Liuxi. They're such good characters. I love how Ye Liuxi learns to be a little softer, and how to care about people. And I love how that doesn't quite change the fact that she's still a little bit violent and stab happy. She's so strong, in so many senses of the word.

I love Chang Dong's journey back from the broken, traumatised man he'd become. And he's such a good person, like just genuinely good.

I adore Chang Dong's and Ye Liuxi's relationship, they are so very in love. And they communicate! Everything works out when people communicate. I just love how they are with each other. The tender moments, and the laughing together and the… everything.

If Jiang Zhan survives, there's a lot of sorting through of everyone's emotions to do again, I suspect. After all the perceived betrayal and memory loss. Because Ye Liuxi and Jiang Zhan certainly have history and Chang Dong might feel like he's intruding and Jiang Zhan would probably be jealous of Chang Dong's place in Ye Liuxi's life while also being happy for her (because above all else he loves her and wants her to be happy). It would certainly take a bit to navigate them to a relationship with all three of them, whatever form it takes. It's a good thing they communicate quite well. They'd talk about stuff, after a bit of initial miscommunication, I think.

Chinese Actor RPF
Bai Yu/Zhu Yilong

I'd be delighted by something a bit more AU in nature. Maybe some supernatural elements? Or something scifi (in honour of the Guardian show that was suddenly aliens). Dragon Zhu Yilong! Or something. They could still be themselves, actors and everything, just with a bit of added otherness. Or something more AU than that.

Bai Yu (Actor)/Liu Yuning (Singer) (RPF)
Bai Yu & Liu Yuning
Bai Yu & Liu Yuning & Zhou Keyu | Daniel

I've been watching everything that's come out for the Truth season 2 and most of my thoughts are related to that. The three of them together are excellent. I love them. I haven't requested a romantic pairing with all three of them, but now that I've seen a little bit more of The Truth, a threesome would be absolutely lovely too.

I think this short video (1:06) is pretty much encapsulates how I think they are together: on twitter | on tumblr (it's the same video, the one on twitter has a short translation in the tweet)

Here's the entire youtube playlist for the Truth season 2. For further inspiration and such. Of course, there's a lot more to all three of them than just the one tv show! But it's a fun tv show in any case.

I think I'd possibly like something revolving around the backstage happenings of the Truth (season one or two). But I also wouldn't mind something entirely AU, I think. I'm not really looking for detailed research being done into their lives. What I want is the public persona they usually present to the world, in whatever setting.

Look at how close Liu Yuning and Bai Yu are sitting in the season 2 pics, the random touching. I really don't have any ideas as far as plot goes, I just like the way they seem to act around each other. There was always a lot of touching in season 2 as well.

Getting together, established relationship. Just hanging out and being friends. I just want to see them together in some form.

Random things I've learned about them that have stuck in my mind:

I know nothing of Zhou Keyu really, but he fits well with the other two in the clips I see with the three of them. I should learn more about him.

Bai Yu keeps snacking on things. Like scaring people. Is a gremlin. Eats lots of noodles. Everyone seems to like him. Does not scare easily. Likes his snacks (sunflower seeds). Why stand when you can sit, why sit when you can lie down? In the Truth everyone seems to call him Bai ge despite him not necessarily being older. Seems pretty outgoing. Does well in group settings. Friendly. But enjoys his privacy. Likes gaming?

Liu Yuning. Very tall. Does lots of livestreams. Very nice and considerate of others. Gets easily scared. Doesn't like being alone in scary places. (Give him someone to hide behind. But he's too tall to hide really.) Some people tell him he doesn't have a pretty enough face for period dramas and he always tries to make the best of his reaction to that despite how mean people are. Has a small fluffy looking dog.

Crusade (TV 1999)
  • Galen & Dureena Nafeel
  • Character: Galen (Crusade)

The show was cut pretty short, so there's a lot of worldbuilding that could have been. Personally, I'm most interested in whatever is going on with the technomages. And also in seeing how the relationship between Dureena and Galen might develop.

人生大事 | Lighting Up the Stars (2022)
  • Mo Sanmei & Wu Xiaowen
  • Character: Mo Sanmei (Lighting Up the Stars)

Fandom specific DNWs: Mo Sanmei paired with Xiaowen's mom romantically or sexually

Mo Sanmei is just such a good character and I would very much like more of him. I wouldn't mind a crossover relationship if the crossover character is played by Bai Yu or Zhu Yilong (ZYLBY48 Roles Sheet lists all their roles and I'd be delighted by any of those crossovers except with any characters from the Guardian drama). But really, slice of life Mo Sanmei without any crossovers or romance would be awesome.

I love the interactions between San-ge and Xiaowen. But also the rest of the little found family.

Is Xiaowen's mom still around post-canon? How does that work with everything? From what little her mom was there I liked her, so I wouldn't mind seeing more of her, but I don't mind her not being there either.

Would San-ge be reluctant to start dating someone because it might be difficult for Xiaowen? If there does happen to be some kind of romance, how would Xiaowen feel about/act towards a boyfriend? Integrating yet another person into their little found family.

最佳团伙 | Zuì Jiā Tuán Huǒ (Short Film)
  • Character: Lin Dayu (Zui Jia Tuan Huo)

Full movie (16:25). There are no English subs. I didn't understand any of what they were saying, so if you don't understand the language you'll do about as well as me in understanding what's happening. Lin Dayu is the one who gets all tied up at one point.

A short summary though from someone who has a better grasp of what was happening:

A henchman under Biao-ge, has affair with Biao-ge's wife. But he needs money so he forms a gang with 2 others who also need money, to cheat their boss' wife's money. Another henchman, Jilao already knows of the wife's affair but didn't expose her (due to his fondness for her too?) and tries to wreck the gang's plans to extort money. (Source: ZYLBY48 Roles Google Sheet)

(Excellent source if you want a list and some information about any of the other roles either Bai Yu or Zhu Yilong have played.)

Lin Dayu is so stupid and I love him. He looks very nice all tied up though.

Does he come up with some other plan to get the money he seems to need. Does he truly feel bad for the woman he hurt? Is he now being chased by the boss?

I would definitely not mind a crossover pairing with a Zhu Yilong or Bai Yu played character from some other canon (see the aforementioned roles sheet for all his roles if that's of interest, anything from that list with the exception of Guardian would be an excellent crossover). But a solely Lin Dayu focused fic would be awesome, which is why I'm requesting him all on his own.

风起陇西 | The Wind Blows from Longxi (TV)
  • Character: Xun Xu (The Wind Blows from Longxi)

The entire series should be found on youtube in this playlist.

Xun Xu absolutely deserves the world, and canon was anything but kind to him. And I would so love to see how he moves on from everything he's had to go through. I'm mostly interested in what happens after the show, once Xun Xu goes off to establish his own spy outpost in another country, unless Xun Xu is just removed from that environment entirely (as in time travel or some AU setting). But yes, post-canon of him putting his life and himself back together, learning to live with things. A bit more broken, a bit more bitter, and still too good of a person for the profession he's in than is in any way good for him.

How does he settle into his new environment/job description? Do his injuries still affect him, and how does he deal with that? It did seem like he'd never entirely heal from what was done to him, and I'd love some exploration of that.

Romance with a crossover character played by Zhu Yilong or Bai Yu would always work for me (ZYLBY48 Roles Sheet should include a list of all the roles in question if that's of interest, any fandom from that list except for Guardian would be most okay with me). I don't mind if that character is from a modern canon and you just move him into a life where he's always lived in the past, no explanations. Also don't mind actual time travel. Or there are characters that are at least in more historic settings that would also work. But that's definitely the most optional of suggestions, I wouldn't ask for something with just Xun Xu if I wasn't extremely happy to receive that.

幻乐之城 | PhantaCity (TV)
  • Character: Joker (PhantaCity)
  • Joker & Flower Girl (PhantaCity)

Okay, I hate that canonical tag on AO3 and am just going to call him Clown, since everyone I've ever seen mention the character has called him either Clown or Chou.

Fandom specific DNWs: calling the character Joker, calling the character by the actor's name

Here's a video of just the part with Clown (15:32) with English subtitles.

He's a sweetheart. And possibly beat someone to death. I like the idea of the Clown being at least a little bit murdery. Well, I just love him. And his relationship with the little flower seller is so sweet.

What happens after the canon? Alternatively, a modern AU. Alternatively any AU really. Put the Clown in any setting and I'll be happy to read it honestly. I just really, really want more of him.

Also romance with a crossover character played by Bai Yu or Zhu Yilong would not go amiss (ZYLBY48 Roles Sheet should include a list of all the roles they've played if that's of interest, I'd be happy with any fandom from that list with the exception of Guardian).

Crossover Fandom Relationships

In general with crossovers I'm delighted by character interactions. How do the characters from different canons react to each other? Think about each other? It doesn't necessarily matter how its even possible for characters of two very different canons to be in the same place, because the interactions themselves are far more interesting.

In contrast, the other thing I like is figuring out how the crossover will work. So basically worldbuilding around the crossover. I'm happy with stories that are basically all about how the crossover happens (portals between universes etc), explaining how characters end up in a different universe or how they were actually always in the same universe (maybe someone crash landed on an alien planet). So just explaining the crossover is the plot, more or less, or maybe the plot is just trying to get back home.

Since there's more than one crossover request with Guardian I'll put this here before going on to any individual requests. I have not tagged as such, but I always assume that Zhao Yunlan/Shen Wei is a thing that exists in some form in basically anything Guardian, or that will exist at some point in the future and it just hasn't happened yet. Even if just in the background somewhere, even if it's never actually mentioned. There's no need to explicitly say they're a couple either. I will assume anyway.

Chang Dong (Parallel World)/Luo Fusheng (Granting You a Dreamlike Life)/Ye Liuxi (Parallel World)
Fandom specific DNWs: Parallel World: Chang Dong and Ye Liuxi permanently moving into the "real world" post-canon

In this case, my personal inclination would be to entirely ignore the fact that Luo Fusheng belongs to an entirely different time than any of Parallel World and stick him in there anyway. Just handwave it and pretend he belongs. He could be a native of Yumen Pass. He could have ended up there some way from the real world. There could be time travel. Anything works really, and I don't even need it to be explained. He can just be there.

I just happen to think he'd fit together well with Chang Dong and Ye Liuxi and would like to see that happen. Give Chang Dong two very deadly people overly fond of knives.

Galen (Crusade) & Shen Wei (Guardian)

Fandom Specific DNWs: Guardian: Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan breaking up, specific mentions of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan not being a romantic couple (unless a character says it and it's then proven false)

Galen's unnecessary level of mysteriousness meets Shen Wei's refusal to tell the truth. I'd take anything really, I just think it could be fun.

Dureena Nafeel (Crusade) & Zhao Yunlan (Guardian)

Fandom Specific DNWs: Guardian: Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan breaking up, specific mentions of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan not being a romantic couple (unless a character says it and it's then proven false)

These two also seem like they could be fun together. I think they'd get along and it could be a fun fic exploring what to slightly chaotic people might end up managing if they meet.

G'Kar (Babylon 5) & Shen Wei (Guardian) & Zhao Yunlan (Guardian)
Delenn (Babylon 5) & Shen Wei (Guardian)
Londo Mollari (Babylon 5) & Shen Wei (Guardian) & Zhao Yunlan (Guardian)
Susan Ivanova (Babylon 5) & Zhao Yunlan (Guardian)

Fandom Specific DNWs: Guardian: Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan breaking up, specific mentions of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan not being a romantic couple (unless a character says it and it's then proven false)

Okay just grouping all of these together. In my mind somehow Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan end up on Babylon 5 and meet people. These are the people I'd be most interested in seeing them interact with, but also Vir and Lennier would be nice. Oh, one of the telepaths could also be interesting, Lyta or Talia depending on when the fic is set.

This is my favourite show and my favourite show. I want to see what happens when you put them together.

Jane Marple (Agatha Christie's Marple TV) & Zhao Yunlan (Guardian)

Fandom specific DNWs: Marple/Guardian (only for this specific crossover): Any AU except for canon divergence

Honestly, this is one of those "oh it would be cool if that happened, but unfortunately I can't write it."

Ignoring any language barriers and assuming that Zhao Yunlan is conversant enough in English I feel like Miss Marple would like Zhao Yunlan quite a bit.

There's always the possibility of a murder to solve. But also, just something small where they meet and talk.

Occasionally Miss Marple has been known to be convinced to go on a vacation. It might be easier to make up a vacation setting to add both of them to and have them meet there. But obviously it would be tricky with Zhao Yunlan definitely being from a more modern time than Miss Marple. Perhaps Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei can go on vacation through a bit of portal travel (accidentally or not).

Jiang Yang (The Long Night)/Time Engraver (L'Oreal "Time Engraver")

Fandom specific DNWs:
The Long Night: entirely curing Jiang Yang (I'm okay with making his illness non-terminal however)
Time Engraver: The Time Engraver character being called by the actor's name

Time Engraver ads with English subtitles: first ad (3:40) | second ad (6:28)

So yeah, I kind of want most of Jiang Yang's life to happen, jail time and all, but if you want to avoid the ending, then you can just ignore Jiang Yang's final plan. Of course that sort of leaves the whole Hou Guiping case unsolved, but that's okay. It can stay unsolved or there can be some alternate way of solving it.

I feel like there's a lot of potential for angst in this. Part of me wants to avoid the canon ending for Jiang Yang and the other part of me absolutely wants to keep it. So either is good. The ending was while upsetting, also quite satisfying, loose ends tied up and Jiang Yang's final act pushing that old case into being solved.

For the pairing I was imagining something where they get to know each other during Jiang Yang's life, or possibly the Time Engraver gets to know Jiang Yang while he isn't necessarily aware of it. The Time Engraver would get to know small moments in his life, because there are some bad things that age Jiang Yang quite a lot and the Time Engraver would be there for all of them (or well, take Jiang Yang away to his workshop to carve the age into his skin). The shocks, the illness… the ending. Not sure how aware of any of this Jiang Yang would be.

I wouldn't mind if things started slowly getting a bit better for Jiang Yang after he gets out of jail. He's depressed and sick so small improvement, tiny steps. Also, it would be nice if his wife and kid weren't entirely forgotten about. Not that they need to feature in any significant way, but they're important to Jiang Yang so it would be nice to acknowledge that somehow.

I like themes of chronic illness, but mostly living with it. I definitely don't want him to just be illness free suddenly. Jiang Yang's illness seems to be a bit more terminal in nature, but on the other hand we never get to that point in the show, so who's to say really. Maybe if he'd accepted treatment/it had been caught earlier… And if you end up saving him from the canon ending it would be very upsetting to have him just die another way slightly later. On the other hand that might be upsetting in a very good way, just like the show itself.

If it's something set before the jail time, maybe there could be something featuring Jiang Yang being very competent at his job. Because he seems to be quite good at it, despite how things ended up, and it would be nice to see that.

I think seeing as the Time Engraver does seem to be able to stop time, at least in his workshop, something time related could be fun. Maybe things do happen the way they do for Jiang Yang, but there's some kind of opportunity to go back and change something.

Mo Sanmei (Lighting Up the Stars)/Zheng Xijue (Take Us Home)

Mo Sanmei after he became a father would probably understand Zheng Xijue's wish to take care of his family. I'm very soft for both of these characters, and they could definitely be soft for each other.

And Mo Sanmei wouldn't insist Zheng Xijue can do better with his life and end up with Zheng Xijue suffering from insomnia because of all the stress of trying to achieve what everyone else expects from him.

It's alive!

I don't really have much to say. I just feel like I don't talk to people as much as I used to these days and I guess I'm feeling... not exactly lonely, but something like it anyway. Not sure if basically talking to myself will help all that much, but I felt like writing words. It's a bit unfortunate though, the not talking to people thing, because I've noticed that the less I talk to people the less I feel like posting fic. I want to want to post things.

I did sign up for the 520 reverse exchange for Guardian. I was hoping maybe that would bring back a bit of fandom excitement for me. Though, I do suppose, vol 2 coming out has made people a bit more active, so really I shouldn't complain. It's not people, it's me. I'm grumpy and bad at talking to people.

Other than that, I guess I've been reading quite a bit lately, lots of random fic in a bunch of fandoms. I want to read Guardian fic, but the prospect is a bit daunting. I care too much about Guardian and it's been a lot easier to read things that I'm not quite so emotionally invested in.

Also got back into reading danmei. I'm currently reading "After I Married the Disabled War God As My Concubine." The translation is what it is, but I'm loving the story. I didn't really think transmigration stories would necessarily be my cup of tea. I always end up not knowing how to feel about the original owner of the body. But I definitely am liking this particular transmigration story at least.

Oh, I guess I also made these weilan dolls. (I'm very proud of them.)

Imagine being such a horrible person that the mods of an event that you haven't signed up for reach out to ask you to not sign up for it. Yeah, an achievement I definitely wasn't striving for.

But here we are nonetheless )

I've never really celebrated my birthday. It's just inconveniently timed and there was never a real opportunity to do so when I was a kid and then it just became a thing. I usually don't even tell people the date, so no one will send me any birthday wishes. But! I am turning old this year (40, it's 40) and I've decided that I'm damn well going to celebrate for once. I deserve it. So, I'm totally not feeling awkward about writing any of this, not at all.

I'm not asking for gifts (except for that way I totally am), I'm just going to tell you that my birthday is the 20th of December and then tell you about things I like.

A while back there was a quite upsetting incident on the biggest Guardian discord, where I was accused of stealing my fic ideas. It was unfounded and the whole thing was extremely unpleasant. I don't want to talk about the specifics more than that, but I thought maybe it'd help me try to write down my subsequent feelings, because I am very much not okay with things still and see if I can't actually try to figure out how I am feeling about things.

I wanted an overview of my current WIPs, compiling this turned out to be a much bigger undertaking than I initially thought. This should be the situation as of February 5, 2023 (unless I missed something making this).

The guardian fic are all show canon, or AUs. I shall mention if anything is novel based. The numbers are only there so I know how damn many WIPs I have, they're not meant to indicate any sort of priority for anything. (117 altogether btw, because I can't be bothered to figure out continous numbering right now.)

These are literally the titles of the documents, and yes, I am definitely embarrassed about some of them.

I wrote this, well at some point toward the beginning of last year, and then never got around to posting it anywhere. It doesn't really seem like the thing anyone would be that interested in reading. Me rambling on about me. But, oh, well, I shall post it anyway.

I'll do this in chronological order, and since I basically stopped recording podfic once I started writing fic that means podfic first.

All of my whumptober and kinktober fills! According to this I wrote 27 Guardian fics, making up just under 85k of words. That's a lot.

Everything is pretty much set in the show-verse or AUs based mostly on the show, with the few exceptions I shall remember to point out (hopefully).

So I saw this pop on twitter, and thought it might be a fun thing to do. But doing it on twitter felt like too much effort, so here's all the recs in one. And this has been a revelation in that, apparently I like AUs a lot? I didn't think I did, but there are a lot of AUs here.

Now that the official announcement is out, it's time I made a post about the fact that I'm running in the elections for the OTW Board of Directors, even though the elections themselves aren't for a good while yet. So I decided to record something:

mp3

If you prefer the information in text format, here are the main points:
  • We get to actually vote this year

  • There are several good candidates

  • You can submit questions to the candidates

  • Please vote

Really, you get more information about me and why I'm running in my bio and manifesto. Somewhat predictably perhaps, I also recorded that:

mp3

The candidate announcement post will give you links to everyone's bios and manifestos and tell you how to submit questions for the candidates. I think some of the manifestos bring up excellent points, possibly because they express opinions similar to what I've said in my own manifesto.

Because I talked about it briefly in the audio post; the elections is going to use Instant-runoff voting, here is the Elections committee's post on how IRV works and the Wikipedia article on IRV. Basically you can give a vote to everyone, you just have to rank the candidates (but you can leave people out as well!).

I'm going to give podfic bingo a try. And here's my card, so I don't lose track of it. :)

I haven't even opened Dreamwidth for what feels like ages and now that I do the first thing I see is the announcement for the sixth round of Pod Together Lightning. I take this as an encouraging sign, since I've really enjoyed the ones I've participated in before and maybe it's time to do that again.

The truth of the matter is that I haven't had the spoons to be involved in fandom to any greater degree ever since boyfriend had his stroke. It seems like it's been a never ending battle against the odds since then, every time things seem to be going at least okay, some new complication seems to turn up, be it health or financial or something else. So I've mostly read a few fics here and there, listened to some podfic every once in a while and that's been it. Maybe managed to write or record something short now and then, but that hasn't happened for a good while now. I really want to get excited about fandom again, but I don't know how to make that happen, it's not really something you can force.

I really don't even know where to begin with fandom anymore. It'd be nice to connect to people, but the journals are so quiet these days. And neither tumblr or twitter seem to be the right fit for me (which I've probably mentioned a time or two). They're just too fast, and after a while it just feels like a chore to keep up with everything.

But Pod Together! Excitement! Maybe I should try to focus on that.

There's a few fic exhanges I really want to sign up for, but I'm not the best ever at actually getting things written these days. And I've never been very good at writing fic to deadlines. But I want to! And of course the sign up deadline is today... I don't know what to do!

Well, work practice (I have to do work practice to ever manage to finish my studies) for the last week has given me awesome opportunity for trying to write fic, no actual work to be done. Of course trying is the operative word there, I haven't finished anything. But I'm really trying to finish some of the fics I seem to have started ages ago.

And there's a new kitten. She's called Päivi and she's a spawn of Satan (according to some people). I would post a picture, but I'm too lazy right now (and the devil!kitten would actually have to stay in one place for long enough for a picture to be taken, and the camera on my phone is crap). She's very cute when she sleeps though.

I managed to finish my fic for pod together, I was doubtful for a while there. Now I'm just waiting anxiously for everything to be finished. :) I've also started recording for podficbigbang, nothing xtemely ong this year, because I don't have nearly the time I used to for podficcing, but still, it's something at least.

A lot of my time is vanishing into my workpractice, which I don't mind exactly. The work is something I like, and the company is okay. And its one step closer to finsihing my studies. Still a holiday would have been nice.

An update! I'm so shocked. I'd like to use this journal more, especialy since I've just had to accept the fact that I'll never be any good at twitter or tumblr.

I recently watched all of Almost Human. Why do I end up falling in love with the series I know there won't be any more of? I am so sad now. Fic helps of course, but there's not an infinite amount of that either.

I wrote fic for Pod Together Lightning round 3. I'm not even sure when I last posted fic that I'd written.

The fic is called The List and you can find the fic and the podfic here. It's MCU Avengers, mostly about Tony, but also sort of a Tony/Thor getting together fic.

Mostly the story is the result of bonding with [personal profile] rscreighton over Tony Stark and then trying to figure out who to pair Tony with that isn't Steve. (I like Steve/Tony, honestly I like all the MCU pairings I've seen, but I also want to see other ships). And [personal profile] rscreighton was so much fun to work with, and she made my story so much better and so much more fun with her podfic. I don't think I could be happier with the result.
