Born with a congenital heart defect, Jean always knew she'd die young. At first, she was content to do what was needed, to simply stay alive, but as time wore on she began to realize that life was too short, and that she couldn't escape Fate.
Giving up the careful life, Jean began living as normally as possible. Seeing her doctor regularly, she strayed from her diet and did things that were dangerous. She kept her condition a secret to all but her best friends, and even pursued her lifelong dream of dancing. She was living on borrowed time, but she was happy.
So happy that, when Death finally came for her, she realized with a shock that she'd defied her destiny far too late...and that she wasn't ready to go.
