I aten't dead, to borrow a phrase
Jul. 7th, 2019 08:43 amNothing super-serious or life-threatening (well, except in one case) but. You know the saying, when it rains, it pours? This was a freaking cloudburst of a week.
Things that all happened in the
1. my Spanish B1 final. Which went pretty well in the end, I got 86/100, which would be an A how we calculate things in India (I looked up the letter grade Wiki and AMERICA WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?)
2. a lost wallet scare. Mom and I went to the bookstore on Saturday to get a book she wanted, I thought I put my wallet back in my bag but wound up dropping it instead, and I didn’t realise because I was distracted by Mom attempting to walk on super uneven ground with her nose in aforesaid book. Luckily there wasn’t too much cash in it, but cancelling my cards and getting my driver’s license again would be a PITA. Thankfully, the very sweet people at the bookstore found my wallet and kept it safe for me, but that was still a very stressful 15 minutes between realisation and retrieval.
3. my bike acting up. So last month, I got a bike! It’s awesome and I love it, especially since it makes commuting to my job SO much easier. Bonus: I get exercise AND I’m much more independent. Except on Saturday, my bike started doing this weird thing where the pedals would stick for a second, then come unstuck super quick, making me lose my footing, which was FUN when I was driving on the main road with people who don’t have the sense God gave a garden snail, let me tell you. Managed, somehow, to not crash into people Saturday and Sunday, and then on Monday morning, the pedals just… locked up. They got unstuck again for a very stressful ride to the bike shop that afternoon, where we discovered that it was just some stuck ball-bearings and would be no trouble to replace, but it DID mean that I would be bike-less for two days, boo.
4. My bike issues nearly made me late for the Spanish class I was teaching on Monday, which would have been okay except the secretary had locked herself out of her office and that was where the test booklets were, so guess who got to spend half an hour pulling stuff out of her ass for her students to revise with? (THANK GOD FOR PRINTABLES, Y’ALL.)
5. And all of that would have been much more manageable if I hadn’t dropped my phone and borked the screen Sunday. Now, in fairness, the screen was probably not long for this world anyway, my phone is a 5C (yep, you read that right) that I’m stubbornly clinging on to because every current phone seems to be made for Hagrid-sized hands. I’d LOVE to be able to upgrade (relatively) to an SE, but they’re not in production any more, alas.
6. Thankfully, the local repair shop was able to fix the phone for not very much money, especially compared to buying a new 6S, Being phone-less was actually pretty okay, especially since I had my computer and iPad, except…
7. A company I used to work for chose Monday to call me about an urgent, important translation project. Luckily I was able to sort it all out via email, and the project was doable even with the shorter deadline, but man. Talk about Murphy’s Law. It (mostly) paid for the screen replacement, though, so yay that!
8. And to top everything off, my grandma having a mild heart attack and needing to spend three days in the hospital and also have an angioplasty, which meant a) my Mom having to run about like mad and b) the family being even nuttier than usual. Grandma is absolutely fine, and driving us all up the wall by NOT RESTING, but. was still a not-fun couple of days.
Oh, and in the middle of all this, 9. I was also sick. Seriously, cosmos, let’s not have a repeat of this week, like… ever?
- The good thing about freelancing: you can set your own schedule. The bad thing about freelancing: you can set your own schedule, and thus wind up working weekends on a fairly regular basis despite never intending to. Ah well. At least things have progressed a little on the getting-me-to-France front. More details once ACTUAL progress is made.
- For any of my flist who are OMGCP fans: come play at
checkpleasefans, or
parsitive if you're a Kent fan. Bonus: a far lower population of idiot children than on Tumblr.
- Speaking of comms, does anyone have recs for icon comms? I have several free slots that need filling.
- IT IS SO GODDAMN HOT. Seriously, I'd forgotten how bad a Chennai summer can be after two years and change away. Mercifully between the air conditioning and the inverter it hasn't been TOO bad, but I'm dreading May.
- Benefit of taking last week off: I managed to make a dent in my Read Harder list. 8/24 so far, it would have been 9 but I refuse to count Chai Chai as a travel memoir when it's mostly a recounting of shitty booze drank.
Read a Debut Novel: The Star-Touched Queen, by Roshani Choksi (4.5 stars): OMG SO GOOD. Seriously. The writing is gorgeous and lyrical, the female characters complex and compelling, with well-drawn relationships between them, even the antagonists, and the plot draws from Indian mythology without being a tired reworking of a familiar tale. My only quibble is that the love story isn't as strong as it could be.
Read an LGBTQ romance: Mr. and Mr. Smith by HelenKay Dimon (4 stars): So for all I read a stupid amount of slash, I haven't, actually, read that many published M/M romances. This one was a good start - as the title suggests, it's about two spies who have to deal with the aftermath of their respective secret identities not being secret any more. I really liked that the characters went on a journey, and that while they were tough guys who weren't great at communication, neither were alphaholes or completely incapable of feeling things other than sexual desire. And the ending was flat out adorable.
- Remember I promised myself I was gonna go 100% ebook? Yeah, that ain't happening, because my mother is a terrible influence. I picked up A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas and Loitering with Intent by Ritu Menon.
- Good thing: Pens up 2-0. Less good thing: Having my only RL Hockey friend be a Caps fan so I can't even squee in peace. Le Sigh.
In which Tammy needs hugs. Lots of 'em.
May. 13th, 2011 09:39 pmI'd curl up in a ball and cry, except I don't think I have the time, much less the energy.
So, on that note, a little help cheering me up please? /puppy dog eyes/
Quote a bit of my fic (Numbers and HP/DC) at me? Find that one fic of mine that you really like, and find a sentence or a paragraph that presses your prose-buttons in the right way, and comment here with it? Don't care how long or short.

Ugh. RL has been eating me these past two weeks. Who knew holidays could be so draining?
Luckily, things seem to be calming down now. Except with free time comes a MASSIVE craving for girl!Colby. I would give my eye teeth for girl!Colby/Ian right now. (and medie, I know I haven't commented on a couple of the awesome commentfic you wrote me. /hangs head in shame/ I read and loved them, and squee will be landing in your inbox shortly, promise!)
So... link me, peeps. Girl!Colby. And if there's nothing to be had... prompt me, and I will write you fic. Because I want my bad-ass green-eyed soldier girl that. freaking. much.

Nov. 25th, 2010 10:40 amMy finals start tomorrow. Which means I need to study. Which would be MUCH easier without you giving me visuals of
Also? Please stop poking me about what would happen if (a fictional version of) Fred Phelps et al showed up at say, Andy's funeral. Or Colby's in Requeim verse. I have neither the time nor the energy to write the bloodbath that will ensue.
Love,
A very exasperated Tammy.

Internet on the blink, AGAIN.
Oct. 22nd, 2010 11:29 pmGoing to raise all kinds of hell tomorrow, but I'm not holding up hope of this getting fixed in time for chat. /sighs/
Hugs and good mojo would be MUCH appreciated.

That believing these things doesn't make me naive or delusional, that it's possible to live in this world and still be an idealist.
Because right now, I need some of my faith in humanity restored. And a hug. But I'm willing to settle for the latter.

General updates...
Jul. 10th, 2008 09:06 pm- I did a friends cut. Nothing major, just a few journals I hadn't commented on since forever and some comms I can't remember why I joined in the first place. If you're one of the people I talk to regularly and I've accidentally defriended you, drop me a line and I'll add you right back.
- I have a new Cancer layout, courtesy
gawariel_design. Come see, it's awesome and almost too pretty to be legal.
- Muses are kinda quiet, especially on the DC front. I have a few half-formed Numb3rs bunnies, some drabbles, some full-length, but nothing writeable yet.
- Speaking of Numb3rs... *kicks her local DVD place* You were supposed to get Seasons 3 & 4 BEFORE I got back from Hyderabad! WTF? This completely ruins my plans of spending my birthday curled up in bed with Colby.
...
OK, that came out completely wrong, but you know what I mean. Not that I'd be complaining, or anything, if Colby decided to show up on my birthday for real...
- My
rounds_of_kink fic is KICKING MY ASS. Part of the problem is that I can't decide who to pair up with Colby, Coop or Don. Rassum frassum pretty boys who won't let me choose between them...
- Speaking of pretty boys, there has GOT to be David/Charlie/Colby fic SOMEWHERE on the internet, yes? Please tell me there is. If not, my birthday is this Monday... /blatant begging
