Have any of you had the thing where you're trying to do something that Matters Desperately to you, only it's a really big thing so there's no actual chance of finishing any time soon, it's a matter of figuring out where you can pause, and you keep finding new things to do and also it affects other people but you don't know what you're doing?

And also the news is terrible and makes you want to cry?

That.

So I am going to talk about TV for five minutes!

The Americans )

The Good Wife )

Oh man, I have been Seeing Family and also playing with my new Sony Reader (which is beautiful! I am the most lucky) and eating ALL THE FOOD IN THE WORLD and I've barely even read any Yuletide and anyway that's why I've been off for, like, a week. *breathe*

But I got two BEAUTIFUL stories for Yuletide! OMG, people, when my name came up on the pinch-hitters list for the second year in a row I was half convinced I'd Broken Yuletide, but I hadn't. Instead, I got:

Invisible Steel, a Mad Men fic about Peggy and Joyce through their lives. Joyce and Peggy being fantastic and complicated and just, yay, ladies. *loves them*

Something Soft And Low, a story inspired by the Magnetic Fields song Drive On, Driver. You don't need to know the song to like the people and queer music culture postulated in this story, but it makes me very happy that the song now has a world.

I have also watched some Christmas telly, as is traditional.

Psych )

Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol )

But mooostly I went OMFG OMFG at the trailer for the new season of Who. I am seriously SO EXCITED about that, way more excited than I've been about Who in aaaages! I clapped, and laughed at the mental image of [livejournal.com profile] tellitslant falling off her chair at various bits. :D
Dear Yuletide Gift-giving Type Person,

Hi! So you got me for your recipient; I'd be freaking out too. But I hope you're not worrying too much, because I promise I am mostly very easy to please. If you love one of my teeeeny fandoms even half as much as I do, I'm sure you'll do fabulously. If you have fun, I can pretty much guarantee that I will too. I care far more that the story works for you than that it hits some pre-decided list of my likes. :)

If you want to know more about me, though, here's a little bit of blather.

me as a reader generally )

I've also gone into my requests in a bit more detail, just in case you'd find that helpful. There should be some further info on the relevant tag, as well. Um, hopefully. *can't remember*

Request 1, Mad Men )

Request 2, Making History by Stephen Fry )

Request 3, Psmith by PG Wodehouse )

Request 4, Magnetic Fields - Drive On, Driver )

There. If you've read that, Yuletide Gift-giver Person, then well done. And thankyou, in advance: just knowing that someone else out there really does like one of the teeny fandoms I love makes me so happy!

possibly slightly overexcitedly,
Katie
I warn the world, this is pretty long. :P I have finished season four of Mad Men and may just possibly be in the mood to geek.

Peggy )

Betty )

Don )

Joan )

Roger and everyone else )

I will probably think of other things too as soon as I've posted this, but yeah, I kind of love this show.

I am back from [livejournal.com profile] connotations and missing people muchly. I do not, however, have much to say about that beyond OMG wanting a fannish commune post-haste. (Hi, fannish people, I miss you A WHOLE BUNCH.) So here are the posts I said I was going to make about Mad Men. All, er, merged into one.

Predictions and their coming true )

...also, hey, I am way pleased I finally have a Peggy icon. :D
I have been busy having Actual Training this week! This is both good and slightly disconcerting, as it turns out that one person who will be doing training with me was in my year at primary school. Most o_O inducing!

Oh, and the other thing I have been doing, mostly, is watching more Mad Men. I'm...er... halfway through season 3. *hides* I may need an icon.

Spoilery thoughts for up through to 3.08 )

I really want to watch more, because the March on Washington and the Kennedy assassination must be coming right up. Eeee, show! Though twitter just asked if Don was now a Russian spy, so apparently I have surprises coming up. *g* My predictions are:

Other random linkage:

This parody of science journalism - plus comments! is both hilarious and ow-inducing.

This is an art project showing immigrants as superheroes. A little on the nose, possibly, but I found it genuinely moving.
Merlin )

Mostly, TV wise, I have been watching Mad Men, because - and I realise this puts me several years behind - it is actually excellent.

spoilery thoughts for up to 1x10 )
