Hi! I'm Dawn and I was born on the longest day of the year - I used to say "just ask my mom," but that's no longer possible. At least that explains my userid. I was born in Detroit right before the race riots...
OK, we'll start a little more recent. I used to be big into movies when I was in college, so I am just chock full of 20 year old movie quotes. Still try to get out and see SF movies. Mostly watch movies on DVD now, sadly.
College was the University of Michigan, and I earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from them. I worked in original equipment automotive paint research for 14.5 years before retiring to start a family. I still know how to take good care of car paint, so let me know if you have any concerns. In general, paint works best for your car when it is still stuck to your car. Don't laugh. It isn't a forgone conclusion, especially if your area has seagulls (and what area doesn't?).
Used to spend a lot of time training protection dogs for fun, too. It is a whole different world from the side/back of the dog than the front of the dog. I learned this when I did helper work for a police friend's K9 officer. They really do look impressive from the teeth end. You can learn quite a lot of gallows humor hanging out with cops for an extended period of time, so that surfaces every once and a while.
We have three kids 9, 7 and 6. One we grew ourselves, two from China. The oldest two are boys, the youngest a girl. They are a lot of fun, more fun than I could have imagined! Since our three kids fail to provide us with enough chaos and opportunity to spend time in the car driving to events, we host exchange students on a fairly regular basis.
When I'm not chief chauffeur and bottle-washer, I like to read (lots of) fiction. My new hobby is Tae Kwon Do; I started it for fitness, but I find that I enjoy hitting and kicking things more than I ever imagined. I listen to Nine Inch Nails to relax.
My favorite saying these days is "It is what it is." Because it is.
