slippery_fish: (Fallout - Lucy)
Really good episode. I loved seeing Norm in the world, seeing him interacting with people, kind of re-tracing Lucy's steps in a way. He has grown so much.

Lucy and the Ghoul – such a great storyline. Lucy losing herself to the drugs, her addiction making her worse as a person. The Ghoul betraying her – that scene was amazing.

I also really liked the flashback this time around. Cooper and House were so interesting together and I'm kind of fascinated with House. I also kind of ship them.

From the fucking toilet? )

Go to your Works page on AO3, look at the tags, and see what the answers to these questions are. (Or any other site that has tags)

1. What rating do you write most fics under?

General Audiences. I don't write sex scenes all that often and when I do, the are hardly ever explicit. Also, almost no explicit violence.

2. What are your top 3 fandoms?

Marvel, Buffy, The Social Network

3. What is your top character you write about?

Faith Lehane (Buffy)

4. What are the 3 top pairings?

Eduardo Saverin/Mark Zuckerberg (TSN)
Faith Lehane/Buffy Summers (Buffy)
Steve Rogers/Tony Stark, GQ Edwards/Waylon Jones, Bradley Bradshaw/Jake Seresin (MCU, DCEU, Top Gun)

There are a few & combinations that have more fics but I haven't put them in here for this meme.

5. What are the top 3 additional tags?

Triple Drabble
Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence
Post-Canon

6. Did any of this surprise you? e.g. what turned out to be your top tag.

TSN still being in my top three fandoms kinda surprises me. That was a crazy phase for me and while I did write them for my drabble project, I didn't think that fandom would end up this high.

I kinda missed Norm's storyline in this episode. But I really liked the reaction everyone had to the Legion. Their whole thing is so fucking stupid. But damn, Macaulay Culkin was great in his role and his character had some amazing lines.

And Thad! It was cool to catch up with him.

Also, war might be coming now. Congrats, Maximus.

I have no need for the thoughts of a sword. )

Lucy on drugs and the Ghoul's reaction to that was so interesting. It reveals such a reckless and dark side about her, and the Ghoul seem both to enjoy it and be disappointed by it.

Thad, Maximus and Dane also really had such a cool storyline. They are all products of the Brotherhood and they all act so differently with Dane probably being the one who is the most in control and has an idea of the bigger picture.

Just Ghouls, right? )

The Original X-Men will be in Doomsday?

I'm so behind on MCU news that I didn't know that but a part of me just went Squeeee!

No idea if there is any chance that they'll actually pull of such a huge cast but I'm absolutetely willing to see this at the movies.

Still need to catch up with so many shows and movies, though.

I finally killed off my diffeerent Twitter accounts and my Livejournal. With all this shit going on with AI and wtf-ever is going on with LJ right now, it just feels like the safer choice. But weird to simply end some accounts that had quite the history.

slippery_fish: (Fallout - Norm)
I really love where this show is going with Norm. Right now, I find his storyline the most exiting. He is clever and practical and manipulative when he has to. But I don't think he is as inconsiderate of people as his father is. But there are parallels between them, for sure.

I still don't have a handle on Maximus. Maybe he's just easily shaped by other people, maybe he just doesn't know himself yet. Both would make sense considering his upbringing.

I'm so out of the whole exchange scene, I forgot Yuletide fics are online. Not sure how I feel about that.
slippery_fish: (Fallout)
Fallout is baaaack!

I love this show.

Lucy is such a great character and I love her relationship with the Ghoul. The distrust, the disgust, the way they challenge each other. And them working together for now is so great to watch because it didn't make anything easier for them.

And Norm! Oh, I love Norm. I love how this meek guy grows braver and braver because he is under so much pressure that he can't be meek anymore.

Random thing I thought about while watching this ep: Being woken up as one of Bud's Buddies and suddenly having to face actual Vault life – a Vault life that has its own history now – must be so fucking strange. They were frozen either shortly before or after the attacks and have no clue about what has happened since then, they do not know this society and have to insert themselves into it.

Random ramblings about 2x01 under the cut. )
slippery_fish: (movies)
M3GAN 2.0: I really liked this for the relationship between Gemma and Megan alone. I mean, Megan literally being inside of Gemma and controlling her body? Damn. Also Megan's commentary on Gemma's sex life and what gets her hot... They really went there. I love that for this franchise.

Some seriously hilarious moments and some surprsingly good characterization for a franchise horror comedy. Cady's tendency to react violently is still there and that makes so much sense. Gemma and her new work and how lost she is into her work again even though it's something else this time. Her animosity toward Megan; the thing she made, the thing she failed to do correctly.

Also loved the way tech bros were portrayed. Two very different types but with both I was just thinking: Yep, that fits.

Jurassic World Rebirth: It's a solid action movie without much of an emotional impact but some cool characters. Loomis is righteous but not in an annoying way, and I loved how much he loved the dinosaurs. I also liked Xavier: he is an idiot but also brave and fun. And I was a big fan of Bennet being pragmatic as fuck. Dolores is such a cute gimmick but I'm not even sure what she was doing in this story, there was no point in having her. Also, some fun and some very tense moments.

Death of a Unicorn: This movie felt very random and uneven at times, the characters felt meaningless. Still, it had some really fun moments, especially with the staff and the rich family. The whole "unicorns fall over for Ridley"-thing has to be the shittiest survival strategy every portrayed in a movie and the "bring back the dead"-scene at the end was such bullshit. All in all, disappointing with some cool moments.

The matriarch of a rich family dies during family dinner. The house is isolated, snow cutting it off from the rest of the world. Other than the family, only three girls are around, each with their own reason to be there.

Told from three different POV, the novel covers the aftermath of the murder. Devi, Lizzie and Jayne make for good protags. Different voices and background, and they fit well into the story. Also, they only weren't unreliable narrators for the audience, the same goes for their relationships and what they told each other. That was fun.

I liked the setting of the first part of the book. That sprawling house with freaking secret passageways is so cool.

I kinda can imagine this a a YA Amazon show, I think it would be fun like this.
slippery_fish: (music)
I just came across Heather Nova's cover of Never Gonna Give You Up and I feel so confused right now. It just feels weirdly wrong?
slippery_fish: (slash)
The set-up of this one is kinda weird. One of the main protags is a 19-year-old who won the Stanley Cup in his first season. The other one is in his mid-twenties, doubting himself and his committent to hockey. And none of that tension plays into the story all that much because Tommy doesn't act like a 19-year-old and Noah never hates him or has issues with him because of the Cup.

He hates him because he injured his best friend Zed during a game. Which would have been a way better set-up if Tommy was a similar age and they had played against each other for quite a while. Like this, the age difference just feels like a random thing that has nothing to do with the story. Weird.

Also, Zed being both deaf and in a public threesome with two other guys from his own team felt … a bit too much.

Other than that, I actually quite liked this for what it is. Tommy and Noah are fun, and I liked how they slowly moved from hate sex to tense sex to rough sex with a lot of feelings. :D

The sex scenes were pretty hot, too. And there were a lot OF sex scenes. I kinda appreciate that with movies being pretty sexless theses days, books are are still bringing it.

The usual hockey m/m thing happened when toward the end, there wasn't any actual conflict regarding the relationship anymore. I'm still weirded out by that because it just feels like the pacing is off. But I didn't mind it too much with this one.

Taylor Swift's new album is out and it times for reddit/celeb gossip bubble to declare it the worst album ever - once again. I only started really listening to her music when Folklore/Evermore came out and nothing she is doing now will ever be that good again, I fear. But I usually find her very listenable. And since I'm not interested in the lore and don't over analyze her songs in regards to their connections to her real life, I don't get constantly pissed at her music for bullshit reasons. This new album is pretty fun with a few songs I really didn't like.

Decades after his best friend Billy vanished in the middle of the night, Ethan returns to the house where it all happened. Only to come face to face with people from the past, Billy's body finally being found and messages that might be sent by Billy himself.

A fast read with a good set of characters. I especially liked the take on childhood friendships and how complicated they can be.

I also seem to wise up on Sager's tactics. I kinda figured out most of the twists and the murderer before the end but I never mind something like that. It means that the lead-up is clear and that the author doesn't pull a reveal out of nothing.

Anton and Ezra can't stand each other. Ezra is the life of every party, likes attention and likes sex even more. And the idea of actually being with someone long-term is a bad one in his eyes. Anton is his oppositive, private and unwilling to share whoever he's with. They don't fit – until an one night stand and a trade brings them closer together.

I actually liked this way more than the previous book I read in this series. The push and pull between them was fun and while there wasn't much of a conflict, it felt like the issues these two had in regards to relationships, privacy and being out worked well enough to keep the book interesting. A light but fun read.
slippery_fish: (want to walk unafraid)
Sophie has enough of men, she has enough of the way they treat her and other women. So she shuts them up – by killing them.

Nora is a biracial cop fighting her way up to detective through the ranks of men who distrust her and are bitter about her success. She has enough of it all but still needs to solve the sting of murders that hit the town.

This one is very...interesting. And wordy. A ton of descriptions and metaphors. I would have liked that for a short story but with a novel, it became a bit too exhausting for me. I skipped past quite a few descriptions because I simply didn't care.

It's also advertised as being about the friendship between Sophie and Nora and the resulting cat and mouse game. And that...wasn't really there? Like, they are familiar with each other, they are friendly and that's it. I was disappointed by that because that was the main draw of the book for me, basically the reason I bought it.

The ending was very sudden and very open. I don't always mind open endings (I dislike them in horror movies because "the villain comes back at the end and cut" has been done too many times) but here it translated into losing the emotional fallout of the final murder before Nora realized what was going on. And that really didn't work for me.

If this was a set-up for more books, I would read them. But without a sequel that actually dives into the emotional turmoil and the conflict between these two women, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
slippery_fish: (internet is made for porn)
This is the second M/M hockey romance I read and maybe I'm already seeing a pattern? Because the actual conflict in the book lasts about 50 pages and then it's just 300 pages of sex and cuddling and everything heading toward the happy ending without much of a conflict and tension. The other novel I read worked in a similar vein so maybe that's just how that genre works? Not sure I'm much of a fan of that, to be honest. Reading something like this to just chill is a nice idea but I wouldn't want all the hockey novels I read to be like this.

Anyway, the main conflict of this one is basically that Parker, who was bullied by Connor in high school, is now a tech billionaire and buys the team Connor is playing for. And threatens his career and pretty much everything else.

I had to skip through some of the conflict because a bully who instead of getting his revenge by living well turning into a bully himself is not something I'm really into. Especially since Parker lacks all self-awareness and is basically just another tech bro being all “No one liked me at school but they have to bow to me now.” And I hate this type of guys.

Though I think I could have been more into it if he would have been the one with the possessive streak. Power differential + that could have been something pretty kinky and hot if played right.

But he isn't the possessive one and him being a bully just read uncomfortable. I was almost glad when the book suddenly went into the “Now they are friendly and cuddly” part even though it hardly made sense.

So yeah, a bit lacklustre and wasting an interesting (even if I didn't necessary like it) set-up for blahblah.
