( INVITE REQUESTS. )

Invite Requests

Invitation requests are currently: closed

Because I have a really specific vision for the kind of game I want to run and the sort of variety I want in the characters in the game, in addition to my own limited time, compatibility is a high priority. Because of this, and also the general desire to keep things quieter and semiprivate, Silent Spring effectively has a two-step application process.

Because my friendlist on plurk is really small, the majority of players enter through invite requests. Consider an invite request as your player application and your app as your character application. We're half a year into the game and this process has worked really well for us so far!

Even if you have to drop the game, as long as you leave in good standing, your invite remains for the lifetime of the game, and there will always be a spot for you even if we're at cap!

This page is where you can request an invite if you are not on a mod friendlist. Requesting an invite does not automatically entitle you to one even if a slot is open, and admission is not guaranteed. Characters are selected based on level of effort put in by the player, past player behavior ooc, setting suitability, three-dimensionality of portrayal, writing samples, balance of personalities/specialties/occupations in game, and assorted other criteria. Not having anything "wrong" with your character and not having a background with poor ooc behavior isn't enough on its own to warrant an invite, it's the bare minimum.

You must toplevel or thread (5+ comments) on the TDM with the character you plan on apping to request an invite. We want to see your character engaging with this setting!

This is for the time being, at least, a very small game. I am in the difficult position of wanting to offer my time/effort modding to people outside of a small circle of friends while also needing to keep the game small enough to run for a prolonged period of time even during rough periods of life so that I don't have to close it. Most of us now are older and work full time—I do—and only taking the same number of invite requests as there are slots would mean that who gets into the game would just be who is lucky enough to have free time to be in the first however many requests get submitted—and some people, like laboratory workers (me) and laborers or people in workplaces protected by HIPAA, can't always have our phones on us.

That means that people are going to have to be declined and told no even if they're good writers and nice people ooc. If you can't handle rejection in an appropriate manner or react very poorly to it, you should not apply. By requesting an invite, you're accepting that the answer may be "no".

It's a complicated issue and I'm sure there are people who would do it differently, but this is what I feel is the most reasonable, manageable, and fair way to do it. By applying for an invite, you're agreeing to play by these rules, even if they mean you don't get in this round or possibly in other rounds.

Unfortunately I do not have the amount of time necessary to be able to have a conversation with every person who gets rejected about the specific reasons they/their character were not a good fit for this game. Because of this, declined invites will be generic. They don't mean that I'm saying you're not good enough, that you're a bad writer, etc, just that you as a player with a unique playstyle and preferences and/or your character weren't a good match for a very specific environment.

If you're okay with this process, fill out the form below and drop it in a screened comment!

Plurk, if you have one:
Any references ingame? Other players who can vouch for you. This is like a +1.
What character(s) do you intend to bring? Please provide a 1-paragraph synopsis of them and their canon. You may not link a wiki, and please try to avoid canon-specific jargon. You may list a second character that would sort into a different role.
What elements of the game are you most interested in engaging with?
How will your character integrate into the setting? How do you see them dealing with life in Sweetwater? What are your plans for them in this game?
Have you ever been prebanned or banned from a game? Why? This does not automatically rule you out - but dishonesty in your answer does. If there are strikes against you, this is your chance to explain your side of the story.
What do you bring to the table as a player in a community of RPers creating a shared storyline?
TDM toplevel and/or thread link:
Tell us a little about yourself! What are your interests, what kind of player are you, etc!

Do you understand that there is a risk of being rejected, and that mods do not have the time necessary to detail the reasons every player was declined and have conversations about it; i.e., that if you are rejected the response will by necessity be generic and not open to questions, with no exceptions? Will you handle a possible rejection maturely and without tearing the game/mod down elsewhere?
