So, I, uh, got my RSI/ergonomics debugged!* I then promptly lost two days to bad sleep due to another new mechanical failure of the balky meat mecha and also a medical appointment in re two previous malfunctions. But I seem back in business now. The new keyboard is great.

Patrons, I've got three Siderea Posts out so far this month and it's only the 12th. I have two more Posts I am hoping to get out in the next three days. Also about health insurance. We'll see if it actually happens, but it's not impossible. I have written a lot of words. (I really like my new keyboard.)

Anyways, if you weren't planning on sponsoring five posts (or – who knows? – even more) this month, adjust your pledge limits accordingly.

* It was my bra strap. It was doing something funky to how my shoulder blade moved or something. It is both surprising to me that so little pressure made so much ergonomic difference, and not surprising because previously an even lighter pressure on my kneecap from wearing long underwear made my knee malfunction spectacularly. Apparently this is how my body mechanics just are.

I'm glad you figured it out. Given your surprise.. are you familiar with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

You likely have considered this already, but I'm going to type it anyway, just in case. I hope it won't be too annoying if so.

What you relate sounds much like what we were going through with P, but a physical thing rather than a brain thing, before we finally got a diagnosis that made sense -- but the action that allowed us to get that diagnosis was joining a research study where recently-trained clinicians spent HOURS with P, doing tests and such, for no cost to us because funded research.

Any time I speak with anyone who has a friend/loved one who keeps getting multiple dx that don't make sense, I suggest they find a research study in whatever relevant field, because it can be helpful to have more than X minutes with a clinician, etc, etc. Of course, traveling to such studies can be a bear... but there is often money given as well.

I'm glad you figured it out! ^_^

Ugh, bras.

I had to quit wearing bras altogether 5 years ago or 7 years ago when I realised 30 minutes of bra wearing to try on new clothes in a shop = 3 or 4 days of neck/shoulder agony.

When I was 16 or 17 years old, my physiotherapist at the time (who was a woman with very small breasts compared to mine) kept trying to persuade me to get a surgical breast reduction for my neck/shoulder pain - turns out she should have been telling me to quit bras. (She was very modest/proper/conservative/religious and would never have recommended quitting bras, even tho it was the best thing I could have done, then or now.)

Glad you’re able to write again! You bring a systematic debugging and creative experimentation approach to dealing with bodily stuff that feels unusually effective. I don’t know if it could be taught, but it seems like a skill that a lot of people would benefit from. Dunno if you might put it on your list of possible topics to write about someday.
