wind whirls and unexpected squirrels
Jul. 31st, 2020 07:43 amWe had the craziest storm last night. Right around midnight lightning was suddenly flashing everywhere, thunder was BOOMING, the wind began howling, and it started to rain incredibly hard. About thirty minutes later, everything abruptly stopped. I think it must have been July saying, "Enough already with this heatwave!", because this morning it's 74* and not 94*. It's a bit drizzly and still wiltingly humid, but I'm going to enjoy the change as long as it lasts.
The storm was apparently strong enough to open a rift in the continuum, because I looked out back just now and there was a coal-black squirrel sitting in the grass. In three years I've only *ever* seen gray ones, so this was quite a rare sighting. He/she was about twice the size of the usual squirrels, too. I'll hope for another sighting when I can snap a picture. Have you ever looked outside and spotted something you've never seen before?
My big thrill yesterday was taking apart a flashlight, cleaning out a bunch of old battery corrosion, putting it back together, and... it works again! I'm always absurdly pleased to take care of something myself, no matter how minor (such as refilling oil or windshield wiper fluid in the car). I'm still getting used to living alone and realizing that I'm completely responsible for everything. It's nearly six months since Shiremom passed, which doesn't seem possible.
I hope everyone is well. Watch out for inter-dimensional creatures, and enjoy nice weather if you have it!
