After record-breaking pre-sales and months of growing anticipation, the moment has finally arrived! On 8 July 2026, “Top of the World Tree: An Exhibition of Ancient Civilizations of the Americas” officially opened at the Shanghai Museum, marking a major cultural milestone alongside the commencement of the 37th Shanghai Tourism Festival Summer Tourism Season. The opening ceremony welcomed Mr. Zhao Jiaming, Member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department, and nearly 300 distinguished guests from China and around the world. Mr. José Luis Perea González, Deputy Director General of Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History; H.E. Carlos Vásquez Corrales, Ambassador of Peru to China; and Mr. Chu Xiaobo, Director of the Shanghai Museum, delivered opening addresses celebrating the power of cultural exchange and international collaboration. NEON is honoured to present one of the exhibition's centrepieces, Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru, in partnership with the Shanghai Museum and the Larco Museum in Peru. Featuring 325 priceless artefacts, including 116 treasures leaving Peru for the very first time, the exhibition is the largest Andean civilization-themed exhibition ever presented in China and one of the most significant international showcases of Andean gold and silver artefacts. Visitors will also embark on an extraordinary immersive journey through the award-winning VR experience, Machu Picchu and the Spirit of the Condor, bringing the majesty of the ancient Andes vividly to life.
