2021 Update/Overview + Permissions
Jun. 22nd, 2021 01:06 pmIt's been a few years since I used this journal regularly, but I've still played the character outside of Dreamwidth which means she's evolved a little since the Entranceway days!
Name: Selene
Age: Hard to say, early 20s?
Gender: Sister
Wiki Link: Bioshock Wiki Article on Big Sisters!
Personality: Very aggressive, especially about whatever she's decided to protect. In canon settings, this especially extends to Cindy Meltzer (though she loves all of her Little Sisters and god help you if you hurt them) and Eleanor Lamb (mostly out of duty). She distrusts adults, especially parents and authority figures, especially parents and guardians she feels are failing their children, and her standards for this are very narrow. She tends to only speak to her wards or whoever she has been convinced to take orders from (Sofia Lamb, basically), and violence is her go-to method of problem solving. Your best bet is to convince her of your dedication to help children/her wards, especially whoever she's most dedicated to, especially if you catch her in a moment where her ward needs more nuanced help than she can provide.
When she's not working, Selene remains serious and tends to take things at face value. Jokes soar right over her head. She's not stupid, just very, very focused on the words. Selene has put her mission over herself to the point where she seems to be at a loss when she's not in her armour, tending to sit quietly while watching her Sisters play. She does hold an interest in puzzles and codes, but she is uncomfortable 'indulging' in her interests when there's more important things to concern herself with.
In a fight, she's very one-track-minded, relying on overpowering her opponent through force. Also, and this goes without saying, really, but if she catches you harming or threatening a child, she will come after you.
Appearance: In armour, basically what you see in the icons and the wiki.
Outside of the armour, she is ghostly, sickly pale, almost green in places. Her hair is nearly white under the grime and cut roughly to about chin-length, and it's a tangled, frizzy mess from a life in saltwater and sweat. She is six foot ten, her eyes are yellow and glowing, and when she speaks, there's a strange overlay to her voice, not unlike a Little Sister... Just with a young woman's voice as the base. (They're a little harder to understand in armour!)
Abilities:
Telekinesis - she can pick up and throw things around with her mind, including adult men and large pieces of debris, and can throw them at deadly speeds
Pyrokinesis - she can create and throw fireballs, blasts of fire, etc etc
Regeneration - ADAM is the source of her powers and what makes Little Sisters nearly immortal, however, as a Big Sister this process has slowed down enough that she can be put down with enough successive damage. To counter that, she can drain the blood of a splicer during a fight to patch herself up.
Telepathy - strictly between herself Little Sisters, and maybe Big Sisters as well. (This is based a little bit on what Eleanor does throughout the game, and also how I rationalize some of the messages left for Mark during Something in the Sea)
Teleportation - theoretically, and again based on Eleanor (and rationalizing how they get to you so quick after the last sister), but Selene doesn't make much use of this and I'll likely entirely forget about it in alternate settings
Not sure if this counts as an ability/power, but she can walk/swim at the bottom of the ocean with no trouble from the pressure? And of course, being stupidly strong and agile.
In Other Settings
Outside of Bioshock settings, I play Selene as a grim, silent warrior type, ready to snap into violence at the first opportunity. If she's guarding someone or taking orders from them, then she is fiercely loyal and very aggressive in her protection of them, though she will listen if told to hold back.
In settings that allow for powers, I prioritize giving her telekinesis and regenerative abilities if having her full spread is too much. In any setting that allows for children with magic powers (or, subjected to experiments for superpowers or lab-grown for special abilities), she tends to be one of those if they escaped and/or were discarded and left to grow up on their own, and carries resentment to anyone resembling her former authority or guardian figures. She's either working for a cult, trying to scrape by on her own after losing everything, or trying to carve out a space with others like her, depending on what makes a more interesting story for the prompt or setting!
Overall: If you're not sure, message me! I view RP as fun story collaboration so I'm happy to work towards playing out something interesting, even if that means making Selene the bad guy, or dialling her back for fairness!
OOC
Backtag: yes, whether that's replying to a thread that's been on pause for a month, or if you found an old top level in a meme from weeks ago
Reminders: If it's been a week and I haven't got back to you, you're welcome to give me a poke! Sometimes time just slips right by, so it's good to get a reminder!
Threadjacking: only if it's something loose and borderline meta like a texting meme, truth or dare meme, askreddit meme, etc. Anything longform, I'd prefer you asked first!
Tag Revision: If you need a better hook or if I get a detail wrong, message me and I'll work out an edit!
IC
Injury/Illness/Death: If you want to do something dramatic to Selene, or want her to do something dramatic to you, let me know so I can take the scene there! Otherwise, I tend to assume any attacks are near-misses or nonthreatening (up to your discretion), and anything landed on Selene will heal quickly.
Mind Reading: Her thoughts are a clutter of wordless anger and suspicion, with underlying pain deep down under it all. Probably feels like gently patting a sea urchin. And, of course, whatever you want to take from my tag's narration! Message me if you'd like more details/specific answers!
Physical Affection/Touching at all: I'm fine with it, but unless you are a child or she trusts you a lot, Selene will not react well.
Flirting: You can try, but it'll go over her head if you're lucky, and just annoy her if you're not.
Sex: She's not interested.

True Facts About The Big Sister
Sep. 4th, 2019 11:15 pmThis will be big and fancy later but the short version:
CHILDREN
Where she's from, aside from finding little girls to become new Little Sisters, Big Sisters are also tasked with protecting and caring for them when there aren't any adults or Big Daddies to do so. If a Big Daddy falls, and/or a Little Sister disappears, she runs out to find them and either bring the Sister back or avenge her.
For other characters, this means:
- If you are a girl about 10 and under and unattended she will conclude that you have been abandoned by your awful parents/protectors and will decide to take you away to be a better guardian than them. Basically she will adopt you as her little sister, even if you're not a Little Sister.
- If you are 10-13ish girl, she'll be more hesitant about it, but if you're distressed or explicitly in need of protection she will adopt you then, too. That's about the age when she was abandoned by her Protector, and that motivates her to ensure the same does not happen to another girl that age.
Boys in the same bracket are... *waggles hand*. You can't make boys into Little Sisters, but I can stretch her logic to include any small child, depending on the setting.
PHYSICAL DETAILS
- She has a super long needle attached to her left arm, mainly used for stabbing, sometimes used for draining blood
- She is really strong and fast
- She's apparently about seven feet tall.
- She can move things with her mind (including people) and throw fireballs
- She tends to react with violence first
She looks like this* and sounds like this
(However, with her helmet off and her mood more calm, she speaks, and like the Little Sisters, her voice has a weird overlay-echo thing going on. Only the base voice is that of a young woman, instead of a little child)
(mostly she just screams and yells though)
(*- in
entranceway she's taken the basket off unless otherwise noted, since there are no children to abduct)

May. 25th, 2014 01:19 pmOPT OUT
SO. I'm playing this Big Sister character, who is a little on the feral side. She also is EXTREMELY protective of little girls.
Basically, let me know here if:
- You want me to not throw in stupid typos when she speaks in text
I generally have her do that because:
1. she is kind of feral and is used to communicating either telepathically to Little Sisters, or through grunts and screams and gestures, or sometimes (because I imagine she has to report to adults now and then), minimal, broken words. Writing and typing is rare for her to do.
2. Technically from 1968, but the city she's been living in was isolated from the rest of the world since about the early 50s. While there were crazy technological advancements in there anyway, a tiny phone you can text on is not one of those things. Also she has big hands and doesn't take her gloves off to text normally, so when she types Shye missese a few keysz herEA nd there. I can understand this getting incredibly annoying though, so if you'd rather I curb the typos and random capitalizations, drop me a comment here. I can cut it out entirely, or keep it to like one or two typos per comment!
- You want me to stay away from your child character
As detailed over here, being disconnected from her home and Sisters has given Big Sister here this bad habit of immediately scooping up and adopting/being overprotective of any girl under 14 she sees.
If you'd rather I not immediately jump into your post with a character in that description, let me know here! Or at the very least, if you want her to not permanently adopt your character (but interact now and then), we can work something out.
- You want me to not totally go nuts on your character
I'll always ask permission before she attacks people, I'll say that right now. But she's a little... Well her emotional flowchart is basically:
Feeling something??
Do I understand it -> no -> BE MAD AND BREAK THINGS
v
yes ->Am I angry? -> yes -> BE MAD AND BREAK THINGS
v
no -> Am I sad? -> yes -> BE MAD AND BREAK THINGS
v
no -> Am I happy? -> yes -> THROW THINGS AROUND AND DRAW ON STUFF AND ADOPT SISTERS AND STAB BAD PEOPLE!!!! (✿ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
v
no -> BE MAD AND BREAK THINGS
so yeah, if you in general want to avoid Big Sister, or at least want a head's up before she flips out (or avoid it entirely I guess?) let me know here.
PERMISSIONS
Under construction at the moment but I generally will try to ask about anything more extreme than screaming and yelling before I do them!
Offhand though, she's got telekinesis and sure as heck ain't afraid to use it, so chances when she gets mad at you in a thread she'll try to throw you or throw something at you. If that's cool or not cool, let me know here!

TRACKING ADOPTED SISTERS
May. 25th, 2014 01:18 pmLittle Sisters were little girls, between the ages of 5 and 8 normally, who were implanted with sea slugs to make a genetic drug called ADAM. They're normally protected by giant armoured things called Protectors or Big Daddies. Big Sister is what happens when a Little Sister grows up - she no longer is watched over by a Protector, but she doesn't need one.
Big Sister's job is to take care of the Little Sisters. Big Sisters seem to play and spend time with the girls when they're not gathering ADAM, but more importantly, Big Sisters step in when the Big Daddies fall. When a Protector falls, or if a Little Sister is out without one, or if a Little Sister is captured, the Big Sister will arrive and kill just about everything that could threaten the little girl. And if that Little Sister is dead (or cured and gone)... Well, she'll kill everyone in the area anyway.
This Big Sister was also tasked with finding girls on the surface and kidnapping them to be turned into Little Sisters in Rapture. Of course, she doesn't see that as a bad thing - being a Little Sister is great!
In Entranceway, there currently aren't any Little Sisters - however, habits die hard. When she comes across a girl in either of these categories, chances are high that she's going to adopt them.
This can also be counted as an Adoption Sign-Up sheet, just leave a comment and Big Sis will get to you as soon as possible ;)
ABANDONED GIRLS
10-14 (usually), girls who are older than Little Sisters are, but are at the age when Little Sisters tend to get abandoned by their Protectors. Traveler sympathizes with that since that's what happened to her, though proving herself better than Protectors or parents is certainly motivation for adopting these girls.

LITTLE SISTERS
9 and under, generally. They remind the Traveler of the Little Sisters, so on sight (especially alone), she will track them down and keep watch over them personally, closer than the older Sisters. Spends more time with them, gives them rides in her basket, and god help you if you try to take them away from her
