sabeth: Lord of the Rings: Gandalf in front of a mountain range ([lotr] and miles to go)
aka "trying to finally get through it" read for me and partial re-read for [personal profile] lian. Come join us if you like!

We're skipping Ainulindalë & Valaquenta and will start with chapter 1 of the Quenta Silmarillion (aka "Elves Are Dicks", as lian assures me) instead. Pace is gonna be relaxed; I'll try for a chapter per week. Let's see how this goes. :D

Apologies if you're seeing this twice or thrice (ah, crossposting ...) but [community profile] yuletart sign-ups close at the end of today and apparently they're a little low on sign-ups, which is problematic for everyone prompting/hoping to claim in smaller fandoms. Like me, cough. So if you draw or paint or craft, please consider signing up. Any skill level, any fandom. It was a really fun fest when I took part in 2009 and I hope it will be again this year.

Zombies, Run! & TW 2.12

Oh good, the internet is writing Zombies, Run! fanfiction already. I keep saying it, but internet, you're the best.

Context: Zombies, Run! is a running app/audio drama that places you squarely in the zombie apocalypse. You're Runner 5, out collecting supplies for your base and evading zombies. (Once you're done running, you can assign & use the collected supplies to level your base's buildings.)

Now, I hate running on pavement, but I love zombie apocalypse scenarios more than I hate running on pavement, and I'm firmly convinced that gamifying your entire life is the path to success. Exercise plans aside, though, ZR really works as an audio drama. I only just ran Mission 2 and listened to a bit of the radio show, but I'm already invested in the characters (Sam = Joker, y/y? Also, Jack and Eugene = post-apocalyptic roadtrip boyfriends, and I think that one's actually canon.) and wanting to go run again so I can advance the plot.

The Teen Wolf season finale, on the other hand, was a bit disappointing. I thought 2.11 was really fantastic, so I was looking forward to 2.12, but its entire pacing felt off, kind of like half the episode was missing. (Granted, Teen Wolf pacing is difficult to get used to in general. The seasons just seem too short to accommodate the character arcs, Allison's s2 arc being perhaps the worst example so far.)

quick spoilerfree ME3 ending reaction

I finished up ME3 just five minutes ago. No DLC; I wanted the original ending experience for my first playthrough. I feel ... odd. Endings are never much fun when you've become attached to something, but this one really was kind of rough. I don't think I hated it; I think it's possible I actually kind of liked it but I really can't tell yet. My poor heart.

I might write more once I can make sense of all these feelings, and I'm sure I also have some actual thoughts about the game, but I'm just -- these games. So much love. So many hours spent on them and all well spent. I really loved my Shepard, her freckles and her hips, her awkward dancing and slightly inappropriate drinking, her friendships with Tali and Liara and James, her lingering feelings for Kaidan and her tender, awkward, genuine relationship with Garrus. I'll miss watching all of that unfold for the first time.
