My brain.  I made the mistake of working on the wrong story before bed, and sometime last night I woke up from a nightmare where a serial killer was stalking me.  (I am not always fond of the dreams I get with plot, backstory, etc.  Including this one.) I woke up from this one because first the guy was stalking me, way too fucking efficiently, and then there was this almost... lightheaded sensation of every friendly character I routinely write suddenly spreading out through the area, checking every nook and cranny as they went.  When they were done, the (multiple, at least four) serial killers were gone and someone -- Matthew, I think, but I wasn't really awake -- told me, "We've got it, all clear.  Go back to sleep."  And I did, and slept fine.

Which is not the first time I've had characters sort out a nightmare for me, or a headache, or give better advice than I was managing just then. ::amused:: I suspect the characters are my own sensible side and/or strengths surfacing, but man, times like last night, I do not care.  I'm just grateful to have something that works.

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by ... some of them are golden only because we let them slip by. - James Matthew Barrie,

Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who only dream by night. - Edgar Allen Poe

I often warn people: Somewhere along the way, someone is going to tell you, 'There is no "I" in team.' What you should tell them is, 'Maybe not. But there is an "I" in independence, individuality and integrity.' - George Carlin
