Really good episode. I loved seeing Norm in the world, seeing him interacting with people, kind of re-tracing Lucy's steps in a way. He has grown so much.

Lucy and the Ghoul – such a great storyline. Lucy losing herself to the drugs, her addiction making her worse as a person. The Ghoul betraying her – that scene was amazing.

I also really liked the flashback this time around. Cooper and House were so interesting together and I'm kind of fascinated with House. I also kind of ship them.

Today's writing project: The Daryan-in-prison sequel to Sonata. I have a rough draft, I have thoughts, I just need to sit down and start writing on it. Someone come yell at me in ~8 hours to see if I did that.

I also have at least three fills I could be working on for the kink meme and a couple I never crossposted here. So if I'm going to procrastinate on the sequel, I can do it with that.

(For anyone who saw the Snowflake post yesterday: this, too, is part of the creative process. Just Sit Down And Do It.)

Meme from [personal profile] snickfic

Go to your Works page on AO3, look at the tags, and see what the answers to these questions are. (Or any other site that has tags)

1. What rating do you write most fics under?

General Audiences. I don't write sex scenes all that often and when I do, the are hardly ever explicit. Also, almost no explicit violence.

2. What are your top 3 fandoms?

Marvel, Buffy, The Social Network

3. What is your top character you write about?

Faith Lehane (Buffy)

4. What are the 3 top pairings?

Eduardo Saverin/Mark Zuckerberg (TSN)
Faith Lehane/Buffy Summers (Buffy)
Steve Rogers/Tony Stark, GQ Edwards/Waylon Jones, Bradley Bradshaw/Jake Seresin (MCU, DCEU, Top Gun)

There are a few & combinations that have more fics but I haven't put them in here for this meme.

5. What are the top 3 additional tags?

Triple Drabble
Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence
Post-Canon

6. Did any of this surprise you? e.g. what turned out to be your top tag.

TSN still being in my top three fandoms kinda surprises me. That was a crazy phase for me and while I did write them for my drabble project, I didn't think that fandom would end up this high.

Challenge #7

LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good. Feel free to expand as much or as little as you want.

This is kind of difficult for me, and I don't know if these are OK answers, but here goes:

1. I'm dependable at my job, to the point that a coworker said they were a bit worried the day I was late. (Things were fine, I just overslept.)

2. I'm responsible with my credit card. (Sticking to my budget, and making sure I pay my bill on time.)

3. I still have the will to go on, no matter how much I feel that the world sucks right now.

1.) I am so good at making cheesecake. Cheesecake is finicky and I can make it turn out pretty much every single time. Granted, I have a lot of easy recipes (King Arthur Baking's chocolate cheesecake is my favorite and the one I usually default to), but I'm still proud of it.

2.) I can give cats medication! Pills, liquids, eye drops, ear drops, gel, you name it, I have given it to a cat that wanted to maul me about it. Which I think is a pretty impressive skillset for someone who is not remotely in a veterinary field and has no training. I had my cat Prowl for ten years, and she needed lots of meds for five of those years; she was also semi-feral, not particularly food motivated, opposed to getting meds in any form, and an automatic sedation at the vet for everybody's safety. So the fact that I reliably got meds into her at home by myself for five years is worth celebrating, I think.

3.) I write good :D Sure, some of it is a matter of personal taste and most of what I write is tailored to me specifically, but still, I think my writing's pretty good! And maybe more on the topic of this post, I can always come up with something to write. I have half a dozen ideas living in my head at any given time, and I think that's fantastic.

Challenge #7: Three (or more) things you like about yourself

This is hard. I am actually pretty comfortable with and positive about myself these days, but when I try to think about specific things I like about myself, my mind goes blank. Hmm.

Okay, I think I've got three )

I have just been so exhausted the last couple of days, it's been kinda hard to focus on anything once I get home. I wanna write, but my focus is out the window. I wanna read, but my brain doesn't want to sit with the words for too long before a distraction pops in.

Billion dollar question is what is causing it? Is it the non-stop bad news? Is it the fact it's so damn dark when I get home? Is it because I'm coming down with a cold? Is it depression? Is it secretly all the above?

honestly, wouldn't be too surprised lol

1) [community profile] threeforthememories is off to a great start! You have until January 24th to make your own post. I made mine today about my 2025.

2) Speaking of things to rec, saw the film House of Dynamite and thought it was wonderfully done –- except for the ending. Read more... )

I do think that its structure was helpful, given that just 10 minutes in there is a lot starting to go on, and it helped to have it reinforced with repeated elements.

3) Another yes from me was for the series The Beast in Me. This is mostly because I thought it was particularly well done. I'm not a big fan of the murderous husband/neighbor type thriller because they're always guilty and one of my DNW is gaslighting elements. But I thought this was a particularly well developed story and one with less "shocking twist!" than unexpected surprises that relate to character development.

4) The documentary about the making of Frozen 2 was very interesting, and rather surprising, in seeing how Disney approaches making an animated film. I'd think that -- given the costs and enormous amount of labor -- they would have a script nailed down before starting. And not just a draft, but one that had been run past the internal focus groups, had a table reading done by the cast, etc. Instead they scrapped tons of work from animators, some of which took them a year, because they kept veering back and forth on elements of the story, rewriting the central songs, etc. Read more... )

5) The re-release of the Beatles Anthology on Disney+ promised a new episode and remastered footage. It certainly looked very good, but as I'd seen it during its 1990s release, I noticed more about the big gaps in it. Read more... )

After spending large parts of December getting behind and catching up and getting behind and catching up... I finished Zevachim two days early. The power of bamos! ;) On to Menachos!

My notes behind cut.

We're also about a year and a half out from the end of this cycle, which means I have already gotten one gentle "hey, do you know where you'll be on June 7, 2027"-type email from an org. No, I do not think this is too early, actually. Gotta make plans. Deeply hoping I can avoid being involved in organizing the in person thing here, but I have a suspicion that if I'm not involved, it may end up as unwelcoming as the women's siyum hashas I went to at the end of the last cycle. (I do trust a couple of the people likely to attend it, but I don't know who is going to be organizing anything here. So I may need to try to get involved against my will.) It wasn't actually that bad overall -- aside from how it's still, y'know, memorable 6 years removed from it -- but I am quite frankly more willing to get into an airplane and fly to a different city than go through that again. (okay more realistically if it ends up organized by a group I do not trust at all, I'd zoom in to a larger event and be done with it)
