She/They. I go by J or if you'd rather just use my username that's fine. My old username was "odogoddess" just so there is no confusion if you came from another link and/or were looking for old fic. I don't know if I will write any more fanfic, aside from some sequels I still have sitting around in various states of completion. Yes, I'm aware my website died; it may or may not return. Blame AI.
Since twitter-now-X developed a powerfully Musk-y pong, and fecking Tumblr (and Word Press) sold out their customer base, you can now find me on Mastodon and bluesky and here, basically. Still lurking on X, though, in case the Musk-y stench ever clears. I also have an instagram account although I'm not much of a picture taker and I dislike it's attachment to FB.
I do not have nor wish to have a Facebook or LinkedIn or Meta or Threads (et al) account, so please do not send friending requests for those sites, however, I thank you for thinking enough of me to ask. You don't have to ask to friend me or unfriend me. I won't ask and it won't bother me or offend me if you do. If we know one another from another forum, especially if you have a different screen name here, do let me know.
So you want to know about me? Well, I was born and raised and lived in Arizona for the first 30 years of my life. I was a respiratory therapist and intended to go on with school and become an anaesthesiologist, but life and my body had other plans. Increasing bouts of illness and baffling health issues were eventually diagnosed as autoimmune disorders (primary fibromyalgia, mild lupus) that forced me out of my chosen career far earlier than anticipated. So I turned to writing and research which is/was applied to various endeavours. I do love writing and enjoy fandom, but have little time for either, atm. Even less so since I was recently (Dec '23) diagnosed with cancer which explained a lot of other issues I had developed. I've had countless tests and procedures, one major surgery, and am undergoing radiation therapy atm, in my fight against this fecker.
I'm legally married to the beautiful chazpure whom I met via fandom through our mutual love for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. We were married by a minister in front of family, friends and the God/dess on 30 March 2002 (what we consider our "real" wedding, but before there was a legal option) and thanks to a brief grace period in our state when it was permitted, we tied the knot officially on 8 August 2008 (it's on a different journal because I didn't have a dw account until the following year). Then Prop 8 happened. For five years we were one of only 18,000 legally married gay couples in California, until the Supreme Court granted gays marriage equality throughout America. Yes, we celebrate both anniversaries, a little differently but we definitely note them both. This year (2024) we celebrate our 16th legal wedding anniversary as well as the 22nd anniversary of our first wedding and, well, it's quite something to be able to say that!
My lovely spouse and I lived in California for over two decades and had decided on moving closer to our mothers if either needed us around. Sadly, Chaz's mom passed away unexpectedly in 2017. Mine caught Covid-19 right before she could get vaccinated and she nearly died. Thankfully, she recovered after some stressful months during which Chaz and I lived in a hotel nearby, but once it became clear Mom has long covid (along with just being elderly and frail) and needs help with her day to day, we got an apartment a few minutes from her and my brother. He also had the covid while my mother did, but thankfully did not have a severe case. When we finally sold my mom-in-law's place we decided to buy a house big enough for all of us and were (are!) still in the process of renovation when I found out I had fecking cancer. Bleah...
While we miss California and our old digs, it's nice being near family and much easier to deal with issues that inevitably crop up, which they do. I was being run ragged for a few years and now life has told me I really need to slow down. (excuse me while I try to stop laughing)
We still share many dreams, lots of laughter, gossip, wonderful gluten-free food (I have coeliac and Chaz is mildly gluten-intolerant), Netflix binge nights, reading, music, bargain hunting, planning/coordinating, one bratty dingbat cat and one chirpy lovebug cat, and an obsession with quirky films and series, sci-fic/fantasy, fandom in general, and outrageously sexy men—especially David Tennant, Oscar Isaac, and the far-too-tasty-for-his-own-good, Alan Rickman. (He's really not dead as long as you remember him, as dear Bones McCoy once said.)
In the mists of fandom history, Chaz and I used to write fic and run
snapelyholidays and I ran
bottomsnape. I still run a tiny DS9 mailing list on io (remember those? it's how my beloved and I met). If you like DS9 and/or the actors and want info on them, on upcoming trek cons or reviews of books/episodes and occasional general Trek info, or if you'd like to share your own related info, you're welcome to check it out: 9-anon Yes, it's been suggested I change the name but my group had that name long before the Qanon-ites did. Speaking of which, I strongly suggest everyone take the Spot the Troll quiz to see how good you are at recognizing real people vs. bots.
While I do like to hear what the latest asshattery going on is about, I generally avoid wars in fandom and people that like arguing in all walks of life when I can. I don't have the time or energy to waste on it and now I don't have the health.
Note: I am aware of the JKR controversy, however the universe she created developed a life of its own well beyond her reach, long before she drank the FoolAde. In that universe I made many wonderful friends and am not ashamed of the time we joyfully spent in it. My current feelings about it are ambivalent at best, but I won't remove the images or references here just because the universe's creator fupped duck.
I always felt I was a Ravenclaw, but Pottermore sorted me into Slytherin house. Really, I'm a Slytherclaw, as per Pottermore's arithmantic sorcery, I'm 83% Slytherin and 75% Ravenclaw.
The best descriptor of the Hogwart's Houses I've ever seen is this one:
Gryffindors do what they feel is right
Ravenclaws do what they feel is wise
Hufflepuffs do what they feel is nice
Slytherins do what they feel is necessary
