Serving the community since 1897
As one of Ontario’s oldest historical societies, PHS has played a lead role in preserving and promoting Peterborough’s rich social, cultural and architectural history.
Our goal is to generate wider public awareness of the importance of history to the success and welfare of the community. We seek to engage the public through a number of programs and outreach initiatives that reflect the fascinating complexity and diversity of the community’s past.
The society owns and operates Hutchison House Museum, located in downtown Peterborough, which is open year-round and provides windows into the rich social history of the city and region, primarily in the nineteenth century.
The Peterborough Historical Society gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the City of Peterborough, the Province of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, and the Peterborough Foundation.
