No Pride in the Pride Lands [Completed]

Character(s): Link, Scar, and anyone else who pops up.
Content: Link is still stuck in the Pride Lands, and still being forced to live as a wolf.
Setting: Pride Lands near Pride Rock
Time: Late Morning (Week 31)
Warnings: Possible mauling by Scar?

Link swallowed the last of the hare he had caught and killed. He wasn't a stranger to hunting and preparing his own meat, but he still wasn't very keen on eating it raw. There were plenty of resources to build a fire, but since he was still a wolf such comforts were out of the question. At least his stomach was able to digest the raw meat without making him sick.

There was a water hole not too far away, and that was exactly where he was headed. The water there was fairly clean and Link preferred to rinse his mouth out after eating the way he had been for the past few days. Still, it wasn't all bad. The worst thing he had run in to was that Reddas guy as a bull-thingy. Link made sure to stay away from the bigger animals, which was pretty easy to do since they could be spotted from so far away. Hopefully, he'd make it back to the city without further mishap.

Hopefully.

Well, here was a rare animal. Scar wasn't sure he'd ever seen on like it before. Something like a jackal...but certainly bigger than that. Still nothing compared to the size of a lion, but the hyenas would probably have some trouble with this one.

They had all been rather surprised when he arrived, something about having watching him get mauled. It didn't take long before the lot of them shut up, however, as the Heartless proved far more useful than the hyenas ever had. For one thing, the Heartless actually obeyed him. None of them had dared to follow him beyond the boundary of the Elephant Graveyard.

It hadn't taken Scar long after that to be quite certain that these were not his Pride Lands. Oh, it was the same place, of course, that he couldn't deny. However, the Pride Lands he had left were in the middle of a terrible drought. While the signs of that dry season were still here, new grass was growing, and he could see sprigs of new leaves on the trees. This was probably the Pride Lands of Zira's memories, or one of her brats, or Simba's little whelp. He probably would not be welcome at Pride Rock, but that didn't deter him. He had the Heartless on his side now. The lionesses would not dare stand against him.

But as he came to the water hole, this odd canine certainly caught Scar's attention. The scent was even familiar, though Scar could hardly venture a guess as to why.

"Don't you think it's rather dangerous to be so close to a pride of lions?" Scar's teeth glinted in the morning sun, a trick he used often. He might not have had an easy time intimidating many of those in the city as a lion, but here in the Pride Lands lions reigned supreme. And if this canine didn't know that already, Scar would be more than willing to teach him.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Vitani wasn't entirely sure how it happened, but when she suddenly vanished from Muspelheim to...what looked oddly like the Pride Lands, well, saying she was utterly bewildered was a understatement. It looked like the Pride Lands, but the more she wandered and looked around, the more she realized something...wasn't quite right.

Especially when she caught a scent that didn't seem like anything she had known before, but also another...lion? She follows the scent, leading her to the waterhole where she not only caught sight of the unfamiliar canine, but also...no way. She had only been a small cub when Scar had been killed by Simba, but Kovu certainly bore a resemblance to him. She had been told he's here, but Vitani never thought she'd actually run into Scar, even after she had spoken to her mother.

At the moment, she's just a bit too caught off guard by surprise to do much more than silently creep closer, keeping a careful eye on the stranger while most of her attention is on Scar. It couldn't really be him...could it?

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Link?" Scar put a claw to his lips in thought. "Ooooh, yes, I do remember. You were that poor soul who'd been set upon by the Heartless. You're certainly in much better shape now than you were last time we met." Scar's teeth were now much less visible, though his grin still held some of that devilish quality.

Unfortunately, Scar had never been very good at noticing anyone trying to sneak up on him. There were very, very few in the Pride Lands would dare. This meant that Vitani went just as unnoticed by him as she had by Link. Her silent creeping made her rather difficult to detect...and if any creature in the Pride Lands was good at that, it was a lioness.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Well then, that atleast erased her doubts. So this truely is Scar, and the stranger is someone named Link? Strange name. But that still leaves Vitani the not so little problem of she had never really considered what she would do when she finally ran into Scar, and now she truely wishes she had because she honestly doesn't know what to do now that she is here.

She stops when she gets close, though if she were actually paying attention, she may notice she's actually a bit too close. Either Link or Scar could catch her scent, and if either happened to look in her direction, possibly see the lioness watching them from the tall grass.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Now there was a scent Scar had not smelled in a long time. Of course he would never forget the smell of his own cub. From Link's eyes, he could also easily tell just where she was. He made no indication, however, as to his awareness either of Link's face, or her scent.

"Oh good, I'm so glad to hear you're doing well. Yes, it is. These are the lands I ruled over as King. Though...it seems this version of them has seen quite some time pass. The last time I was here, the Pride Lands were in the middle of a horrible drought." The state of the vegetation made it quite clear, in fact.

"But then, the last time I was here, I was not being stalked by my own cub, isn't that right, Vitani?" Scar did not turn toward her, nor take his eyes off Link.

pardon me orz

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
The second Scar mentions his own cub, there's a moment Vitani could swear her heart skipped a beat, and it's only then she realizes her mistake. She's frozen a moment longer, but Vitani knows there's no use in hiding when Scar knew she was there.

She tries to hide the nervousness she feels as she slowly stands up, though doesn't move closer.

"I...didn't expect to see you."

>:3

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Now Vitani, are you so scared of your own father you won't come sit next to him?" Despite the cordial tone, Scar still didn't turn to face her. It made what sounded like an innocent question into a genuine threat. "Ah, yes. You see, I haven't seen my cubs in quite some time. I assure you, I'm just as surprised to see Vitani here as she is to see me."

That part, of course, was a lie. Scar didn't like seeing his cub as an adult, but that was quite a different situation from seeing your father back from the dead. But now that she was here, she had a certain conversation that had occurred over the journals that she need ed to answer for. And Scar would be more than glad to mete out a fitting punishment.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not frightened, Father." Except that was a lie. She certainly didn't want to be here while Scar knew she was there, and she definitly didn't want to get closer to him. So while she does walk out from behind Scar, she's still a small distance away from him, by her judgement enough to be able to get away if need be.

She was only a cub when her father died, but she didn't want to run any risks with him. "Who is your friend?" Trying to divert attention back away from herself.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Scar took note of Vitani's position. Even one of Zira's cubs was unable to hide her nervousness around him. He was almost amused--or would be, if it wasn't such a clear sign of his cub's insubordination.

"I saved him from the Heartless some time ago," he said. "If it weren't for me, they probably would have taken his heart." This was going to send some extremely mixed messages to Vitani. Even though she'd been a very small cub when supposedly Scar had been...killed...she would likely remember him much more as he really was, rather than this friendly facade he'd put up to fool everyone in Paixao.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-24 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a quick glare sent at Link in response to the rotten look, which turns to confusion at the unfamiliar name before her attention is taken by Scar's voice.

Mixed messages indeed. Vitani didn't bother to think about Scar very much in the past, but she still had the memories that made this current behavior...strange. Not what she remembered. But then, she also figures it best she didn't mention that. "It's nice to meet you, then."

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
A deadly grin on his muzzle, Scar began to walk around the other two, in particular to get a good look at how Vitani had grown. The time in the Outlands certainly had not done her very much good. And Link's nervousness at this point was simply amusing.

"I do hope the two of you can become friends." The statement was far less paternal than it was predatory. "It would be such A shame to see any fighting break out."

This time, Scar was trying to confuse Link. Vitani might remember him like this, but to Link, Scar had never been anything but helpful. Leaving the both of them so uncertain would be the easiest way Scar could deal with them at once.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Vitani follows Scar's movements, watching him walk around them. She certainly didn't trust Scar to get out of her line of sight, even less than she trusted the stranger she had just met.

But if Scar was going for uncertainty, well, he got from Vitani. One minute he was acting so strange, and now it was more like what she did remember. "I don't see why a fight would break out." With Link, anyway, but she doesn't add that.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me?" Scar brought a paw to his chest, and gave quite the look of shock. "Why would I ever want to fight you?" Aside from the fact that Scar would never sully his paws fighting a canine unless he absolutely had to.

"And you'll have to forgive me, Vitani, I must have been mistaking you for your mother for a moment. I must be getting old." He brought a paw to his forehead. "Being a king seems to have started taking its toll on me."

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-25 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Vitani herself wasn't sure if she'd fight Scar herself, atleast not unless it was in self-defense. She certainly wasn't letting her guard down either way, and while she could see Link intended to put up a fight should it come to that, being a stranger she didn't intend to hold any faith in him either. "You don't exactly seem uninterested in a fight either, Father."

And that, she has to actually make a conscious effort to not scoff and roll her eyes at her father the moment he says the word 'king', but she bites her tounge from saying anything.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-26 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh Vitani, sure you know me better than that," Scar answered with almost a cooing in his voice. He couldn't possibly have sounded more condescending.

"Would you like an escort?" Scar was quick with the response to Link. "You wouldn't want to get mauled by the hyenas on your way back, I don't think they'd like to see any canine on their lands at all." He inspected a paw absent-mindedly.

"That, and you never know when the Heartless might show up..." If the concern of hyenas didn't get Link to stop, the mention of the Heartless certainly would. And if it didn't, then Link was too much of a fool to be worth Scar's attention anyway.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-26 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That condescending tone earns a bit of a glare from Vitani. "Of course I know my own father, it's also how I know you aren't exactly the most worthy of trust."

Vitani glances over at Link as he tries to excuse himself, though doesn't respond. She had already said Scar wasn't the most worthy of trust, Link could do as he saw fit.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-27 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Suit yourself. But that isn't the right direction," Scar corrected the wolf. "The door back to the city is in the Elephant Graveyard, across the Northern border." The lion wasn't kind enough to indicate the direction, but he figured Link would use the sun to find which way was North. It really wasn't difficult.

Such a shame that his little plan hadn't quite worked out, but Link was now afraid of him, rather than suspicious. As long as that remained the case, he would be quite easy to deal with. Vitani, on the other hand...

He turned toward his daughter. "Now what exactly was it that makes you think I would lie, hm?" The malicious undertone to his words was just barely perceptible, more detectable in his movement toward her than anything else.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-27 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Likewise, Vitani also assumed Link would be able to figure out where north is, and so doesn't bother to point out which direction that is.

"Because you're you, for one thing. You lied to the entire pride in order to get the throne." She says it like she's simply stating a obvious fact, exasperated and annoyed and something else. That something in understandably being suspicion and caution.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-27 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ignoring Link, Scar narrowed his gaze at his daughter. "I don't recall your mother ever seeming to have a problem with that."

His stare was cold as ice. "Tell me, what happened to change your mind? Was it Kovu? Or Simba's little brat?"

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-27 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
And much like Scar, Vitani stops paying attention to Link as well, her attention on her father. She tries to make sure her apprehension doesn't show, knowing full well she's on thin ice as it is, and it was only bound to get worse.

"I changed my mind on my own, Father."

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-28 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Scar started to circle his daughter, a malicious sort of grin on his muzzle that spoke more of a desire to inflict pain than it did any sort of cheeriness.

"Oh did you now? And what was the cause of that? Did Mommy not do a good job of raising you?"

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-28 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Vitani likewise follows his movements, not trusting him to get out of her line of sight for any amount of time. Her own look is guarded, waiting for him to do something that would require her to react.

"She kept us alive in the Outlands." is all she says in answer.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"And what of your little brother? Did the same thing happen with him? Wait, let me guess. He ran away because Mommy was too strict." Scar was rapidly losing what little patience he had, and each moment, though it wasn't reflected in his voice, the signs of his anger became more and more apparent. His steps, practiced and silent, grew wider, lower to the ground where he could pounce more easily.

He was offended by his daughter's behavior, to say the least, and to think that this Kovu, a cub Scar had supposedly hand-picked himself, would side with Simba was simply infuriating. Zira had much to answer for now. One of her cubs, Scar could perhaps understand. But two? To let two of her cubs become so...independent was something he simply could not believe. By all rights, both of these cubs should be his to command, and should listen to his every word without question. That he would be arguing with his own daughter was a transgression he would not forgive lightly.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Vitani likewise lowers herself to the ground slightly so as to be able to either pounce or dodge quickly, whichever would prove to be needed. There's even a small growl at his words, despite Vitani's reservations that this is Scar himself she's dealing with.

"You know nothing of what happened in the future, do you, Father?"

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: Malia said we can skip Link unless a fight starts. XD]

"If you're speaking of Simba fighting me to become King, and the hyenas turning on me, yes, I have been made well aware." As much as Scar had tried to convince Simba that day they'd first met here that Shenzi had been lying, he knew that the hyena had no reason to make up such a story. Particularly now that it was so obvious that other lions from his future were able to come to this wretched place, and Kovu's behavior during their thankfully brief conversation on the journals. The rest of the details he had already been told by Zira herself, though it was quite clear that he was missing some information yet.

"The only piece of the story I seem to be missing is why you and Kovu would turn on your Mother."

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
And Vitani isn't sure if she should run the risk of telling those details. As far as she knows, she's alone with Scar, assuming Link had already gone well on his way back to wherever he was intending to go. Not only considering her own safety, she knew she had to consider Kovu's as well.

"I don't see why I should take the trouble to tell when Mother should be able to well enough."

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Your Mother doesn't seem any more informed than I am. She's just as confused about the two of you turning out to be so worthless. But you know what? If you tell me now, I might forgive you. Assuming you'll act as my daughter should, of course."

Scar had no interest in making an ally of Vitani. He had the Heartless, and they were already proving far stronger than even the entire clan of hyenas. One lioness would make little difference. However, the chance to avoid yet another enemy wasn't one he would pass up. He just wouldn't want her anywhere near if all she was going to do was annoy him.

In the end, it would matter little what Vitani chose. He offered her the choice merely as a formality, and hardly even expected acknowledgment of the option, much less acquiescence. He would have to learn just how poorly Zira had managed to raise her that she'd be so recalcitrant with her own father.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
"How you think I should act likely varies from what I actually will." It's stated more as a simple fact, and while she doesn't actually roll her eyes at him, her tone would certainly suit the action.

As he expected, Vitani doesn't intent to just acquiescence as do as he might tell or ask of her.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
"You see, that's exactly the problem. But if you think otherwise, I suppose there won't be any way to persuade you." Now it was just a simple matter of how, and when, to dispatch her. The Heartless would probably be involved, of course, but to do so the first time they'd met, especially because Link had seen them together, would place far too much suspicion on him.

Whether Vitani would catch the veiled threat or not, Scar couldn't be sure.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-05-01 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if Vitani didn't remember Scar too much, that didn't really change the fact she knew when she was being threatened. Seems she'll have to watch her back around Paixao from now on, though atleast it wouldn't be anything new to her. You had to know who was coming up behind you when you lived in such a place as the Outlands.

"No, I suppose there wouldn't."

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
"We may as well go our separate ways." Scar, by now, looked extremely bored, but it was clear that his message had gotten across to his daughter plain as could be. If nothing else, now she would be nervous, which would make dealing with her in the future far easier.

He turned on his front paws, and took a few steps toward where Link was still hiding, oblivious to the fact the wolf hadn't yet left. "Though you might want to be careful of your mother. She was never one to be very forgiving."

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She would be nervous, would be paying more attention to whoever may or may not be around her for a while yet. Atleast this way she knows to expect something sooner or later, rather than being completely taken by surprise.

She scoffs a bit at those words, though. Vitani knew perfectly well how her mother tended to me, she had been her second in command for far too long to not know. "I can handle myself, you've no need to tell me that."

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh I know that," Scar answered, the slime practically dripping from his fangs. "It's just hat I would so hate to see anything...untoward...happen to my only daughter."

At this, he passed well within striking distance of Vitani, close enough he could have brushed her side with his tail. But he wasn't worried. If she struck, the Heartless would do the job now, instead of waiting until she was back in the city. No matter what happened, his daughter was certainly of no use to him now. Such a shame, really, she seemed like she would have been rather nice to have around.

[identity profile] lionessofwar.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure." And the sarcasm drips from each word. No, she doesn't believe him at all.

She leans away slightly as he walked by, watching him though doesn't move to attack. If she attacked without much of actual provocation, it would just be a problem for her in the end, one she certainly didn't need.

[identity profile] i-killedmufasa.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Scar simply smiled again, and continued on his way, more than confident that Vitani would not follow him. At least now he knew where she stood.

And when he returned to the city, Zira had much to explain that she hadn't informed him of before.
