No Pride in the Pride Lands [Completed]
Character(s): Link, Scar, and anyone else who pops up.
Content: Link is still stuck in the Pride Lands, and still being forced to live as a wolf.
Setting: Pride Lands near Pride Rock
Time: Late Morning (Week 31)
Warnings: Possible mauling by Scar?
Link swallowed the last of the hare he had caught and killed. He wasn't a stranger to hunting and preparing his own meat, but he still wasn't very keen on eating it raw. There were plenty of resources to build a fire, but since he was still a wolf such comforts were out of the question. At least his stomach was able to digest the raw meat without making him sick.
There was a water hole not too far away, and that was exactly where he was headed. The water there was fairly clean and Link preferred to rinse his mouth out after eating the way he had been for the past few days. Still, it wasn't all bad. The worst thing he had run in to was that Reddas guy as a bull-thingy. Link made sure to stay away from the bigger animals, which was pretty easy to do since they could be spotted from so far away. Hopefully, he'd make it back to the city without further mishap.
Hopefully.

They had all been rather surprised when he arrived, something about having watching him get mauled. It didn't take long before the lot of them shut up, however, as the Heartless proved far more useful than the hyenas ever had. For one thing, the Heartless actually obeyed him. None of them had dared to follow him beyond the boundary of the Elephant Graveyard.
It hadn't taken Scar long after that to be quite certain that these were not his Pride Lands. Oh, it was the same place, of course, that he couldn't deny. However, the Pride Lands he had left were in the middle of a terrible drought. While the signs of that dry season were still here, new grass was growing, and he could see sprigs of new leaves on the trees. This was probably the Pride Lands of Zira's memories, or one of her brats, or Simba's little whelp. He probably would not be welcome at Pride Rock, but that didn't deter him. He had the Heartless on his side now. The lionesses would not dare stand against him.
But as he came to the water hole, this odd canine certainly caught Scar's attention. The scent was even familiar, though Scar could hardly venture a guess as to why.
"Don't you think it's rather dangerous to be so close to a pride of lions?" Scar's teeth glinted in the morning sun, a trick he used often. He might not have had an easy time intimidating many of those in the city as a lion, but here in the Pride Lands lions reigned supreme. And if this canine didn't know that already, Scar would be more than willing to teach him.

Especially when she caught a scent that didn't seem like anything she had known before, but also another...lion? She follows the scent, leading her to the waterhole where she not only caught sight of the unfamiliar canine, but also...no way. She had only been a small cub when Scar had been killed by Simba, but Kovu certainly bore a resemblance to him. She had been told he's here, but Vitani never thought she'd actually run into Scar, even after she had spoken to her mother.
At the moment, she's just a bit too caught off guard by surprise to do much more than silently creep closer, keeping a careful eye on the stranger while most of her attention is on Scar. It couldn't really be him...could it?
no subject
"I didn't know there were lions around here. You're Scar, right?" Link had turned to face him now. "I know I don't look like me anymore, but I'm Link. I think it was you who had helped me back from Spira?" Link cocked his head, and hoped that Scar would remember him. He didn't like the look he was getting, and he felt very vulnerable in this new body considering he had no weapons and would have to use his teeth to defend himself.
The lioness' presence went unnoticed. Link sense of smell had multiplied, but he wasn't used to separating the smells. His brain was overloaded with the information coming from his nose so even if she was in a place where he could catch her scent, he wouldn't know how to process it.
no subject
Unfortunately, Scar had never been very good at noticing anyone trying to sneak up on him. There were very, very few in the Pride Lands would dare. This meant that Vitani went just as unnoticed by him as she had by Link. Her silent creeping made her rather difficult to detect...and if any creature in the Pride Lands was good at that, it was a lioness.
no subject
She stops when she gets close, though if she were actually paying attention, she may notice she's actually a bit too close. Either Link or Scar could catch her scent, and if either happened to look in her direction, possibly see the lioness watching them from the tall grass.
no subject
Despite this, he was realizing that Scar may not be the best of...animals to hang around, and he tried to hide the fact that someone was lurking behind him. "Yeah. I've uhm...I've had someone to heal me." In fact, he hadn't seen Lightning or Sheik since then. He had to wonder what they were up to. Enough of that for now though. He had a mean-looking lion to deal with.
"Is this the world you've come from then?" A stupid question, but it might distract Scar from the animal crouching in the grass. He obviously didn't know Scar.
no subject
"Oh good, I'm so glad to hear you're doing well. Yes, it is. These are the lands I ruled over as King. Though...it seems this version of them has seen quite some time pass. The last time I was here, the Pride Lands were in the middle of a horrible drought." The state of the vegetation made it quite clear, in fact.
"But then, the last time I was here, I was not being stalked by my own cub, isn't that right, Vitani?" Scar did not turn toward her, nor take his eyes off Link.
pardon me orz
She tries to hide the nervousness she feels as she slowly stands up, though doesn't move closer.
"I...didn't expect to see you."
Awkward turtle anyone?
The lioness didn't look happy to see her father either. Even Link knew that things could easily get messy now. He tried to lighten the mood a little. "You...didn't mention you had kids when we met." He glanced at Vitani, his face full of concern. He didn't know anything about her or what the tension was all about, but he felt sorry for her.
>:3
That part, of course, was a lie. Scar didn't like seeing his cub as an adult, but that was quite a different situation from seeing your father back from the dead. But now that she was here, she had a certain conversation that had occurred over the journals that she need ed to answer for. And Scar would be more than glad to mete out a fitting punishment.
no subject
She was only a cub when her father died, but she didn't want to run any risks with him. "Who is your friend?" Trying to divert attention back away from herself.
no subject
"I'm Link." He shifted uncomfortably. "I'm not really a wolf. Well, here I am, but I'm really a Hylian." The atmosphere was somehow getting heavier. Link felt like he was back in the Water Temple and under all that water. His tunic had helped him deal with being underwater for long periods of time, but the water pressure had still been a pain to deal with. "It's nice to meet you."
no subject
"I saved him from the Heartless some time ago," he said. "If it weren't for me, they probably would have taken his heart." This was going to send some extremely mixed messages to Vitani. Even though she'd been a very small cub when supposedly Scar had been...killed...she would likely remember him much more as he really was, rather than this friendly facade he'd put up to fool everyone in Paixao.
no subject
Mixed messages indeed. Vitani didn't bother to think about Scar very much in the past, but she still had the memories that made this current behavior...strange. Not what she remembered. But then, she also figures it best she didn't mention that. "It's nice to meet you, then."
no subject
He glanced between the two of them, trying to think of an excuse to leave, even if such a lame attempt to get away from Scar would likely fail.
no subject
"I do hope the two of you can become friends." The statement was far less paternal than it was predatory. "It would be such A shame to see any fighting break out."
This time, Scar was trying to confuse Link. Vitani might remember him like this, but to Link, Scar had never been anything but helpful. Leaving the both of them so uncertain would be the easiest way Scar could deal with them at once.
no subject
But if Scar was going for uncertainty, well, he got from Vitani. One minute he was acting so strange, and now it was more like what she did remember. "I don't see why a fight would break out." With Link, anyway, but she doesn't add that.
no subject
"Neither do I. All I'm trying to do is get back to the city." Where he'd have his weapons again. And thumbs. Can't forget about those wonderful thumbs.
Link didn't like being vulnerable. Nor did he like Scar's sudden change in behavior. "It looks like the one aching for a fight is you." He gave the lion a stern look. Link was pretty sure he couldn't win again Scar by himself, nor did he expect Vitani to fight her father, but he wasn't going to just give up and let Scar kill him either.
no subject
"And you'll have to forgive me, Vitani, I must have been mistaking you for your mother for a moment. I must be getting old." He brought a paw to his forehead. "Being a king seems to have started taking its toll on me."
no subject
And that, she has to actually make a conscious effort to not scoff and roll her eyes at her father the moment he says the word 'king', but she bites her tounge from saying anything.
no subject
With Scar pulling that act, Link figured it was a good time to try to leave. He stood up and nodded towards Vitani before turning around. "I guess I'll see you around. I'd like to get back to the city." Link did his best to give Scar a wide berth. He really didn't want him to stop him from getting back to cooked food and a bottle of fresh milk.
no subject
"Would you like an escort?" Scar was quick with the response to Link. "You wouldn't want to get mauled by the hyenas on your way back, I don't think they'd like to see any canine on their lands at all." He inspected a paw absent-mindedly.
"That, and you never know when the Heartless might show up..." If the concern of hyenas didn't get Link to stop, the mention of the Heartless certainly would. And if it didn't, then Link was too much of a fool to be worth Scar's attention anyway.
no subject
Vitani glances over at Link as he tries to excuse himself, though doesn't respond. She had already said Scar wasn't the most worthy of trust, Link could do as he saw fit.
no subject
"I think I can take care of myself." Link turned back to leave, heading towards Pride Rock to see if there were any caves that might lead back to the city somehow. It obvious to see that he was tense though, anxious should Scar or heartless try to attack him.
no subject
Such a shame that his little plan hadn't quite worked out, but Link was now afraid of him, rather than suspicious. As long as that remained the case, he would be quite easy to deal with. Vitani, on the other hand...
He turned toward his daughter. "Now what exactly was it that makes you think I would lie, hm?" The malicious undertone to his words was just barely perceptible, more detectable in his movement toward her than anything else.
no subject
"Because you're you, for one thing. You lied to the entire pride in order to get the throne." She says it like she's simply stating a obvious fact, exasperated and annoyed and something else. That something in understandably being suspicion and caution.
no subject
Link was still close enough to hear what was being said between daughter and father. Maybe...if he kept downwind...
He didn't know Vitani, but the conversation was definitely going south, and Link didn't want her to get hurt. He walked past them, disappearing into the tall grass. He stopped so he was far enough that he couldn't be seen, but he could still hear what was going on.
no subject
His stare was cold as ice. "Tell me, what happened to change your mind? Was it Kovu? Or Simba's little brat?"
no subject
"I changed my mind on my own, Father."
no subject
no subject
"Oh did you now? And what was the cause of that? Did Mommy not do a good job of raising you?"
no subject
"She kept us alive in the Outlands." is all she says in answer.
no subject
He continued to wait and listen, not wanting to leave Vitani just in case...
no subject
He was offended by his daughter's behavior, to say the least, and to think that this Kovu, a cub Scar had supposedly hand-picked himself, would side with Simba was simply infuriating. Zira had much to answer for now. One of her cubs, Scar could perhaps understand. But two? To let two of her cubs become so...independent was something he simply could not believe. By all rights, both of these cubs should be his to command, and should listen to his every word without question. That he would be arguing with his own daughter was a transgression he would not forgive lightly.
no subject
"You know nothing of what happened in the future, do you, Father?"
no subject
"If you're speaking of Simba fighting me to become King, and the hyenas turning on me, yes, I have been made well aware." As much as Scar had tried to convince Simba that day they'd first met here that Shenzi had been lying, he knew that the hyena had no reason to make up such a story. Particularly now that it was so obvious that other lions from his future were able to come to this wretched place, and Kovu's behavior during their thankfully brief conversation on the journals. The rest of the details he had already been told by Zira herself, though it was quite clear that he was missing some information yet.
"The only piece of the story I seem to be missing is why you and Kovu would turn on your Mother."
no subject
"I don't see why I should take the trouble to tell when Mother should be able to well enough."
no subject
Scar had no interest in making an ally of Vitani. He had the Heartless, and they were already proving far stronger than even the entire clan of hyenas. One lioness would make little difference. However, the chance to avoid yet another enemy wasn't one he would pass up. He just wouldn't want her anywhere near if all she was going to do was annoy him.
In the end, it would matter little what Vitani chose. He offered her the choice merely as a formality, and hardly even expected acknowledgment of the option, much less acquiescence. He would have to learn just how poorly Zira had managed to raise her that she'd be so recalcitrant with her own father.
no subject
As he expected, Vitani doesn't intent to just acquiescence as do as he might tell or ask of her.
no subject
Whether Vitani would catch the veiled threat or not, Scar couldn't be sure.
no subject
"No, I suppose there wouldn't."
no subject
He turned on his front paws, and took a few steps toward where Link was still hiding, oblivious to the fact the wolf hadn't yet left. "Though you might want to be careful of your mother. She was never one to be very forgiving."
no subject
She scoffs a bit at those words, though. Vitani knew perfectly well how her mother tended to me, she had been her second in command for far too long to not know. "I can handle myself, you've no need to tell me that."
no subject
At this, he passed well within striking distance of Vitani, close enough he could have brushed her side with his tail. But he wasn't worried. If she struck, the Heartless would do the job now, instead of waiting until she was back in the city. No matter what happened, his daughter was certainly of no use to him now. Such a shame, really, she seemed like she would have been rather nice to have around.
no subject
She leans away slightly as he walked by, watching him though doesn't move to attack. If she attacked without much of actual provocation, it would just be a problem for her in the end, one she certainly didn't need.
no subject
And when he returned to the city, Zira had much to explain that she hadn't informed him of before.
