Buck nodded, watching him. He moved close enough for their shoulders to touch, looking over the surf. “You’re a really good dad,” he said. 

Eddie kept his eyes cast down. “Not always. Ever since his mom died, I’ve had to say no a lot more than I used to. And he’s getting older. I don’t know how I’m going to handle finding a new school for him after fifth grade. It’s…” He sighed. “I didn’t bring you here to complain about parenting.” 

“No, it’s okay,” Buck said, nodding. “I know you don’t mean it like that, but it’s a lot, raising a kid on your own. I don’t know how you do it.” 

Eddie laughed, sounding a little broken. “I don’t know how I do, either.” 

He wasn’t sure what else to say. “You’re letting people help, right? I mean, you’re letting me help. That’s one person.” 

Eddie pressed in closer, until their shoulders and forearms were sandwiched together. They held that connection for what felt like a long time, Buck’s heart beating double time. 

“You’re not just any person,” Eddie said quietly.

Cowriting

Even though work and my life have been busy, writing with my cowriter @beshrew-my-very-heart has continued. I’m so grateful for his patience with all the changes and stressful event of the last two years.

My cowriter introduced me to a new fandom this year, 9-1-1. We wrote a handful of smutty stories for the Five Alarm Fest this summer, and several of them have prompted series, in particular the Time Off crossover series. It’s been so much fun to get to know all the characters by writing about them.

Comments: This is my favorite story-that-nobody-read, probably because we didn’t tag the secret relationship. We challenged ourselves to write a oneshot. It was plotted, written, and published in 24 hours—but we couldn’t stop there! We wrote several thousand words of a sequel, but set it aside in favor of writing other things.

2. Waited on a Line of Greens and Blues (part 3 of To Be With You series)

It’s set in a “futurefic” container, but told in flashbacks across several decades – even one of Tommy and Owen from the beginning of their relationship. We had SO much fun writing them, but oh, wow, so many spoilers for the series.
