One of my friends has been agitating to run The Witcher tabletop rpg for a while now. And since our little circle has all now seen the show and approved, he finally got everyone to agree that would be the game we’d do this time around.

Today was character creation. We wound up meeting earlier than usual, and we had some time before the last of the crew showed up. Conversation turned to the Cats movie bombing at the box office, and a couple of people admitted to curiosity. Which is how we wound up watching the 1998 staging on Amazon.

It went over well, though not without the expected questions, WTFs, and internet searches. (Also? I’d forgotten just how gay Demeter and Bombalurina are for each other in this production, which was a pleasant surprise.) But overall, everyone got a kick out of it and took it not at all seriously.

It also meant once we got our characters all put together, we wound up with a stalwart, elven man-at-arms named Munkustrap, a priestess of Melitele named Cassandra, a mage named Gus, and a slutty, slutty Witcher heavily based on Rum Tum Tugger (but named Edras, which is, I think, the only thing that kept our GM from outright murdering us).

So we’ll basically be doing our Witcher game as a Cats fusion AU. Pity the poor GM.

It’s always long enough between viewings that I forget what a cliche, racist, vastly stupid and profoundly self-indulgent movie Jackson’s King Kong is.

Which I suppose wouldn’t bother me so much if I could ever remember where the appeal was in wanting to re-watch it in the first place.

So I was going through my roster for the Alive Is All You Get everybody lives AU a while back, and noticed that it’s really skewed toward a male presence. The primary reason for that is that, aside from a couple of specific OCs, I was mostly sketching out the townsfolk from the film, and the vast majority of those characters are dudes.

There are a couple of problems with this.

One is the obvious: The usual representation issues with women, particularly in certain genres.

The other is more setting-specific: We saw a lot of townsfolk hit the dirt during The Battle of Rose Creek while the women and children were in hiding. Rose Creek should have a passel of widows and women with more a hand in the up-front running of the town than they did previously.

And I was thinking to correct things, when I thought letting some of the fandom crew in on this might be fun!

So! Here’s the link to my roster for this AU. Major spoilers have been removed (which is why certain main characters have pretty thin write-ups). Specs are as follows:

- Your characters will be respected. I promise, if I need to kill someone off, it’s not going to be an OC one of you guys donated.
- These ladies probably aren’t going to be central characters. Try not to give them more than a paragraph or so of write-up.
- Related to the above, please don’t give them very close ties to any of The Seven. Occasionally tells off (or flirts with?) Sheriff Faraday, inspired by Sam, crushing on Red, was one of Goodnight’s nurses during his early days of healing… all good things! Horne’s miraculously survived wife or Billy's secret love child? Not so much.
- All that said? If you find yourself wanting to do shorts or drabbles starring your ladies in this AU, I will find room for them.
- Characters I have specific plans for: Faraday, Goody, Billy, Emma, Leni. Everyone else is pretty negotiable. And if some of the write-ups for Sam & Co read as a little familiar? Yes, AU this is 100% based in the first post I ever did for this fandom. XD

I know that I prowl corners of the internet that are especially inclined to take such news badly, but I swear to fuck, if I have to see one more bit of wailing idiocy over Disney failing to strong arm another studio because Oh No, Spider-Man! I am going to flip my shit.

Ah, my very obvious bootleg of Bad Guys has arrived! Let's see what treats are in store.

- Seller was reportedly based in California, requested currency was in Australian dollars, package shipped out of Hong Kong.

- Three DVDs shipped in a single DVD case, but at least each one comes with it's own padded cozy. Cover art is definitely a home-print job, but they did put in the effort of trying to make it look professional.

- No menus, just straight data on a DVD-R.

- Looks like it was recorded from the TV airing. Complete with network logos and coming-attractions blurbs! Picture quality isn't too bad, though.

- Sound is kind of mushy. If I had better speakers, it would probably grate.

- The subs are really quite good. They're going the route of leaving words with no direct translation intact and providing a definition in parentheses. It's not immersive, but it's more informative and I like it.

All in all, not bad so far.

Joshua Faraday had been called “impossible” more than once in his life. It was far from the worst thing he’d every been called, that was for sure, but it hadn’t ever been anything close to a compliment.

These days, though, it was an altogether different story. Yes, sir, he had managed all kinds of mind-boggling impossibility in the last few months. It was impossible that he’d survived his headlong charge against a Gatling gun. Impossible that he’d held out against the blood loss before Red Harvest and Vasquez had hauled what was left of him back to the tender care for the town doc, and all the more impressive given the head start that bullet in his gut had given him toward exsanguination. Said doc had also let him know more than once how impossible it was that he’d dodged the infection that should have surely come from burns, open wounds, and the removal of three bullets. (One was, apparently still sitting somewhere in the meat of his chest, safer left where it was.)

Yet here he was, Mary Faraday’s little mutt, impossibly on his feet near half a year later. Well, on his ass in The Imperial at the moment, doing his best to enjoy a whiskey he hadn’t had to pay for. Faraday found he was trying his best to enjoy the little things in life these days. Good whiskey, the firey sunsets over the mountains, being able to stay abed as long as he pleased with the knowledge that some kind soul would feed him once he got his legs under him and wandered out into the town.
