A month ago, we raised the alarm and last week, the outcome we fought so hard to avoid became reality: SeaO2 has been declared bankrupt. We did everything we could to secure financing in time. We pursued investors at home and abroad, ran every scenario, and fought for every option until the very last moment. The interest was real, the technology is proven, the grants were awarded, but the capital simply didn't move fast enough. And so, with deep sadness, we have to confirm that we couldn't get there in time. Five years ago, we set out with one dream: to remove CO₂ from the ocean affordably, at a scale that actually matters. We built the technology to make that achievable and to fight ocean acidification at the same time. And it worked. What we built doesn't disappear with the bankruptcy. The technology, the patents, the pilot, the know-how - it's all still here, and it's still exactly what the world needs: climate resilience, energy independence and the (European) industrial competitiveness of the future. That's why, together with our bankruptcy trustee, we are now actively exploring a restart. Interested corporates or other startups who see the value in continuing this mission can reach out directly to them: e: rolandcamphuis@levenbach.nl / rynkpoelsma@levenbach.nl / stephanvoermans@levenbach.nl t: +31 (0) 20 664 65 11 They aim to share an information memorandum to interested parties at the end of this week. To our investors, angels, partners, and everyone who believed in us: thank you, truly. And above all, to our incredible team - what you built is something to be proud of for the rest of your lives. This isn't the ending we wanted, but the impact and the technology are real, and the mission is more relevant than ever. Who's ready to ride this wave with us? 🌊 💙 Ruben Founder & CEO SeaO2

𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽! In one week, SeaO2 will cease to exist. Not because the technology failed, but because the capital didn’t move in time. If nothing changes we will be filing for bankruptcy this week! So we’re sounding the alarm. With a relatively modest investment, this can still be turned around and we can act very fast! Five years ago, we started with one dream: to remove CO₂ from the ocean affordably, at a scale that actually matters. The world needs to reach 10 billion tonnes of CO₂ removal per year to meet climate targets. We built the technology to make that achievable and fight ocean acidification at the same time. And it works. We took direct ocean capture from the lab to a working pilot, TRL 6! We generated our first revenue through carbon credits. We were on track for a cost per tonne among the most competitive in the sector: one of the most promising pathways to affordable carbon removal that exists today. And we didn’t do it quietly. We were recognised by the European Commission through BlueInvest, presented in The Hague and Brussels, were featured by Economist Impact, and nominated for the Offshore Wind Innovators Award recently. We secured significant (European) grants and built an exceptional team. We raised three funding rounds. Every light was green. Then the investment climate for climate tech changed drastically, not just in the Netherlands, but everywhere. Capital locked up. We pursued investors at home and abroad, across Europe and beyond. Private investors waited for public commitments. Public players waited for private ones. And so no one moved. We fought like lions. We tried every conceivable scenario. But last week, we had to tell our team, with tears in our eyes, that the money has run out. With subsidies already awarded, new revenue in the pipeline, and continued investor interest for later stage investments, the timing is especially cruel. Because technology like ours is exactly what the world is looking for: energy independence, climate resilience, and the industrial competitiveness of the future. This is bigger than our team. As long as proven climate technology can’t find capital, companies like SeaO2 will disappear, or relocate to wherever the money finally flows. With all the consequences that brings for our economy, jobs, knowledge, and the race to actually solve this. So we’re sounding the alarm. With a relatively modest investment, this can still be turned around and we can act very fast! Do you know someone — a philanthropic fund, an investor or an interested corporate — who could help us? Tag them, or send us a message. Help us, and we can move immediately. To our investors*, angels and everyone who believed in us: thank you, truly. And above all, to our incredible team. 🙏🏻 🌊 💙 Ruben (ruben@SeaO2.com) *DOEN Ventures, NV NOM NEW-TTT, Future Tech Ventures, CarbonFix, Transavia ventures

Can’t wait to speak at Katapult Future Fest 2026 in Amsterdam 🌊 The ocean already does the heavy lifting on carbon, it absorbs roughly a quarter of our emissions every year. At SeaO2 we’re building the technology to give it a hand: removing CO₂ directly from seawater so it can keep doing what it does best. Looking forward to sharing where we are, where we’re headed, and why the next decade of climate tech will be written (in part) at sea. See you in Amsterdam 👋 #KFF2026

  • Honoured to share that SeaO2 has been nominated for the 2025 Offshore Wind Innovators Award by Offshore Energy | Energy Innovation NL. We are proud to be recognised alongside i4sea and FLASC B.V., two companies doing impressive work to make offshore wind more reliable, flexible and scalable. For us, this nomination is a meaningful recognition of the role Direct Ocean Capture can play in the offshore energy ecosystem. At SeaO2, we are developing technology to remove CO₂ from seawater, enabling the ocean to absorb more CO₂ from the atmosphere again, while creating opportunities for permanent, verifiable carbon removal and future power-to-X applications. Offshore wind and ocean-based carbon removal can become a powerful combination: renewable energy at sea, used to remove CO₂ through one of the world’s largest natural carbon sink. In the video below, our founder & CEO Ruben Brands explains what SeaO2 is all about and how our technology works. A big thank you to the organisers for the recognition, and to our team and partners who make this work possible. Looking forward to the next steps! And a big shout-out to Anouk Stortenbeker and Roel van Horssen for creating this great video! 🙏 #offshorewind #innovation #energytransition #renewableenergy

  • We’ve wrapped up an energising and inspiring three days at ChangeNOW 2026 at the Grand Palais in Paris 🇫🇷 At ChangeNOW, Ruben Brands, Founder & CEO, and Zamin Syed, Founder’s Associate, were on the ground representing SeaO2 and engaging across the ecosystem on the role of direct ocean capture in reaching net zero. We kicked things off with Zamin pitching in the Ocean-Water Theme, where he shared SeaO₂’s technology and the role of marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) in tackling climate change 🌊 Across the event, we joined a wide range of conversations on climate, net zero, and the broader sustainability ecosystem. It was especially exciting to spend time with the carbon removal community, continue sharing our story, and spotlight the important role of mCDR in the climate solutions mix. From investors and policymakers to fellow innovators and builders in climate, the past few days were full of meaningful conversations, fresh perspectives, and valuable new connections. It was also incredibly motivating to see so many promising solutions being developed across sectors, both within and beyond the ocean space. We also got to spend time with the French CDR ecosystem, connecting with new faces, reconnecting with familiar ones including including Mónica Larrazábal Álvarez-Guerra from Norma, and joining a great evening hosted by ClimeFi, Crystalchain, and Rainbow, thank you to Laura Penrose and the team for bringing everyone together 🇫🇷🤝 We’re leaving Paris with fresh energy, stronger momentum, and even more excitement for what’s ahead 🚀 #ChangeNOW2026 #CarbonRemoval #mCDR #CDR #NetZero #ClimateInnovation #DirectOceanCapture #Deeptech

On Wednesday, April 8, we will be present at the first edition of the Havenmarkt in Scheveningen Harbour! 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝🌍 This week we organized a pivotal Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) session alongside Skytree, TNO, and the Provincie Zuid-Holland to define the future of carbon innovation in our region. The core of our discussion? Designing a world-class Fieldlab, which isn't just a facility; it’s an ecosystem. To make it a reality, we focused on four critical pillars: ✅ Success factors: Defining what "winning" looks like for regional CDR. 🚧 Breaking barriers: Identifying the regulatory and technical hurdles in our path. 🔌 Infrastructure: Mapping out the physical and digital needs for scalable solutions. 🤝 Partnerships: Linking startups, scaleups, corporates, and government bodies. One thing is clear: combining carbon capture and utilization (CCU) with carbon capture and storage (CCS) is essential. By bringing together these two sides of the coin, we can turn captured CO₂ into a resource while ensuring long-term climate impact. It was inspiring to see such a diverse group of players in the room, from startups to established industry leaders and government representatives. Special thanks to all the contributors: Skytree | TNO | Fieldlab industrial electrification | Provincie Zuid-Holland | Gemeente Rotterdam | Port of Rotterdam | InnovationQuarter | Netherlands Enterprise Agency | SeaO2 | FME | Paebbl | ZEF B.V. - Zero Emission Fuels | everox | Carbyon | EBN B.V. | Division Q | Together, we are building the infrastructure for a sustainable tomorrow. 🪴 #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #Sustainability #SouthHolland #Innovation #CCU #CCS #ClimateAction
