Another photo from the archives – and no, we weren’t running a David Hasselhoff lookalike contest. Back in 1989, we still had a Fibers business, and this was a story about a new “yarn wind-off and knot unit” which had been specially developed for us by the man in the picture. Apparently, the knots tied by the prototype equipment were superior in many ways to those tied by hand. Wonder if he was known as the Knot Rider?

Passengers travelling on the latest Jimbee Jet from Japan Transocean Air must be having a whale of a time. The aircraft was painted with a stunning whale shark design using an Aerodur 3001/3002 basecoat/clearcoat system supplied by our AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings business. The livery – applied by AirAsia in Taiwan – was inspired by Okinawa’s marine life and the forests of Yambaru and Iriomote. The vibrant colors, intricate details and flowing design demonstrate how our coatings can help transform an ambitious creative concept into a consistent, top quality finish across an entire aircraft.

The world’s greatest football competition may have finished, but sport continues to engage and inspire. A great time to celebrate the work being carried out in Colombia by our Pintuco® Foundation and its partners. Together, we’ve transformed more than 40 sports facilities, providing a space where young people can build dreams, where community ties are being strengthened and where color is painting a brighter future.

More than 100 wooden sculptures that were carved with a chainsaw from Atlantic Forest waste have been restored with our coatings. Created by Hugo França, the outdoor works are on display at the Instituto Inhotim Museum in Brazil. In total, 130 of the artist’s exhibits have been protected with 400 liters of Cetol Ultra Protector from our Sparlack brand. It will help to ensure that the sculptures remain integrated into the museum’s natural landscape, preserving their shapes, textures and durability against the elements and the passage of time – without altering their original characteristics. It’s the artist’s largest collection, which was created specifically for the museum.
