Whoops, sorry, I let this run a little late -- author and artist names are now revealed on the second EX Mode collection! Participants, you are now welcome to answer comments and repost your works anywhere you like.

Thank you all for playing and making this the absolute smoothest challenge round I've ever run anywhere. ♥

You are all AWESOME.

For the first time in all the years that I've been running challenges, nobody needed a pinch hit.

Works are now live! If you were a participant, you should get an automated email from the archive about the work remixed for you. Whether you were a participant or not, I encourage you to go take a look at the whole collection, because we have some awesome stuff in store.

Thank you to everyone who played for making this run so well! ♥

(The collection will be anonymous until Friday, so hold off on answering your comments until then. ^^)

Quick reminder, for players in this round of EX Mode -- the remix deadline is just two days out now! (Well, two days + some hours.)

Thank you and congratulations to the people who have already posted their works -- if you're still working, good luck!

If you need to drop out, you can do that through the AO3's system; just go to the collection home page, click "Your Assignment" on the left, and then hit the "Default" button at the bottom of your assignment page.

I am cheering for everyone who's still working! There is awesome stuff already in this round, and there will only be more. ♥

My problem with the auto-matching seems to be a tricky one, but with a small round it didn't take too outrageously long to match by hand.

You should have your assignments coming to you soonish! Check your email, and check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive. You can also always find it by going to the collection home page and clicking the "my assignment" link on the left.

If there is a mistake in matching please let me know immediately! It is entirely possible for human error to creep in when I'm tabbing back and forth from the signup list to the assigning page. If you've been assigned to somebody who doesn't actually share your fandoms, drop me a comment or a PM and I will get it straightened out as fast as I can.

Good luck with your assignments, all! I hope you got good ones. :3

Hey all! Signups for EX Mode have closed, and I *think* there should be a match for everyone.

HOWEVER, the automated matching software is currently telling me that everyone matches everyone else, which is pretty clearly not the case. I have a support request in to the AO3 to figure out whether I need to change a setting I can't find. If I don't hear back from them within a few hours, or if it turns out there's a bug in the software that won't have a quick fix, I'll sit down with my logic puzzle hat on and try to get you all matched by hand.

More info to come when I have it!

...Actually per the schedule they should be closing in three hours, but since I was kind of a failboat and didn't post reminders until now, have a little extra time!

I will close signups, check links, and then generate matches tomorrow; expect the signup form to close at noon, US Pacific time -- converted here to your time zone -- which is about 19 hours from this post.

here's the signup form, so you don't even have to go looking!

EX Mode video game fandom remix signups are open!

Sign up here between now and February 3.

The FAQ was written last year; let me know if you have other questions.

If you need an AO3 account, leave me a comment or send me a PM with your email address, and I'll get an invite sent to you.

If you're confused about how a remix challenge works, the fanlore remix article provides a pretty good overview, though note that we allow art as well as fic, so their descriptions aren't quite expansive enough to cover all cases here.

Please note that after some problems last year, I will be checking URLs to make sure you have enough remixable works. If you sign up with a placeholder URL, make sure you enter content for it by the end of the signup period! Otherwise your signup may be rejected.

So, about a year ago we had a video game fandom REMIX challenge: EX Mode, open to writers and artists, creating work inspired by each other's existing works. (Lots more info on how this works at the link.)

Last year we had just barely enough participants to make matching work, so my question is, who's up for it this year?

I'm looking at timing that's probably similar to last year's -- signups in the latter half of January, then a creation period that runs through mid-March. That's not entirely set in stone, though, so if shifting it by a few weeks would help, let me know!

If your answer is "maybe," then please let me know if there's anything I could do to make it more likely to turn into "yes." ^^

And that's a wrap! Thank you all for another lovely round -- I am always impressed at the wonderful things you all make for each other in this challenge. <3

I am also happy to report that limiting the fandom spread in signups did not wind up costing us in final diversity; we had 26 players and I had to add tags for 5 new fandoms during posting. So yay for that!

You are now welcome and encouraged to reply to the comments posted here and repost your works wherever you'd like. If you post to the AO3, remember we do have a collection for this challenge; here's the Round 3 subcollection. (If you would like an account at the AO3 and don't want to wait in the currently daunting queue for an invite, let me know; I have a few invite codes that I requested for the sake of challenge participants.)

And now, the master list!

Title: Ai
Recipient: [personal profile] roseargent
Fandom: Shin Megami Tensei – Persona 4
Characters/pairing: Ai Ebihara / Naoto Shirogane
Rating: PG, really.
Warnings: None.
Notes: Ai has proven to be interesting to write. I had a number of different ideas for her, but I thought this one was the best fit for the challenge. :-) Enjoy!

Title: Swords of the Land
Recipient: [personal profile] owlmoose
Fandom: Dragon Age: Origins
Characters/Pairing: Warden/Alistair
Rating: worksafe
Prompt: Alistair really does miss "the whole darkspawn-killing thing". So he sneaks out to have an adventure (perhaps with the Warden?), with predictable results.
Note: This is the first time I have ever written anything for Dragon Age, but I'm pretty confidant about Alistair's voice.

Title: What the Porn
Recipient: subtext
Fandom: Mass Effect 2
Characters/pairing: Commander Shepard (female, renegade), Fornax staff
Rating: PG-13 (language, disappointment at lack of sex acts)
Warnings: one non-sentient plant brutally and gratuitously murdered. General renegade-flavor douchebaggery and foulmouthedness.
Summary/teaser/thumbnail: Shepard's on a mission so secret not even she knows what's up--a mission to the Fornax offices on Kahje, no less. How the hell can a trip to Hot Xenosex Headquarters in Big Stupid Jellyfish land turn out to be business as usual?

Title: Arise
Recipient: [personal profile] mako_lies
Fandom: Final Fantasy XII
Characters/pairing: Basch & Vossler, Balthier & Fran

Summary: In which Vossler is the prize at the end of the Great Crystal.

Title: Crossing Paths
Recipient: [personal profile] vonuberwald
Fandom: Suikoden I/II/V
Characters/pairing: Flik/Viktor, Prince Falenas, Euram Barrows, Georg Prime
Rating: Teen (some kissing and implied canoodling ^_~)
Warnings: Although consensual, there is some drinking prior to the implied canoodling (just in case that's a trigger). Also, mentions of off-screen character death.
Summary/teaser/thumbnail: Self-recriminations are the hardest things to find forgiveness for, especially when there's a mercenary reunion happening at your back.
Disclaimer: The Suikoden series is the property of Konami.

Timeline/Canon note: This takes place about three years after Suikoden II (which makes it fourteen years after V). The Suikoden V canon is based on the "bad" ending, and takes liberties with what happens in Falena farther down the road. There is also a lot of back-story that didn't make it into the fic, but if I did my job right, it should be self-contained.

Recipient: [personal profile] cypher
Fandom: Radiant Historia
Characters/pairing: Selvan/Dias
Rating: PG

Summary/teaser/thumbnail: Selvan knew Dias, if only by reputation. That was about to change. Tonight, they finally meet in person.

Title: Cross Purposes
Recipient: [personal profile] loquacious
Fandom: Devil May Cry (specifically DMC4)
Characters/pairing: Dante/Nero
Rating: Mature for explicit m/m sex scenes.
Summary/teaser/thumbnail: Dante seems happy enough to have Nero staying at Devil May Cry, which Nero is ridiculously grateful for given his experiences in Fortuna. So grateful in fact, that he's not going to risk any of his new-found happiness by reading anything further into Dante's random displays of affection, and he certainly isn't going to ask for anything more when Dante's already given him so much.
