A major milestone for the steam turbine project we are delivering at ArcelorMittal Belgium. On July 7, the 7.5-ton steam turbine and 9-ton generator were successfully installed in their final position at the ArcelorMittal Belgium site in Ghent. Using a 200-ton crane, this impressive lifting operation was carried out by LIFTHING, safely and according to plan. In just 1 hour and 15 minutes, all components were in place. The installation of the 1.3 MW turbine marks another important step in an innovative energy project we are delivering at the ArcelorMittal Belgium site in Ghent. The plant will convert high-pressure steam from sludge treatment into green electricity and valuable process steam for steel production, contributing to improved energy efficiency and further CO₂ reduction. This project is being realized within FINARMIT, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by FINEG to finance sustainability projects at ArcelorMittal Belgium. By recovering energy that would otherwise be lost, the project demonstrates how industrial partnerships can accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable industry.
