My name is Jane Foster. And if I'm remembering everything correctly, which I can hardly believe, then I've been here before. That being the case, there are a few people I need to talk to. You'll know who you are.

For those who don't know me, you might remember a spectacularly failed attempt at escaping the enclosure some time ago. (Sorry for the vague time frame. I haven't figured out yet how long I've been gone.) For anyone who arrived after that time, I'm an astrophysicist who specializes in wormholes. Well, it's more complex than that, I also study quantum energy fluctuations and related terrestrial phenomena pretty much all over the world - Earth, I mean. Earth. Earth in 2013, for anyone curious. Sorry, this is getting off topic.

In a nice turn of events, I didn't wake up outside, so no search and rescue needed this time.

I guess, um.

Hi, everyone. Old and new. It's - weird to be back.

[ Once she's done writing that plain, unembellished message, Jane shuts her journal and sighs, staring at the blank wall opposite her. Thank the powers at be for small blessings, like waking up warm and comfortable for once instead of half-frozen on a forest floor.

Since the apartment in which she awoke is one of the unclaimed ones, there's nothing really here for her to make use of - or, alternatively, disturb. So a short while later she is slipping out the door, walking on tip-toe down the halls and stairways, though she'll pause at the entrance of the building. She doesn't relish the idea of going out in the cold barefoot and in only a sundress. So she'll skulk about there, deliberating while checking her journal periodically for responses. Anyone who doesn't immediately strike her as Overtly And Comically Evil will probably get a hello. ]

Billy: )

Hi, um-- hey everyone. Wow, it's -- been a while. Iiii'd say sorry but you can all blame the Malnosso for this one. How long have I even been gone?

[ Protip: about a month. She got picked up on the 20th of April. ]

Hey... I'm back too. I don't think it's been that long, though.

[ Hey, that sure does sound like Billy Kaplan. ]

What day is it? You know what, that's probably not important. Can I get, like -- a status report or something? Everyone still present and accounted for? [ quietly, aside: ] Billy, can you help me up? Where are we?

Sorry, here-- let me just do a quick location spell.

[ 10 seconds of silence later: ]

... Billy? Is ... something wrong?

Ow. Okay, no location spell. I think we're just outside town, though…

Wow. Okay. That sure bodes well. Let's see how far we can get on our own...

[ The journal shuts. They'll both be checking it for replies, though.

Fifteen or twenty minutes later will find them roughly in the center of the village, sitting down on a bench, Jane blindfolded and Billy otherwise normal. They're talking quietly to each other, though anyone who knows them will see they're both a bit tense. Of course, you won't have to know them at all to see that things are somewhat…. amiss.

First of all, there's a sizable flotilla of rubber duckies in the fountain. And the trail they took into the village is really noticeable, because all the trees and plants in their wake have turned unnatural, neon shades. They seem fine otherwise, aside from being highlighter yellow and neon pink.

Also, the bench they're sitting on is now covered in polka dots.

Jane gestures emphatically, and precisely half the water in the fountain turns into green jello. Precisely half; the rest is still normal water. She only has the good grace to look sheepish when an alarmed Billy informs her in a harsh whisper of what just happened. Seems like she's still blind.

Risk talking to these two and their apparently shared misfortune of haywire reality bending powers? ]

(ooc; MALLYNAP EFFECT! Jane and Billy/[personal profile] selfhelp are now splitting Billy's reality bending powers, but all they can do is misfire in random wacky ways. This will be temporary, of course! To be resolved within a week or two. ALSO, the effects themselves are temporary - the fountain, for instance, will only be half jello for a couple hours at most. In the meantime, shenanigans. And yes, Jane is still unable to see and still wears a blindfold over her eyes as a result.

Anyway: feel free to specify in the header of your comment who you want, Jane or Billy or both! For the journal portion OR the action portion. Go nuts.)

[ Jane's hands fly to her face as she gasps, pawing at her eyes. Her sudden flurry of movement, sitting up and reaching out blindly, has overturned her journal. It's landed on the floor now, fallen open and started to record. Nothing can be seen but the ceiling, a piece of her bed and a bedside table, but much can be heard. ]

It's dark. Oh my god. Why is it so dark?! What's going on?!

Jane. Jane, please, you must-

I can't see! [ She starts to sob, hysterical and terrified. ] I can't see anything!

[ The sound of approaching footsteps grows louder, and abruptly the journal is, accidentally, kicked away. The recording ends there.

Much later, the journal will open again. In the intervening time she's been calmed down and made to rest. The illness a broken wing can induce is no small matter. But she's conscious and no longer panicking. She sounds pretty awful when she addresses the journal, though. She has no idea her earlier freakout was recorded. ]

... I wish I knew what to say. I just ... don't. We failed. I'm ... sorry to everyone we involved.

[ A beat. ] ... I'll be staying in the clinic for another day or two. That's, um. That's it.

(ooc; green text is Thor. It will only be Jane replying, though, and only at the time of the later broadcast. Anyone who wants to visit her in the clinic can do so in this post for the dates between the 17th and the 19th. Just label the date, please.)

[ Jane has, slowly but surely, been adding things to do to her life outside of working nigh-obsessively on her Get The Fuck Out Of Luceti project with Tony.

Today, she takes a break from her routine of staring at pages and pages of complicated astrophysics notes and data and occasionally chipping in new design documents for the machine they're building and heads out to actually do something else.

First, she heads to the Battle Dome. She spends several hours there, running two separate simulations. The first is based on her varied attempts on star charts of Luceti's skies. It does not go spectacularly well, considering those stars are fake. The simulation she creates is rather in depth - it leaves her standing in a dark sea of stars, and she wanders among them, occasionally jotting down notes in a little black notebook she's carrying. A couple of times she can't help a delighted smile. If only this technology existed at home.

The second simulation is a little less galactic in nature. In fact, it's rather mundane, all things considered: she's turned it into a firing range. Wolfwood started teaching her how to handle a firearm, and she's practicing now, shooting earmuffs on and stance correct. She's not a great shot, but she's not horrible either, and you know what they say - practice makes perfect.

Later, she simply heads out to the woods, not very far at all outside the village. It's freezing, but she's finds it's easier to concentrate out here than it is indoors. She clears some snow off a log and can be found out there for about an hour and a half, practicing with the spirits. She took Yoh's advice rather to heart and has been having more and more luck. She practices with Nala, Eferin, Sona, and Kipinn, little bursts of magic dancing around her, much to her delight. She's not very good at it just yet - but she's good enough to at least make it happen, and the feeling is incredible.

Lastly, she heads to the library to pick up some new books before heading home. She's in a fairly cheerful mood most of the day and, barring some sort of disastrous accidental run in with Loki, will be in good spirits to anyone who happens to run into her. ]

[ Her handwriting is sloppy and choppy and completely unrecognizable as her own. She has the presence of mind to make sure she cannot be seen by the camera. This portion is, for all intents and purposes, anonymous. ]

God. They don't have therapists here, do they? I need a shrink. I bet a lot of people here do.

God, just. Do you ever just have a moment when you really need someone to talk to but you don't have any idea who or how or where to even begin?

[ Two hours later she has calmed down and made a decision. Voiced: ]

( Locked 100% | Pepper )

I know this is basically the worst possible time, but I don't know who else I could even go to. I need help.

[ She sounds a little upset, but not like she's in any immediate danger. ]

[ The feed starts before she intends it to - of course. It's pretty mundane. There's the sound of a door opening and shutting, a sigh, and items being shuffled as they're put down on a surface. The journal ends up open on top of the pile, and there's a sideways view of Jane pushing her hair back and starting to pull it up into a ponytail before she noticed the journal. ]

Oh! [ She leans over it, continuing to tie her hair back before her ponytail is nice and secure, and she finally picks the journal up. ] Sorry. Just, uh-- I'm back? [ Slightly sheepish smile. ] I didn't mean to take off like that, but, uh -- short notice on my mission. What did I miss?

[ She left the day before the draft announcement, so she seriously has no idea anything happened at all. Somewhat musingly, to herself: ]

The 3rd? Wow. I missed Halloween. Not that I've celebrated it since I was, like, nineteen.

[ The feed cuts there.

Hours later will find her sitting on the roof of her building, letting her legs dangle off the edge as she stares into the setting sun. By now she has heard quite a lot about what she's missed. It's chilled her in a number of ways, and left her ... thinking. Thinking a lot about something Billy told her months ago.

Maybe it's time to try. ]

So. Aaaanyone have experience with the, uh, spirits? Or ... whatever they're called. I think it's time I started -- broadening my skills.

[ ... ] Speaking of. If I wanted to learn medicine, where would I start? Like... say... nurse training. That sort of thing.

[ It takes her some time to wake up, when they return her. Her body is so week. She feels so tired. And it feels like it's been years since she's seen anything but grey and white and steel.

She can see the sky. She stares at it for a little while, eyelids fluttering as she struggles to keep awake and remember that if she can see that, she needs to be doing something. Moving. But she just doesn't want to. Everything hurts. Her body aches in a way she didn't know it could.

It's a very painful, grueling process, but she manages to pull herself up to sit against a tree and laboriously pull out her journal. She flicks on the video function, and the sight of her isn't a pleasant one. The paleness of her skin and the dark circles under her eyes are the least of it. There's a hollowness to her cheeks, a wideness to her eyes, that suggests illness. Something very wrong.

She looks like she hasn't eaten in days. ]

I, um. [ She lifts a hand, pressing it into her eye. ] I could use help. Soon. I'm -- so tired. I'm...

... is that water?

[ Of course, then she drops the journal. It records the tree canopy and the sky through it for a while. Then it just abruptly cuts off.

Well, that's worrying.

Much later, at least an hour - probably two - she'll reopen the journal, and it's obvious now she's in the clinic. She looks basically not at all better, but she's trying. ]

Sorry. I-- I'm fine. I will be. [ A breath out. ] So that's a Malnosso kidnapping, huh? [ Her mouth twists, wry. ] I -- really get now why they're not popular.

[ Then she just sighs, resting her head back against her pillows and shutting her eyes. She's just -- you know. She'll be fine. A week's starvation never hurt anybody. ]

[ A deep breath. ]

Ooookay. So it looks like I'm back. I'm -- already settled, so that's one thing. Tony? I want my stuff back. Is -- anyone else I met last time still around?

[ A beat, and she laughs. ] It's surreal. It's really surreal, ending up in this place twice. Hi, Luceti. For those who don't know me, my name is Jane Foster. I definitely don't need the run down, since I'm not exactly new or anything, and I got a cliff notes version of what happened while I was gone.

So... maybe I'll do this a little differently. There's something I want to know that I didn't get around to asking, last time.

Has anyone here traveled between worlds? Or through time? Or both? I'd -- really like to hear about it.

This is a repost of Jane's original first entry, which can be found here. All comments are obviously there.

[ It takes Jane a long while to settle down to this first ... whatever. Video? Journal entry? Something. She has clothes - not her own, but clothes nonetheless - and even a small bag of food, to take with her when she goes to find ... well. Someplace to stay. Stay, not live. This won't be home. It can't be.

She sighs heavily, puffing her cheeks out on a hard breath as she flips through the pages. An hour or two of reading have acquainted her with how the system works, as bizarre as it is. She sounds tired, when she speaks, a sort of bone weary ache. ]

Alright. So the journal is some sort of half-book half-iPad technomagical means of communicating, aaaaand this place gives you wings. [ A beat. ] There's a cheesy Red Bull ad in there somewhere, but I'm not going there.

[ A pause. Stay on track for three seconds, why don't you? ]

Sorry, I-- my name is Jane Foster. I'm a astrophysicist with SHIELD, if that means anything to anyone. Well, more like a researcher, but -- anyway. I just really hope that means something to someone. It'd be nice to at least -- I don't know. Have a familiar face from my own world. Or universe. I'm guessing universe.

[ Another pause, shorter. ] So how many versions of Earth are there, here? I'm going to guess at least a dozen. Maybe several dozen, who knows. And probably plenty of other worlds besides. From who knows how many different universes. And yet here we all are. [ She laughs, incredulous and kind of unhappy. ] This place is somehow the special one. I'd just -- love to know how they do it, really. Someone's going to tell me it's magic, and I just--

[ She finally stops, sighing again. ]

Sorry, sorry. Um -- hi. Nice to ... meet all of you, I guess.

None of this is official. Just what I believe about Jane's life, based here and there on hints dropped in Thor.

This is subject to revision if I change my mind, js. But most of this is pretty solidly what I've got in mind for her.
