A bit of _Slippery Creatures_ from Kim Secretan's point of view.

Thanks to brutti_ma_buoni for the opportunity to write this! I enjoyed very much spending some time inside Kim's head. I'd love to continue it past Yuletide, if given the opportunity.

I really did want to carry Kim's POV through to the end of the book, but 2020 wouldn't let me. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

FWIW, this is the first thing marked E that I've published to kouredios's AO3 account. Heh.

Hello Good Morning! Happy December! JFC, I haven't posted much this year.

It's okay. I'm here for a Yuletide post. Everything else can wait.

I received 3 gifts this year! It was great! And probably due to the fact that I requested one of the tiny source weirdo canons. ๐Ÿ˜

Neil grows up. He never really grows out of Whitman.

I asked for a story in which Neil survives (the gays get their happy endings was a major theme of my requests this year), preferably with Todd's love and support, and this story not only delivered that, but also has Neil going back to Welton to teach English and be the teacher he needed (better than Keating managed to do). And the Whitman! Oh, this is so lovely. If you remember Dead Poets Society at all, you should check this out.

I wasn't worried about Allie's thesis defense. She had her sword and a powerful magical charm, and her thesis advisor liked her. But I only had two of those three things going for me.

I really just wanted to see the snake eat my advisor, y'all. AND I GOT TWO STORIES THAT DO THAT.
This one has an intricate world-building with magic, amulets, and charms. It's so great! AND THE SNAKE EATS HER ADVISOR.

Summary:

You had to fight a big snake for your thesis defense. One of the largest ones you'd ever seenโ€”and you'd attended plenty of defenses, seen the fear in the doctoral candidates' eyes as they sought out their snake in the shadows. You don't actually know if it's the biggest snake the facilities department had to offer, because they don't like to give out that much information. But it was a very big snake indeed.

And this one, oh. Hit me where I live. It gets academia, and the pettiness of an advisor that keeps sending you corrections after a successful defense, FOR 2 YEARS. OMG, so satisfying.

I'll do a separate post for other recs. It seems I'm really only in the mood for KJ Charles and the Cordelia poster, so let me know if you're into that. lol.

Finally filled out my "dear yuletide writer" post, 5 days later, so feel free to go read it if you like!

Uuuuggggghhhhh it took me 5 days to get back to this. Everything's on fire and I can't concentrate :(

Okie, going to start with what I put in the sign-up:

Dead Poets Society, Neil/Todd

I just really want a happy ending for Neil. Neil/Todd would be even better. What I'd really REALLY like is for Todd and Neil to fall in love, support each other, and for Neil to be able to say no to his father and live happily ever after, with Todd or after him.

DNW any actual suicide or queerbashing. I have a queer teen trans son who has made multiple attempts, and I cannot deal. But making Neil's life better would make my life better considerably. :)

Code Name Verity, Maddie Brodatt/Julie Beaufort-Stuart

I'm just all about the happy ever after endings for queer ships, I guess. DON'T KILL MY GAYS. LET THEM LIVE. HAPPILY. EVER. AFTER.

This is how you Lose the Time War, Red/Blue

Just. I want to see these two able to be together and in love. That's all I ask. It's pretty much the theme of this Yuletide for me. LET THEM ALL BE HAPPY.

FAQ: The "Snake Fight" Portion Of Your Thesis Defense (McSweeney's Post) - Luke Burns

So, I have a doctorate. And I did a dissertation defense (and I brought a fake snake to fight.) This piece has been part of my PhD program's lore for a while.

I ALSO had an abusive thesis advisor who kept piling more corrections on me so that it took 2 YEARS after my SUCCESSFUL defense to be able to submit.

So, what I'm saying is, I'd like to see the snake eat my advisor.

***end of official request stuff***

Ugh. As you know, there's a pandemic on and mental health is a big priority. I need happy. I need happy ending for queer ships. I have been reading SO MUCH fic and queer romance novels, just glutting my id with happy endings. It will clearly never be satisfied. I need more.

So I guess I'm looking mostly for warm fuzzies. Warm fuzzies with sex is also good. Is, in fact, part of my definition of warm fuzziness. I'm especially fond of sex with FEELINGS, but I don't require smut. (Not for Yuletide, anyway ๐Ÿ˜‰)

My major DNWs are death (especially suicide), child harm, any kind of non-consensualness, and deliberate misunderstandings as lazy plot device. I ADORE found family, hypercompetence, and pining that doesn't rely on stupidity to remain pining.

I will take questions! Feel free to talk to me anon if you are my writer, and thank you thank you thank you for writing for me this year! It's been 10 years since my first Yuletide, and I'm really looking forward to it this year (as I'm sure we all are!)
