Snowflake challenge days 4-6

Day 4: Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.
I had some new people comment here because of my Dan & Phil posts, and I've followed someone new on tumblr as a result, yay!
Day 5: Promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.
So, back to the three fandoms I'm actively reading in right now: Dan & Phil, Yuri On Ice, and Harry Potter.
The Phandom has a monthly fic fest, with challenges, fests, and gift exchanges. I haven't participated yet (I love reading RPF now, but I'm not sure I've gotten to the point where I can write it comfortably, which is probably worth doing some rumination on). It's mostly tumblr-based, ofc, but it's also based in the AO3. However, each fest has its own distinct collection. The most recent one is:
https://archiveofourown.org/collections/PFFexchange2018
https://phandomficfests.tumblr.com/ for the whole community.
My best rec for YOI-based blog is https://theficrecfairy.tumblr.com/
They do an excellent job finding fics on any theme you request, and I generally enjoy everything they rec.
Finally, for the Drarry reading I've been doing lately, what I recommend is to go to the AO3, click on the Draco/Harry relationship tag, and then sort your results by bookmarks. This way you get a sense of the HP fandom's favorite stories in that pairing. Even if you were reading it back in its heyday, you'll see that the very top story in that sort is from 2017. Maybe you'll find something you missed doing it this way, and the fandom has already done the work of finding a bunch of the cream. (I'm not saying all the best stories float to the top this way, or that all of these stories are the very best, just that it's a good first filter, especially when the fandom is huge.)
Day 6: Create a fannish wish list.
Honestly, the thing I want most in the world is for really talented vidders to discover Dan and Phil and use their considerable talents on the wealth of YouTube and non-YouTube footage to make more real vids for me in this fandom. There are "edits," which I've noted before, and some of them are quite enjoyable. But there's a real dearth of traditional vid-style vids.
This one's the closest thing I've seen recently to a "traditional" vid, with an actual POV and a bit of narrative:

Date: 2019-09-07 07:40 am (UTC)Interesting thought about vids! You probably saw on my post that I'm working on a vid for just the gaming channel right now, and I did think I was going to have some issues with talky-face and not enough movement... but honestly, it's been smooth sailing so far - even more-so than some of the action movies I've vidded! I think it helps that they do a lot of funny effects and zooms, meaningful glances, and exaggerated reactions, and that there's just so much content. Some videos are much easier to work with than others, though (like, spooky week and most Switch game videos are goldmines - but not-so-much the quiz-taking ones).
That said, I haven't really sought out vids for them other than compilations, which is kinda fascinating because I LOVE vids and usually am not-so-much into compilations for most fandoms. I think in this case, it's due to the fact that their banter and verbal humor are such large parts of what makes them so compelling to watch. It also might be what you said - that traditional vids for them are just harder to stumble across, so I watch what I see coming up on my YT recs.

Date: 2019-09-07 11:49 am (UTC)The vid convo has actually evolved into a conference paper that we're going to give next month. I've got lots more thoughts on this topic that should probably go into a new post, but one of the things I'm thinking about lately is how some of the vids I find most interesting are the ones that incorporate instastories, which is one of the ways the boys have been letting us keep up with what they're up to, even when they're not posting regularly (i.e., right now.) Definitely make sure you're following them on instagram and check out when they post stories. Also, the fans on tumblr collect their daily instastories and post them on youtube to preserve an archive. The ones from last year's tour are the most delicious, but the lastest ones (they've adopted a beta! Dan went overboard researching the nitrogen cycle and designing the tank!) are also golden.
