JagTag Xtra Time (Presented by Gallagher) was established in 2021 as a positional skills-based programme which provides a complementary pathway to elite level American football programmes, across the UK and Ireland.
The Jaguars fully inclusive entry programme JagTag 101, progresses to JagTag – the Jaguars own bespoke version of Flag football, and subsequently to JagTag Xtra Time which can be the entry route to elite pathways including the NFL Academy and GB/Irish National Teams. Since its introduction, the Jaguars UK have developed over 400 young people through the Xtra Time initiative.
The primary goal of Xtra Time is to progress individuals through the positional skills required at the highest level of the sport, with the ambition of contributing to the continued development of the standard of the game across the UK and Ireland.
Player pathway objectives are a large part of this programme as we assist with the transition of young people into National Teams and Academies in their areas. In addition, we aim to improve the standard of coaching by collaborating with exceptional coaches in the UK and Ireland and develop less experienced coaches.
In 2021 we welcomed delivery partners XL Performance and Justice Academy, as leaders in the field of performance training to offer free, elite level training to players currently involved in the British American Football Association (BAFA) leagues, or those who have graduated through our JagTag programme.
The JagTag Xtra Time initiative aims to assist existing British and Irish American Football players between the ages of 13-17 years, with weekly high-level performance training sessions, that in association with funding partners, we are able to offer free of charge.
With almost 100,000 young people engaged in our JagTag programme across the UK, we are thrilled to be in our third year of this elite training provision for all players keen on advancing their skills as they progress with the sport.

JagTag XtraTime Launch in Northern Ireland
We are very excited to announce the launch of JagTag XtraTime (Presented by Gallagher) in Northern Ireland. The Jaguars UK grassroots American football programme kicked off in November 2024, and this initiative aims to deliver higher level grassroots training in and around Northern Ireland area to participants aged 13-17.
Working with our delivery partner Community Sports Network (CSN) and American Football Ireland (AFI), CSN will establish the link between JagTag Xtra Time hubs and pathways into the AFI club that are attached to the area, creating Jaguars branded JagTag Xtra Time Pathway Clubs. The programme is steered and guided by high level coaches in a club environment. This directly supports pathways to AFI clubs with the eventual aim of forming U14s and U17s clubs.
The next level from our entry JagTag programme, JagTag XtraTime aims to progress participants to elite pathway programmes in and around the UK. Working with local American football clubs and delivery provider Community Sports Network (CSN) in Northern Ireland, these training sessions take place over 32 weeks throughout the year.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are the only NFL team in Ireland with direct pathways to junior teams and are committed to help facilitate community events at various points throughout the year.
