2022 in music
Jan. 4th, 2023 05:03 pmi made a list of my top kpop songs of the year awhile ago but then my last.fm 2022 report came out, so i guess i'll throw them both together
top 25 kpop songs of the year
25. wildside - red velvet
24. ring the alarm - kard
23. halazia - ateez
22. los angeles - seulgi
21. illusion - aespa
- not the halazia sneak... i had to do some rearranging and originally i was just gonna add it last but then i remembered the yeosang prechorus which is literally the best thing i've ever listened to. for a few days this was the only song i listened to which does not actually give it many points in its favor because it's not..the most loopable song BUT it is probably up there w my fav atz tts
- i am partial to songs about california but los angeles was my favorite from the album from the first listen. i got jumpscared by the edm chorus the first listen but seulgi's voice is so seductive and alluring that it all balances out
- no i am not immune to aespa.... i don't actually think i listened to illusion when it came out but i was surprised that i actually vibed with it after girls was released. obsessed as always with winter's pronunciation
20. for - yoohyeon
19. love countdown - nayeon
18. 0g - fromis_9
17. antifragile - le sserafim
16. beg for me - red velvet
- it's honestly kinda upsetting that dc's new stuff hasn't been hitting for me because up until because era (airplane...) i would be able to say i liked every single song in their discography. but i'm so happy with this yoohyeon solo *_* main slayer forever for real
- i didn't get 0g back in january but just recently i've been listening to it a lot! city pop is always so good. i just love their voices in this
- my one wish is to never have to spell le sserafim ever again in my life... i like how catchy and upbeat antifragile is - it really gets to you one way or another. and chaewon and yunjin o_o plus i had to get behind it when they got hit by an asteroid in the mv
15. heart burn - sunmi
14. play - yuju
13. talk that talk - twice
12. ash - seventeen
11. spice - itzy
- i only ever got into gfriend because of mago and then they disbanded, but i remember being a little in love with yuju for a hot second
- i'm so glad twice came out with talk that talk! my favorite from them for sure since i can't stop me (aka when i started keeping up with them)
- with both hot and ash this genre of bg music has seriously grown on me tbh ๐ค maybe i like this one so much because it could be an ateez song.
- i used to pray for times like these... itzy finally beating the can't release a good song allegations?!
10. cheese - fromis_9
9. sour grapes - le sserafim
8. love dive - ive
7. done - wjsn
6. cyberpunk - ateez
- it's me, the biggest from our memento box enjoyer around?? anyone else a stay this way apologist?? this cb was actually everything TO ME. what favorite groupism does to a mf... actually i don't really know the general consensus on this, only that the mv was like shoddily filtered or something which i didn't even notice and am willing to let slide. i got the album and even though i do have some complaints about the actual physical album i can't exactly argue with my hakkowon pulls or the poster i didn't realize i would get, i guess. i think i got hooked with cheese from the highlight medley because of the chaeyoung chorus ^_^
- the first time i heard sour grapes it was actually because my roommate was playing it and i had to shazam it because i was in my i-don't-really-care-to-know-anything-about-this-rookie-group phase with lsf
- whenever i listen to done i think about how someone called it h&m music. probably an accurate representation of my music taste tbh. also i can't believe this was their first group cb since UNNATURAL? that feels like so long ago
- wow i can't believe cyberpunk is the only song ateez released this year???? i hate wooyoung for making me listen to guerrilla...
5. super yuppers! - wjsn chocome
4. young luv - stayc
3. dm - fromis_9
2. aquamarine - lee chaeyeon
1. opening sequence - txt
- super yuppers because OBVIOUSLY... this was the perfect cb for them and i especially love the instrumental
- i didn't even realize i liked young luv that much until it was my most streamed song this year
- while making this list i originally was automatically gonna be like DM SOTY but sike?? the amount of people i know who don't even stan fromis but had a stretch of time where dm was their most listened to song though <3
- look, i didn't care to know anything about izone when they were together BUT NOW the izone girlies are slowly infiltrating my life??? first yujin stole my lunch money, then chaeyeon broke into my house, and THEN chaewon held me at gunpoint???? stay safe out there guys.... but seriously, the vampire concept photos for this were tooooo good
- i'm just as shocked as you are that txt managed to sneak to the top of this list!!?? how did a bg get in here ๐คจ this i am certain about though because whenever i listen to it i'm like yeah. this is totally #1

THIS IS SO SAD they basically said: your music taste this year GOT WORSE. compared to 2021 i didn't really branch out much and listened to the same 5 artists. usually i'm either listening to my most recent liked songs or any one of my playlists for individual artists because i can't actually make playlists that i'll listen to :( one thing i want to try to do is listen to a wider selection of songs/albums + make playlist/s i actually listen to so i can up my listening minutes/scrobbles, because sometimes i just turn my music off bc i don't know what to listen to / get tired of listening to the same things in rotation. i also would really like to listen to more stuff in different languages (besides kpop) because there's something nice about it even as a [guy who is monolingual]. i don't know the best methods for discovering new music but recently i've discovered the neighbors tab in last.fm which shows u people with similar music taste so maybe my future holds more stalking of random last.fm profiles
fun fact: my last song of 2022 was cat & dog ๐ญ my friends introduced it to me recently and um. i feel like it shouldn't be allowed to be as good as it is. also hmmm i don't know what difference it would make but i downloaded a ton of unreleased crj during thanksgiving break and i've been listening to that a lot since then.

i only decided to finish this because i'm bored out of my mind.... i had a little of a crisis yesterday when i realized i only had 2 more weeks (instead of 3 like i thought) of winter break. there's no other media to round up because that would just be...sad. i want to be better about consuming media this year because i barely did last year. i don't know if i want to do a like, more personal wrap-up of 2022 because i do think it is a year worth writing about/reflecting on if i can put my two braincells together and try to remember enough of it. i definitely need to write in my actual journal sometime soon which i might just do instead... anyway, hopefully i don't just revert to my pre-existing library and i can discover at least more new music in the new year
