illariy: a woman opens a colourful letter (letter)
So the goal was to read 2 books during December.

Up till now, I have read 2, both for my career. I am however participating in [personal profile] fred_mouse's challenge for this week at [community profile] readingtogether and hope to make much progress in a third book which has been languishing for about a week now.

If you're up for a quick reading challenge, I highly recommend the linked post. :-)

So thanks to this comm, I am finally reading semi-regularly again.

The current challenge that helped me start again is finished now but I think there are going to be similar ones in the future so I am recommending the comm here now:

[community profile] readingtogether

P.S.: Reading their profile, it says you can use the comm to promote your own reading challenge so there is the option to DIY one. I would join ;-)

10 ways people are using the iPad to create content, not just to consume it" – beautiful! Painting, DJing, stop-motion images, writing and more.

Lang Lang playing Flight of the Bumblebee on the iPad gives me piano cravings, though. *sigh* XD

Detailed write-up of various scenarios with (at one point) locked posts. Conclusion: sometimes, pingback "catches" posts that are locked, if you changed the security level. This seems to vary, it was more problematic earlier when [livejournal.com profile] helen78 started the testing and has improved since. Still, if you want to be sure, best disable the pingback in the privacy settings.

Gorgeous art. The story fits right in with the film, too. ♥

Two kink-bingo ficlets by [personal profile] v_angelique
Something Lost, Something Gained, a Pike/Kirk/Spock ficlet with the kink "daddy kink"

Sensation & Perception, a Pike/Spock ficlet with nippleplay and melding. My favourite of the two. Cool take on these two after Pike's injury and the destruction of Vulcan.

Non-fannish article I enjoyed recently

Regrets of the Dying (via zenhabits' links)
It's surprisingly positive despite the title.

ST:TOS Spock/McCoy picspam by [livejournal.com profile] quiet_ingenue
As more than half the fun in Spock/McCoy is banter, it is extremely appropriate that this picspam contains select quotes from the pairing. :D

ST:Reboot Spock/Uhura vid "Obeying Your Law of Gravity" by IdiosyncraticCat
Song by Vienna Teng. Bittersweet vid.

Also delightful: Seeing great news from f-list scroll by. I love you all, guys! Rock on! ♥

Client: “We want every single upper case letter removed from the site and replaced with all lower case.”

Me: “Okay, that’s a lot of work. There are dozens, probably hundreds of instances of upper case letters on the site. Unfortunately, we’ll have to bill you for this.”

Client: “That’s fine.”

Me: “Can I ask why you only want lower case lettering?”

Client: “Because it’s cooler. Oh, and we want to make it a policy for the site — users are not allowed to use upper case letters either.”

Pike Tribute Re-Edited, by [livejournal.com profile] theoreticalpixy

The '59 Sound on youtube

That music is so fitting for Pike. Now I have ~thoughts~ about TOS Pike vs. Reboot Pike but as sometimes happens with my thoughts, they won't coalesce into verbal form. Such a fascinating character. *is stuck in nonverbal flail*

In the kinky shortfic department, [livejournal.com profile] syredronning wrote a beautiful, very satisfying fill for my prompt Pike/Spock/Gaila - object penetration, featuring a pre-Surakian sex toy. Guh. And for someone else's prompt, an equally beautiful fill Spock/McCoy/Uhura - strap-on. Double guh. This one has me really pining for more.

And then! [livejournal.com profile] anodyna drew Zombie!Pike for [livejournal.com profile] lymanalpha's birthday. Nnngnnn! As several commenters have pointed out, Zombie!Pike is still dangerously attractive. Also hungry, it seems. Donations of limbs gratefully accepted at the door. [livejournal.com profile] anodyna claims this is her first drawing with her new tablet. Makes one curious of what could come next, doesn't it? ;-)

[livejournal.com profile] knp01 drew It Ain't Easy Being Green, featuring Spock, Gaila and Keenser/Sandwich. Look at those fucking hipsters. :D I am kind of in love with the colouring. And Gaila's outfit. Seriously, if Spock has any taste, he'll invite her for a threesome. I would.

This last one no doubt all interested parties have already seen but on the off chance that someone hasn't I had to include it because I find it so gorgeous: Imperfect, a melancholic Reboot Spock/McCoy drawing by [livejournal.com profile] jou.

The erasure of female characters from a narrative is never feminist. Period. The end.

If you're only interested in writing about peen, go ahead, and work out how you feel about that with yourself. But please stop pretending you're doing this all for the ladies. You're not fooling anyone, except maybe yourself, and to the rest of us, it's just insulting.
→META: a quick note by [livejournal.com profile] rawles

My additions re only writing about the dicks on the dancefloor: If that's what you want in fandom, sure, it's fine, it's fun, we all have our own interests. But don't pretend it's ~for feminism~, for goodness's sake!

FIC: Coming up orchids by [personal profile] ineptshieldmaid
ST:AOS, Sulu and Gaila.
Author summarises: A daily life snapshot: Sulu grows orchids and sleepy Orions in his greenhouse.
Genfic with plants, Gaila, hot greenhouse, tickling! Has slight implications of Sulu/Chekov, perhaps, and maaaybe Spock/Uhura breakup? Very implied and I could be misinterpreting. Didn't bother me at all, though, just thought I'd mention it.

Hehe, some of those usages seem a bit useless and/or dangerous but maybe that's just me. The possibilities of tablet computers and velcro fill me with glee, though. :D

NYT article: The Data-Driven Life, on quantitative self-measurement and tracking in personal lives.

Reasons why I love fandom:

[livejournal.com profile] sesh_kem prompted "art nouveau" on Ship Wars. Genius prompt. *seal clapping noises of glee* It resulted in at least two fanworks to date:

Beneath Midnight Stars by [livejournal.com profile] lemonrocket. The artist says it didn't come out enough art nouveau for her liking and my admittedly art history-clueless self tends to agree but regardless of that, this is still something I would love to see as a wall painting. Gorgeous moment and gorgeous framing.

You've probably all seen the second one already... Art Deco style Spock/Uhura by [livejournal.com profile] lymanalpha. They are so glamorous! Dramatic colour and lighting choices and you've got to admire their attitudes in this painting. Spock in a suit, shit, son, give me a piece of that!

Spock-McCoy huggling for warmth by [livejournal.com profile] knp01, who you might remember from the recent pink tentacle drawing. A very sweet scene. [and yes, I'm totally linking you to the entry and not to the second cut tag so that you may see the tentacle hair in the first sketch :P]

[livejournal.com profile] cannedebonbon's K/S with tentacle peen! Very NWS, obviously. Go take a look, shiny green tentacles, you know you want to! XD And see, [livejournal.com profile] thisissirius wrote a story to go with it.

And now for a tamer link: Andrea Joseph's drawing blog. Non-fannish, she draws mundane objects, lots of mail and ephemera-related stuff. I am wildly in love with her crazy detailed ballpoint drawings. :D
illariy: entrance into a swimming pool (communication)
You guys have probably seen it already on account of it being made for shipwars and recced at [livejournal.com profile] crackenterprise but for those who've missed it:

The Buried Moon by [livejournal.com profile] starsandgraces and [livejournal.com profile] littlewolfstar
Chekov/Sulu, AU, for the fairy tale prompt.
An amazing collab: the team wrote the story and made their own music and fanart to go with the narration. This has got such a traditional folk feel. This is not my pairing at all but I couldn't help being drawn in (sorry) by this well-crafted piece. *fandom love*
