* I want to thank everyone who contributed to the Squirrel Fundraiser. They think they will be all right now.

* One of the things we got out of last week's marathon bureaucracy is Goth Millennial is getting paid to be my aid again. We also carved out eight hours a month for New Millennial. They started getting paid for their work Wednesday.

Let us hope I get to keep my home care aid hours. We should find out soon.

I took them both on Wednesday errands, which was delightful. I used the motorized cart and spent as much time as possible while waiting things in the car with my seat reclined, reading. When we got back I was exhausted, but we also needed to do a full sofa change for the second day in a row because the emperor is being above and beyond destructive just now.

Them: I haven't seen you this exhausted after errands in months.
Me: I kept having to use all the spoons last week. There is a price for that.

This is a reminder for those of you who are not disabled or are recently disabled that this is what pushing through DOES when you are disabled. Yes, the Millennials got their job stuff sorted out and I'm re-certified as still disabled (Every five years I need to prove to various agencies that my spine hasn't spontaneously regenerated to a pristine state, nor my joints, nor my lungs.) and I've shored up my SSI stuff best I can, and we got the cleaning done in time for both inspections, etc., etc. But I'm pretty much going to be fucked physically for a couple of weeks and I got way behind on EVERYTHING last week because there wasn't anything left most days so I kept going to bed hungry and very early and didn't do the stuff I can normally manage.

I am going to be paying and paying and paying.

Tavy did get a nice cuddle nap on me, then go sit on Goth Millennial for a while for pettins until the humans needed to rearrange themselves for dinner.

* Something has gone dramatically wrong with my bank account. I suspect paypal allowed a secret autowithdraw again at exactly the wrong time, which I will need to track down, as a bill I'd scheduled to pay with more than enough money in the account rather suddenly caused an overdraft. (I checked it wasn't Amazon prime randomly reactivating again, but it's a pain in the ass finding the right tab on paypal. I will do that next.) I had some cash I'd socked away at the beginning of the month in case I needed it for inspection cleaning. I put it back in in time to patch the hole, but when Insuarnce auto-withdraws hit, I am fucked. I think $70.00 would cover those plus fees.

The one time I was able to go to a big DC protest it was in support of Abortion Rights when there was a case before the Supreme Court (on a date!) in 1989. That time, we won.

If this passes, people die.

They are sacrificing people for the billionaires that bought them.

It is essential to contact your Reps, especially if they are "Freedom Caucus."

I know this is counter intuitive, but they are challenging from the extreme right. Maybe try something like: the tax cuts are driving up the debt. IDK, I'm bad at working out how they think. You know your Congress Critter best.Seriously, call in to all republican reps. Make whatever argument works if they ask for one. For regular republicans try: cutting medicaid really hurts seniors on Medicare too, as a lot have both, or something similar.

* Social Security call back last Monday was an obviously exhausted and beaten down sounding woman. I'm sure it's absolutely terrible over there with terrified and likely furious Seniors calling all day. I apologized for bothering her because the phone tree was gone. I was polite as it was possible to be and I also laced in appreciation for her hard work and all the hard work they do over there, sincerely meant.

At one point I gave a little cough as I was doing the thing where I slowly lower chest elevation in preparation for sleep. She started apologizing like I'd yelled. I felt terrible and told her she needn't apologize and it was just a cough. I reiterated that I new how slammed they must be and how difficult it all is. It really made me wonder how rough other callers were being with people who's livelihoods were threatened through no fault of their own, that she be so alarmed by a cough.

By the time I was thanking her for her public service and wishing her the best of luck at the end of the call there were a tiny bit of life in her voice.

It was a small thing, a tiny drop of the bucket, done in the same spirit that leads me to apologize to a customer service worker when the person ahead of me has been a dick because someone owes them a damned apology, and then crank up my politeness to eleven. Nobody deserves to be treated like that by a single asshole customer, let alone by their own government. I can't really fix that, but I can least do my best to convey that I see the other person as a human being and think they deserve better.

The treatment of government workers in this country makes me furious.

All I can do is signal boost and hope people keep fighting for them and for all of us.

* Tuesday I had one of my periodic mega torso muscle spasm things, which ate a couple hour until I could get it under control. Luckily is was after I ran a couple essential, time sensitive errands.

Wednesday I was still aftershocky, but at the minor inconvenience level. I did errands by myself as two Millennials were making their homemade lasagna on the grand scale. The lasagna was magical.

In other news, My Social Security didn't arrive. On two previous occasions when Republicans were dicking around with Social Security, it came a day or two late, but under the current circumstances it is extra concerning. Have I been declared dead? Deleted from the roles by a teenager who decided I was disabled enough? Or are payments just delayed by assholery, but not gone, gone? I actually have some hope it's just delay as I checked in with a friend on SSI who did get theirs.

Still, there is no way to fix it until my in person appointment and that will be too late for Housing auto-withdraw.

Let's all cross our fingers, shall we?

* My sleep schedule is still messed up, but luckily the meds disruption was only one day. (On time is ideal, but I don't have to be the kind of strict a lot of people do. Approximate works okay with most of my stuff. That said, three hours off on an anti-nausea medication is a special kind of unpleasant.)

Saturday, we did errands in the morning, because I'm not the only one dramatically sleep disrupted. They are no longer shopping like a hurricane is coming, but the drivers are dangerous and there is a different kind of panicky going on at the grocery store, which is hard to categorize. We were at the big ethical grocery (The Employee owned one), and I noticed they had way more people on shift than is usual for even the first weekend of the month, which suggests they've adjusted to the panic buying and anticipated both in ordering staple foods and staffing how people were going to react to Trump crashing the economy this week.

I still need to hit two more stores this week for things about to be in short supply that are important and necessary. I am exhausted.

We did do a little errand each for me and Goth Millennial for which the other stayed in the car because we were exhausted. We were supposed to go downtown, but had very little left and both had groceries to put away. (Goth Millennial is being jerked around again and hasn't been paid in almost a month for aid work. Things are getting pretty gnarly here at the Cat Asylum, but nothing can be done just yet as we have to wait on things out of our hands. *gestures at Trump and Musk setting the government on fire*).

There was a big demo with thousands of people downtown proper near the courthouse/city hall, but we weren't up to it. There has been a regular Friday demonstration more central downtown for decades. We get a lot of other demonstrations on different days generally as well. This is a very left wing town. It's a small city, but we do love to demonstrate.

We did pass a small, separate demonstration on the was home, but they had hands off signs, so I waved and beeped.

I am double booked Tuesday for two time sensitive things that protect my benefits. (I tried to get wait listed. I tried to move the theoretically more moveable one. It is impossible, which doesn't surprise me. *gestures to the government being on fire* The appointments are 40 minutes apart on check in and about fifteen minutes apart for space. I am terrified I won't make it. My plan is to try to go very early for appointment one in hopes somebody cancels. I have already gathered the paperwork.

I am FUCKED if I miss either.

* The fundraiser is over. I want to tank everyone has helped since September. This has been a terrible year for all of us and it means so much to me that you are here.

* Amoung the Too Many Things that maid up my Wednesday, I went to get vaccinated. Yes, I know my Doctor suggested I should wait for February after my September COVID, according to current guidelines, but I am worried that that all vaccines may be banned by that point, if the Republicans fulfill their threats. I don't want to get caught in what I suspect will be a rush for boosters in January by people who are aware of the planned vaccine ban.

Sure, it might not happen, but this is one of the areas where they can move without Congress and there isn't much stopping them, so I decided on caution. I take vaccination seriously and there is a reason I was classed group 1B during initial vaccine roll out. I'm a medically fragile person who had to mask against things like influenza before 2020. I made it four and a half years before catching it, I'd rather not catch it again, as I am still tired from my first bout in September and I'd rather not lose any more function. I'd get an RSV vaccine if they'd let me. I have all my other shots.

So I was down at the poverty clinic pharmacy chatting with the guy giving me my shot, who has been there, I think, a couple decades, so I'm a familiar face. So I mentioned my worries about the public health policy situation to see how they were taking it at Poverty clinic.

He had a lot to say, not surprisingly. They are frightened and furious. They rely on grants and are absolutely essential to the healthcare infrastructure of the city. In my opinion, they are absolutely irreplaceable. They serve the poor and other marginalized communities. They've been essential to providing healthcare to the HIV+ population since the '80's, they are a hub for trans healthcare for several counties, they are queer friendly generally and safe, they have lots of immigrant services and translators, they do a lion's share of health care and dentistry for the homeless population. Him: We save lives here. I don't know what will happen if we lose our grants and close.

* The asshole agency started sending cleaners again the back half of November. As they only sent one person for a two hour shift, not counting the lady who lied she was going to get gloves and drove away, between early June and then (The time we needed them most), I had a fuckton of hours that go away at the end of the year. I've been scheduling them twice a week and to my absolute shock they've been sending them. O.o I had five extra hours even so, so I scheduled a couple extra Mondays because of the holidays.

One of them is amazing, so I set it up so she gets first shot at my hours. Seriously, she's a delight. She's lonely and has hinted at maybe wanting to be friends outside of work. I'd invite her to join the friend group if she could bubble, but she has kids, so it wouldn't be safe, unfortunately. (Don't worry, we both mask for her visits). I sent her home with three full boxes of food forage sent us that neither we nor the Millennials could use, two boxes of which have been in my car since inspection because we needed to take them to donate. Better they go to a single Mom I know and like, I figure.

Part of why my original standard cleaner day for Friday morning is that the forage boxes usually arrive while cleaners are there and they can haul them inside and I can offer them things like the extra eggs (Squirrel isn't allowed to have them and I can only use whites in a baking context because my body can't handle an egg white omelette even so I never need more than one carton. I am always asking visiting Millennials if they want eggs.), or vegetables we are allergic to, or canned goods we have a surplus of or can't use for medical reasons, etc.. Some take them, some don't. My feeling is people who aren't poor don't take jobs like this. Poor people have to look out for each other.

The thing is, I needed to take a Millennial to a thing to sort out an ongoing thing left over from late last summer. The place closes at five which meant between 3/12- 4 Hours sleep for me. I am exhausted, but it was worth it. I do need to take them back a couple more times, but it is actually sorted out in a satisfactory way. We stopped at the good grocery on the way back and I got good tomatoes for sandwiches, which I had been wanting to do, but was too tired last couple of days what with the HOA drama and the booster shot. As Covid vaccine goes, this wasn't too bad and is noticeably less severe than this years flu shot was. I can live with extra tired, and slightly congested. I frequently do that without any vaccines. It's certainly better than a second bout of Covid would be.

I am not looking forward to figuring out how to get my flu and Covid boosters in Canada next year if they are banned. Sigh. That is next September me's problem, though.

I also had a Firefox crash and they no longer let you have access to a "restore session" button. I spent a couple hours reconstructing, but I suspect some news was lost and it is possible I may repost news items because I can't remember if they went out already. Apologies.

* I didn't really recover from the Thursday torture appointment until Sunday, and it took a stupid amount of bedrest to get there. I kept getting the shakes trying to do the exercises Friday and Saturday. One of the things I literally couldn't get my arm in position to start Friday. Saturday, I was able to hook it into place with my other hand and hold it in start position for a 15 count stretch which is as good as it was getting without Beowulf pulling a Grendel on me.

Meanwhile, news has been piling up on Klaus laptap as I struggle to keep my head above water and out of bed long enough for basics.

I did manage to do all eighteen twice (if you count the stretch as doing an exercise), Saturday, but it cost me a lot. Sunday I did manage three sets. I am concerned about how Wednesday physio, but onward we must go because what I take into surgery is the range of motion ceiling on the arm for the rest of my life. Tick Tick Tick sigh.

I asked Goth Millennial to make a cardboard decoy laptop to distract Tavy from his attempts to kill Klaus. Livia was initially terrified of it, so I can't sit it in Klaus' old spot if I want her to feel safe out here. I have set it at right angles instead, which is less alarming for her while she gets used to it. Meanwhile Tavy has started gnawing on it, so at least he has a new project. we'll need more time to see about effectiveness.

The second of the surgery shirts my Aunt funded arrived. It is marked the same size as the more generic one that is a tent, but is actually the exact right fit for me. Not ideal for post surgery, but large enough if someone is there to dress me, and it means I now own four shirts I can wear for medical appointments and such while convalescing. I plan to wander around the apartment just in boxers for a lot of this, because that's far better than having to figure out how to get in and out of shirts everyday.

I love this octopus shirt. It is beautiful and goth and pride flag coded. I was not prepared for the cuteness of the squids up close.

Thursday, I was frankensteining around because my legs were bad. I know I have a bunch of C7 bulbs somewhere, but I put thhem away somewhere clever last January. I also need a C5, apparently. I saw some Wednesday, not knowing I owned anything needing a C-5. Sigh.

Friday late, my oldest continuous friend arrives for the birthday celebrations. everything is a mess, but I did get most of the boxes back in the closet, except for the light boxes I still need to search. I strung the house lights for halloweentown Wednesday, but all the figurines are randomly located as no one was up to making it pretty, which means I can't finish garlands and lights in time for party weekend. Ah well.

I did at least wrap presents for my birthday. For new readers: we do a halloween party for my birthday and we do secret pumpkins and take turns opening presents. I think birthday parties are more fun if everyone gets something to unwrap, and I am an Old, so this is how we do.

* Wednesday's plans fell through for a bunch of nobody's fault reasons, but at least the annual curtain cleaning got done, along with a bunch of necessary errands and the like. I was exhausted and ended up going to bed for a few hours before the Thursday dose. (It went up again. I'm fine, but it takes a lot out of me). I had planned to get my COVID boosters, but there is a local distribution delay. I am rescheduled for Saturday the 30th, which is far less convenient, but there was nothing to be done. It'll be my first Moderna shot; I've had Pfiser every time previous, but apparently the Pfiser delay is a lot longer if I don't want to cross the mountains and do like an hourish of driving in my ancient car to a crappy little town I've only been to once and don't know my way around.

Waiting is simpler and cheaper as I need to make this half tank last, so I will wait.

no one was letting me sleep Thursday. It was that thing where I was having trouble sleeping because of the pain being so extreme, and when I finally started to drift off, the phone would ring. Rinse and repeat. One of them let me sleep a whole hour, which was exciting. By the time we got to the 5-7th calls, I had reached a state of grimly amused. Then I woke up choking, which hasn't happened for a while and is likely to do with the Thursday shot and me running out of a side effect mitigation med I can't afford to replace until the 1st, by which time there will be no more shots until the new clinic opens.

I can't remember if I wrote about the two doctors getting a new office in the new clinic that opens in October, but they aren't scheduling yet. Let's hope the gap isn't so big I have to start over.

I did finally get a little REM sleep, but not much. Then I completely borked the bad shoulder trying to do physio. The arm didn't want to and it's bad enough I had to break out emergency meds and use the sling. Grr.

* Saturday I "won" a game of "What am I allergic to now?"

Spoiler: sandalwood. It was sandalwood. Sigh.

* Thursday was likely the last of the good fruit from the market garden down the street as I can't afford more. They were plums. The oval ones with the dark purple skin and the yellowish interior, perfectly rich of flavour and sweet. I already miss them. Sunday I ate one of the tomatoes that hadn't developed right from the garden and it was like the whole flavour of what would have been a full sized heirloom was compressed into something a tad larger than a cherry tomato. It was still warm from the sun. I dislike summer, but I do love the fresh fruit and veg it brings.

Last Wednesday we started Gothmas prep stuff. The Gothmas season stretches from when the first leaves start turning until some time first week of January. It has many phases. I didn't used to count prep as a phase, but it really is. Last Wednesday was basically Adult Arts and Crafts and cleaning air-conditioner vents. Sunday was things like break down and drain the living room air condition. admittedly a risk with this humidity, but we can't move forward without putting it away. We are hoping to start interior decorating Wednesday.

As always, the goal is to have everything up but the exterior by the end of the 27th. Let's hope i remember to start the curtains in the washing machine before I leave for Wednesday errands. (I really shouldn't be taking the curtains down myself, but I can't put them back up myself, so the timing needs to be a thing that happens when I'm dressed for the day, but with enough time for wash and dry while the Millennials are here.

I am so ready for Autumn, which should be much farther along, but the wind patterns have been radically fucked for half a decade thanks to climate crisis.

The cleaner tricked poor Livia Friday into thinking he was Goth Millennial. He was very quiet and making familiar doing things in the kitchen sounds, so without checking his identity she trundled out of her hide so she could watch birds from her padded podium by my bedroom window. About and hour and a quarter later, he loomed into her doorway. Panic! Goth Millennial was a doppelganger! a Tricksey shape Shifting stranger!

Saturday, she hid from Goth Millennial in case they performed the same shape shifting trick again. Fool me once….

Sunday she was on my bed with Tavy when I brought Goth Millennial in, and we were mid-chat, so she decided Goth Millennial was not a Decepticon because that meant she could keep enjoying the pet I was giving her and a nap in her Spot instead of repairing to her Fortress of Solitude for the evening. it was fine. no shape shifting shenanigans ensued.

* Sometimes when other Olds are complaining about young people and their phones, I think about the Student Union at my first college in the days just before email happened to ordinary people.

It was a very small school and the student union was basically a very large basement, with an eatery, a mail room, and a bunch of seating areas. The mail room was central and four times a day they delivered mail. You might ask, "How was there enough mail to deliver four times a day, when the post office delivers once a day?" Most of it was junk. You got the real mail once a day and the rest was fliers and things for activities, messages from Profs or other students, that sort of think. Most of it went right into the conveniently placed recycling bins.

I admit, like everyone else, I'd turn up for the big distribution of outside mail as you had to catch package delivery when the window was open, and given the poor taste and nutritional value of the crap in the cafeteria, something edible from home was a Big Deal.

Four times a day though, the students would gather if they weren't in class in the seating areas closest to the mail boxes. Some benighted souls would hover, hover, right in front of their boxes, listening excitedly for the squeak of the sort cart and the rustle of the student workers on the other side, eyes fixed on the tiny box window.

These people knew perfectly well that the other three deliveries were 80-90% junk mail. They sat or stood, desperate as baby birds waiting for the worm anyway.

People haven't changed, they are just waiting for a ping instead of a squeak and rustle.

Human nature is human nature. I think a lot of people from before email and texts are forgetting that they too have run to the mailbox when they saw the USPS truck or mail person put stuff in, or dove for the letters lot hoping for something good, or hovered by a campus mail slot knowing odds were it was all or mostly trash. I try not to forget that, even though I stopped hovering after a week or so, even though if I check my email more than once a day it's a lot, even though I don't text. Who the fuck are we too judge? We've all done the analog version even if we aren't currently doing the digital and I feel like a lot of people who were email users but not frequent texters are pretending we all didn't refresh email like 8 times a day in the '90's.

* Saturday we wore ourselves out with necessary errands. I needed algae wafers for the plecoes and some special girl food to tide Livia over. They had her shreds but not her kibbles there. (As I bought the last two bags of kibbles at the local last month, she likely has about a month of kibbles left, but with today I think the bird flu may have fucked the cat food supply and for Livia, the choice is a small number of turkey dominant limited ingredient foods or going back on the even more expensive prescription stuff. There are three more places I could try left, but gas is low and two of them are further out and one is super expensive.

All this is made worse by Livia having what is likely a psychiatric crisis, but could be early signs that her renal system may be failing again. Let us hope it's psychiatric, because that won't kill her and I think she's doing a little better tonight. There have been a lot of visitors and schedule disruptions, plus me being sick. That's a lot of stress for a cat who super extra is bad at change and gets stressed easily. Her urine remains normal, but her high anxiety behaviors aren't that different from the behaviors the time she almost died when she was a little over a year old, so I worry. She was eating almost normally tonight, so I'm still in the likely stress camp. *fingers crossed*

Anyway, OTC was right next to the way too hot pet supply store. I somehow miscalculated the tax again and also forgot surgical masks, of which I have nearly run out. @$&#!

The good cheap ethical grocery is right there, so I used the motor cart because most of me wasn't working well at this point. Inevitably, I forgot some things, but there were tiny oranges on sale and I have partially restocked some essentials.

My nails are doing almost okay for the first time in ages, so Goth Millennial painted them a subtly sparkly purple for me, just in time for social stuff with some of the Millennials.

I'm still not really caught up from all the spring car repairs. I am already seeing way more things I can't not buy like gas, litter, and probably kibbles and we are moving into the super expensive part of the year (September-January), where I have a bunch of extra things I can't not do like the oil/radiator thing my car now needs every six months, tabs, housing tax, Gothmas season). I had such high hopes when the COLA went up in January, but between the car and the extra electrical costs... yeah.

I'm not drowning. Not yet. It's been two straight years of everything breaking. I could sure use a year of nothing breaking. This was the first summer since the start of the pandemic I didn't need surgery in the summer. Let's hope the car and apartment follow suit.

* I am still struggling with the Asshole agency. I was awakened Sunday morning by a cleaner checking in on her way to my place. Fuckssake! I do not understand why it's so hard to grasp only send cleaners every Friday morning unless I say other wise. They tried to send a morning and afternoon cleaner last Tuesday. Every day i have the same conversation about me only wanting weekly care Friday mornings. Every day they cancel the next day's cleaner, but not the day after. I only get so many hours a year and we are saving the extras for Autumn when millennials are busy with Gothmas season and the like.

I did not cancel the morning cleaner Sunday, because she'd already been booked and if I cancel that's money she loses. It was hours of sleep I needed, but oh well. Asshole agency. I did have about two hours of work for her, but I've no idea what happens if the telephone operator lady didn't sort it and a surprise cleaner comes Monday, as the stuff that's left is either complicated or not in the cleaner's remit. She said she'd switched me from daily back to weekly. *Fingers crossed*

This cleaner was very quiet. Tavy liked her. She was so quiet, Livia thought she'd gone and wandered into my bathroom to use her personal litter box and there she was: cleaning! Livia: The horror! The horror! Quiet was good. it meant I could do some tumblr programming with only occasional interruption for directions.

Winds from the tropical storm in Mexico and California are sending air currents along the coast that bring us smoke from the fires between us and there. Air quality was bad all weekend as a result. Instead of swimming we gathered in my place and goth Millennial made their excellent lasagna.

* I had my shoulder situation investigated again Tuesday. It was painful, of course, and my shoulders are still recovering. The new doctor had not grasped how extreme the situation is. We will be doing another round of specialists as a result. I have just started a new med. I am not sanguine it will be to the point and I worry it will fuck me up, but having eliminated the best option, we are down to two less ideal classes. I thought the other option too high risk for extreme side effects, so here we are.

* I haven't written much about my doings lately. Enough has been going on, I forget what i've written and what I hadn't. The air outside is hot and muggy which is exhausting for me, and thus I've been even slower than usual about most things, needing more rest.

Friday a week ago, I learned that I've shrunk a full inch. I remember my mother shrinking. it was particularly obvious because while we spoke on the phone a great deal, we only saw each other every few years. They don't measure one often as an adult, so it was still a surprise. I had attributed my difficulty in reaching things to the deterioration of my arms. I think I also unconsciously associate shrinking with white hair, and the individual gray strands are still only visible in certain lights. I am fully aware of all the other deterioration. I started developing jowls this spring, for example, and I now am apt to fall over when i pick things up off the floor. I suspect i am ddeveloping the beginnings of a hump. Still, i hadn't thought about shrinking and an inch feels like a lot.

We are now two weeks in a row of no friday morning cleaner. Last time Tavy panicked when Forage delivery arrived because he KNOWS the cleanedr arrives first. He kept trying to enlist me to go search the bushes in case his cleaner was lost in there. This week, he took it more calmly.

We had a good time at the lake last Sunday, but made an essential error. We decided to try a different section and it was rockier and shallow for a much longer distance. My strategy is to hang on to a helper until in is just deep enough for me to drop down and move like one of those fish evolving to walk until it's deep enough to really swim. It took ages to get deep enough not to drag myself across rocks. The spot we'd picked for our base camp was nice though. Better sand, better view, better shade, less crowded. I'm never going in that way again, but we make keep picking it for picnics.

* Sunday was a trip to the Lake with Millennials. No rich children stole my crutch this time. We had a really good swim, but the current was above average strong and at some point I was like, "Oh shit! There's the swim boouy! We are in the middle of the boat lanes. We swam back. It was fine. They put in an outdoor shower this year, which is a huge help. After we showered we ate finger foods and chatted.

I stopped by the bathrooms on the way to my car and OMG! It was one of those things where there was a perfectly logical explanation from the perspective of the three of us already in the bathroom, but like opening a door into chaos for the other two people involved.

This bathroom is tiny. Three stalls on your left. Across from that a big metal communal urinal. The sink and mirror give an excellent view of the door and also a small bench they jammed in against the door wall. It's almost 6:30PM on a crowded hot weekend. it's a couple hours before sunset, so the park is less crowded than when we arrived 4ish, but people are still arriving and the bathroom is Trashed. The little beach strip is more mud then sand and people have been tracking water and black mud/sand in there for about ten hours and there is tp paper mache all over the ground and the toilets desperately need cleaning.

So I step out of the stall, just as a person is heading to the nasty ass urinal trench thing. Another guy is climbing up on the bench to change, because he understandably doesn't want to be barefoot on that floor and then put on shoes to drive home. Bench guy is soon full on pooh bear over my right shoulder as i wash my hands, which takes a while because the water keeps auto shutting off, so I have to stop and restart every few seconds. Perfectly framed over my left shoulder is the door, which swings open.

It's two gentlemen, one of whom beelines for the urinal. The other freezes in horror and starts yelling, "Wrong bathroom! Wrong bathroom!" I have very long hair. I am wearing a mask because I'm in a small, poorly ventilated place. I have on a black tee and my trunks look like goth shorts. My sandals are of an ubiquitous style worn my any gender in my region in good weather. I'm very androgynous. I think it was my hair causing the initial panic, but his head turned to follow his friend's trajectory to the 2-3 person piss trench and he saw bench guy crouched pantsless behind me like a downhill skier doing the streak, as if he was possibly about to pounce on my back, and his cries of wrong bathroom got a lot more shrill. In my head I'm picturing the Guy in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas who walks in on hippies liking a guy's jacket. His oblivious friend is doing his business, the other guy is about to leave. I turn and head towards the poor panicky guy and am like: It's the right bathroom. I have long hair.

We have accidentally traumatized a guy who was clearly not ready for the PNW weird.

A couple millennials came back for dinner. Once we arrived, I realized just how fucked I was. I'd swum too long and my arms were DONE. Luckily, I'd dropped off New Millennial to get their car and a take 'n bake, so I could just lung and rest up. They ended up staying very late talking. I closed down the apartment for the night and went to bed.

I could have gotten up nineish, but I decided to read Camp Damascus in between pettins and supplemental sleep all day, which turned out to be a good call. I have this thing where I promise the Millennials that if they are ever stranded at one of the further bits of town they can call me and if I physically can, I will come get them. Bus service is even shittier out there and there's a severe lack of shelters to wait in. It was pouring down at a rate that was threatening to flood low lying areas. A Millennial was trapped at the back of beyond with a long drenching slog to the bus. Of course I went, but it turned into a a much longer trip than intended for reasons that were no one's fault. I got them home and reasonably dry though, and I'm not sorry.

It did eat and extra chunk of evening though, and I'm really chewed up from swimming. I am very glad I got the aggregate out Friday, because I'm not up to much posting this evening.

We plan to do lake swimming on Sundays all August, which will effect posting schedule.

* My heart did not take damage.

I am exhausted as people and robots keep phoning me and I had things like mandatory bureaucracy this week. Cleaners came though, both the replacement cleaner Tuesday to make up for none last week, who was another ex-teacher like me, and the Friday Cleaner. Like all but two of the cleaners (If you count the uncleaner), Friday Cleaner came all the way from the Reservation. The others were all my ageish or Millennials. I'm always super polite to the cleaners as it's hard work and the people doing it deserve politeness. If it's a Friday, I offer free vegetables, because they send more than we need from forage delivery.

This one was an Elder. I was raised with deference to older relatives, and I'm particularly aware of the kind of things her generation went through at the hands of the US government and white people in general as well as cultural stuff around treatment of elders. I felt very, very weird asking her to do anything because it went against pretty much every ingrained instinct in my body.

I was super extra polite explaining the cats and setting her up in the kitchen, then left her to it. She was so quiet as she worked that poor Livia thought she was gone and eventually came out for loves, only to discover after a snack and second pettins that the stranger was Still here. Tavy ended up really liking her. she had a very cat vibe and interesting smelling shoes and she talked sweet to him, but gave him space.

Her cleaning was excellent, very detailed. Apparently she was worried that I'd be distressed by how slow it went, because she was deep cleaning in there. Me: No really, we need that as no one has had time to do it in a while. My style is very ex-middle school teacher. I'd wander quietly over to get something or put something away, and take in what she was up to without looking like that's what I'm doing. I saw how in depth she was going and suggested an extra thing she might do in there. Last half hour I gave her a different meticulous in depth thing, and sent her home a few minutes early with a bag of food.

She was really cool. Apparently she and her friends were all at an outdoor music part party, all dancing together, and we just generally had a nice chat while she was getting ready to go about cats and things. I really liked her and would love her back. At the same time I'll never not be angry that economics means she's having to work. Elders should not be having to clean the homes of white people. Not even relatively vigorous ones.

* Very early Sunday morning I discovered that I no longer need four pillows on top of the two elderly wheelchair cushions on my beat up second hand office chair. I can now manage with just the two wheelchair cushions thanks to my new meds. This may seem like a small thing, but it means I get my options back for leg and hip positioning at my desk.

(I can't sit easily long term in a chair without propping my legs if I intend to use the legs for things like walking later. It's also uncomfortable to let them dangle. you know how starting ballet at a very young age changes the shape of your hip joints? Now add serious arthritic degeneration and what the current rheum thinks is hyper-mobility, but not the really obvious everyone notices it kind. Apparently they are in the process of changing diagnostic criteria based on more recent science. Apparently most ballet dancers and gymnasts would qualify under the newer guidelines, which makes sense to me.)

My shoulder is still completely fucked from the trying to clean up after the Uncleaner, but I am really noticing the difference in so many ways. Yay, new meds. I've mostly acclimated to the side effects so far. still no hallucinations and last night's test with combining with the emergency tramadol did not induce temporary psychosis, which is a really good sign. (For new readers a whole bunch of meds can induce hallucinations and paranoia in my family, including opiods, anti-psychotics, and SSRIs. At high doses we are talking full psychotic break, a thing I've seen now deceased older family members experience in the hospital. if someone is having an obvious psychotic break, they tend to administer anti-psychotics, which have a multiplying effect with the pain killers and thus make things way worse, so they administer more anti-psychotics instead of cutting the opiods and the anti-psychotics out.... you can see the obvious problem. I have only just started hallucinating with stronger opiods, but can still tolerate milder ones. They are still a little unpleasant for me at low doses. I don't use them too often because some time pain killers are necessary and due to allergies my only other options are Tylenol and my arthritis pill, which I can't take more often than every twelve hours for safety reasons. It's a whole thing. New med is a class none of us have taken before, so I'm a guinea pig). I am wary of going up to the standard for adult humans dose, however, as I am getting the weird intense dreams side effect, which for me can be a warning that a drug is about to turn ugly on me. Don't worry, everybody around me knows what's going on with my meds situation.

I other news, Tavy wants to hang out with his favorite Millennials and enjoyed watching the Friday cleaner, but still is only letting me and Squirrel touch him. he did want to be super close to goth Millennial Saturday and was interested in play, though tired easily in the heat. He also get upset when it was time for Goth Millennial to go home. It's looking like he's recovering from the Uncleaner traumatizing him. he still wants reassurance after sleep, but yesterday he didn't wake me in a panic after a bad nightmare and have trouble being soothed. I am still furious about the whole thing, but the cats are being more normal.

Goth Millennial put in the air conditioner/air filtration in the main area before they left, which is making a huge difference.

* Sunday: Tavy let Goth Millennial pet him. he’s still too distressed to sit on the sofa with Goth Millennial for TV time and pettins, but he did curl up behind us. The cats are still sleepy, I'm hoping from the heat and not the Ajax, but Tavy was himself enough to play what is a normal amount for him in summer.

Goth Millennial got some good gardening in and is starting to sort out things cleaners put away in odd locations. The air filtering in the main room is being a huge help. I worry about all the smoke injuring my cats and the Millennials. I know it's really been fucking me up, but ever running the machine for a few hours perks us all up. My room is filtered as always when I sleep, of course.

I blew through all the EBT and OTC in the first week of July and am way over budget on food already. Sigh. I gaze sadly at melons and cucumbers I can't eat safely and pass on.

* The new meds side effect wave hit hard and dangerous Thursday, but I'm not sure it didn't start a lot earlier.

Okay, so I had a vicious headache last Friday night for about three hours, which didn't particularly shock me, as my body just does stuff like that. Same Saturday. Normal. Sunday. Monday. I made a note to mention it to the doctor Tuesday morning, but forgot. I noticed Tuesday's headache at the same time was absolutely crushing for three hours, then shut off like a faucett as if it had never been. Which is creepy and wrong. So I'm now weighing if the new meds improvement is worth creepy three hour debilitating headache every day, and if I should call it in the next day.

So Wednesday I wake up to one of my body is very, very bad days. which is a thing that happens sometimes, especially if my body's been to far which between the uncleaner and the extreme heat and this being the worse time of year for my allergies and assorted RL commitments including the doctor is not weird. Plus I'm... I forget how many days in on struggling to type on Klaus Laptop because its hard to lift my arm the extra nine and a half inches, and I'm mostly having to drink with a straw because i go half my wake cycle not being ably to lift a full glass of water that high and I'm dropping things because my arms are fucked. which happens. All of it really stresses out my body though, you follow?

So sometimes the alarm goes off because I have to go somewhere and my body nopes out of it, or tries to. So I'm exhausted. I have the shakes. I end up way late to pick up Goth Millennial because it's just that hard to move. So I drive Goth Millennial around and wait in the car while they do errands. Goth Millennial goes outside to putter in the garden. I lung, then take a nap, all with Tavy glued to my chest, because it's sometimes better after a nap. Resets everything to a more acceptable level of crappy.

I make it all the way up to minimally functional by the time the other Millennials arrive for dinner. One of them had brought pre-marinated and cooked tofu. Me: I think we should make rice for it. With coconut milk and saffron and Turmeric. New Millennial: Oooo! That sounds delicious! Me: It's possible I'm edging up towards Indonesian happy rice except I don't have any lemon grass. But I do have Bay leaves.... So it ends up with New Millennial Making Rice and the two of us keep consulting on spices until I have to lie down again. The results we excellent.

Tavy is still clearly traumatized from the Uncleaner. He loves techie Millennial. Techie Millennial was the first visitor he let pet and play with him. He hid from the Millennials when they arrived after nap time. He did eventually come out and watch them for a bit and even rubbed against Techies legs, but ran if it even looked like someone might tough her. I'm still so angry about the Uncleaner traumatizing him like this.

Really, I just wanted to go to bed after they left, but I needed to stay up for the morning allergy treatment. My body was really not movi ng well, but I dragged myself there and back, which nearly did me in. I did manage to prep for bed and climb in, which really fucking hurt, at which point the first wave of hallucinations and fast heartbeat and arrhythmia hit. So that was fun. Me: Guess that's it for new Meds. They were amazing while they lasted.

They must have been really busy at the doctor because they didn't get back to me until afternoon. I left a message for my doctor's nurse, conveying that I was having severe side effects and needed to know if I should go to the ER. No one ever got back to me. The heart stuff got really bad for four or five hours, always with visual hallucinations. I thought about calling for help, but my right arm wasn't working and my left wasn't great either, and it's usually eight hours minimum to get seen at the ER and they yell at you if you bring in chest pains that turn out not to be a heart attack, and the pain only happened when I moved so it was likely just torso muscles screaming about my arms.

But the supper high irregular heart beat for hours can't be good. I wrote this waiting for receptionist call back Friday morning. I was 36 minutes in on the wait as I typed this sentence. I really think they should check my heart, but if they are this busy... Yeah. I'm assuming if it was really dangerous, they'd return my call from yesterday instead of continuing to ignore my message.

* It took about an hour and a quarter total, but we will find out if i had a heart attack or not on Tuesday. They I had to chase down the asshole agency as they had not called to tell me the cleaner wasn't coming, so it's now rescheduled for Tuesday. Then I waited on hold to try to schedule the mobility assessment, only to discover the number they gave was for central processing. They were going to transfer me when call waiting beeped, so i made them give me the direct line number and extension. (It was meds. Pharmacy was delivering meds and they only wait five minutes so that was the correct call on my part.) The making appointment direct line was faster by far, but I had no clue which wheelchair vender I was interested in. O.o apparently they have the vender in on assessment days, so that effects scheduling. I let her pick. She was like: We like this one better, but we have to offer both.

Forage delivery still hadn't arrived. It was now really hot and polleny outside. This is relevant. I can't leave food out there very long or it will spoil. Inside, I have air conditioning and extra filtering. I can breath inside, but not outside. I was exhausted and frustrated and really pissed off about the medical stuff. My chest was still tight. There is a band of intense pain keeping me from lifting my arms properly. I manage to drag the laundry basket to me room anyway, but I'm not remotely up to the pain involved in folding it. Livia wants her love. I climb into bed for Livia loves. My experience is, getting ready to sleep summons Forage Delivery somehow. Livia is done with her love. I've been in bed over an hour waiting. Tavy insists I should sleep with claws to my nipple, because health stiff makes him anxious.

The phone rings. We have the conversation where we double check which porch to put it on. I lie there a bit, working up to the pain of levering myself out of bed. I lumber out there. No food boxes. so I'm thinking did he think left instead of right? So I'm out in the mid day sun with my crutch and bare feet, struggling to breath because I can't breath in the heat on a good day and this isn't close. I have no idea how I will get the food boxes to my apartment. My best guess is crawl on the pavement pushing them ahead of me because there is zero chance of my arms even lifting them. It's not on the patios of any building facing the gazebo. Me: did they drive past and hit the wrong side of my building? So I hobble around the other side in baking heat and it's not on the logical patios. I have to then hobble all the way back to my patio, exhausted. I simply can't be out any longer or I will collapse. This is why I have forage delivery, so I don't have to seriously endanger myself getting the food. Which i am now doing and failing at miserably.

I try last call return. No one answers. Fuck! I restart the computer and look up forage delivery dispatch. I get a live human without a long wait on hold for the first time in two days. This is possibly a miracle. I am still struggling to breath when I explain and ask if they could at least give me a hint as to where the food is because I can't be out in the sun searching anymore. She puts me on hold and reaches them. She puts me on hold and reaches them. she says they will come back.

So I go lie down in my room where the air is best and wait. He’s like: I’m right here. The food is here. I go look. No man. No food. I used my stop a kid from across the playground below to see if we could get a Polo for my Marco. No dice. I had cleverly left the phone off the hook when I went to look on the grounds that the food was definitely not on my patio previously.

It turns out that they’d put it in the middle of the other side of the building, expecting me somehow to drag it all that way over carpeted halls. O.o I didn’t think to look there because we’d discussed patio locations in such a super specific way moments before he’d put it at the main entrance instead of a patio. He was nice enough to bring it around and drop it right inside my door.

I have recently learned Millennials generally don’t know the word “gazebo” and are afraid to ask or look it up because of the cleaners. I am now wondering if patio may also be too bougie to be familiar, but lots of apartments around here come with small patios if they are ground floor, even the shitty apartments I can generally afford, just like tiny balconies are super common on upper floors in this region. Surely jungle of plants and blue chair were hints though? IDK. We’ve lost a lot of delivery people in the decade we live here too. Something about the complex confuses people.

Forage delivery guy looked like a thirtyish Mr. Clean and really was very kind, just confused.

Goth Millennial was sweet enough to come in on their day off to work and extra two hours looking after me, and then we finished the back third of a movie we’d been re-watching together. I’m not great, but improving. I also have a new unexplored theory about what is wrong with my arms from the article about statins I linked in this space. I guess I’ll run it by the doctor when I see them.

* My garden makes me happy, tiny as it is. I love the way it smells of basil and tomato leaves and rosemary and spearmint. I love the lushness of it compared to the sterile looking landscaping management insists on. It feels like the glorious chaos of nature fighting back every time seeds blow out of my container garden and sprout amongst the deliberately barren patches beyond my porch border. I love being surrounded by green and all those vegetable plant flowers.

This is already shaping up to be the best year ever for my tiny strawberry patch. I likely would have been the best year for asparagus, judging from the early growth, but the compost sprouted such an abundance of other things that I fear the asparagus hasn't a chance. Maybe next year. The day after New Millennial brought over the Pride Pinwheel they painted, my beloved carnations started blooming. Some of the early tomatoes are already growing on the bigger plants, which gives me hopes of this year being as good as last year for tomatoes.

* Tuesday, I met the new, alas temporary Doctor. Today's medical theme was arthritis. For those following along, but medical records are on the scale of the complete unabridged writings of Aquinas, as it's impossible for anyone to get a handle on them quickly, so we are doing a series of appointments each centered on a major theme to help get things on track.

I have warned her about the opiods and anti-psychotics both artificially inducing hallucinations and paranoia in people of my family and how it happened to me post surpery in percacet last year so she'll know if I get in a car accident and start hallucinating so they give me an anti-pscotic which together may induce psychotic break. Brains are fun.

I have a new replacement referral for the wheelchair/mobility assessment. It turns out there is now literally one allergy doctor with a tiny practice left in the whole city, which is why we are all so fucked. Peacehealth closed two other essential specialties in which they had a monopoly, fucking over all those patients too, the bastards. she's going to check our county and the county just south for me. It's worth blowing my medical transport credits on. They just way upped the limit anyway.

Medical science has moved forward a lot in the last 10-15 years. One of the early rheums said I likely had fibromyalgia, but it wasn't worth pursuing as medicare didn't believe in it and the treatment would be the same as my way easier to document arthritis and visible to the naked eye spinal damage.

So we are trying a new class of meds to see if I can tolerate them without my brain and/or body flipping out, as so often happens when one introduces new meds to it. I'm at a sub clinical dose to test tolerance, but I can feel the difference. I also feel a bit peculiar, though I'm adjusting.

Long time readers know the drill. I am weird, but if you spot anything obviously weird for me, way off my usual sort of postings, nonsense, irrationality, that sort of thing, give me a heads up that new meds may be driving me off the rails. Squirrel and my usual chat buddies know the drill and I'll let the millennials know what to watch for. Odds are it will be fine. I'm more likely to get stopped by physical side effects on this one, but it's always good to have more spotters.

* Wednesday, Squirrel lent us his cat for errands and then we hug out. We are still looking for a better sobriquet for New Millennial. Head Millennial will henceforth be called Goth Millennial.

So Goth Millennial and I are on the sofa and Techie Millennial and New Millennial are on the chairs. The Emperor was understandably excited. Many of his personal Millennials were here. (As of this week, New Millennial is in the Clowder according to the Emperor, so he climbed onto me to enjoy, being part of the group.
