and really, whatever actions you have done that have had a positive impact on your emotions and the planet!

No post is too small!

Hi everyone. I'm a new member of the comm. I'd like to thank the moderator for approving my membership. I guess I've pretty much always been interested in the environment, from an early age. My parents always recycle stuff that needs to be recycled, and now that they're both retired they frequently take walks. At least that is what we did during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. I moved out of my apartment building and into their place, since I am in a high-risk category. In addition, my parents recently had solar panels installed on their roof. My landlord was going to have some of these installed in my apartment complex, but apparently that has yet to happen. I was told that we actually had some solar panels installed, but that they were tampered with so I'm not sure what's going on with that. Earlier this year my parents purchased an electric vehicle, and a sister and her husband also have one of these. I've ridden in both, and they're pretty sweet. One thing I like about these electric vehicles is that they all seem to make a sound when approaching. As someone who has been blind since birth, I for one am glad that vehicle manufacturers saw fit to include these audible alerts.

Well...I think that's enough of an intro for now. Thanks again for signal-boosting about this comm!

I've gotten a few new members to the comm! So I'd like to ask, to foster some conversation!

Everyone, is there anything you've done lately OR in the past to help the environment? Anything you would recommend others to do?

This can be personal or political, big or small, so please feel free to share in the comments, or as it's own post!

Hello everyone. I urge you all to view this website.

There mission as stated in their about section is

...to foster international cooperation to accelerate a transition to renewable energy for everyone, end the expansion of coal, oil and gas, and equitably phase out existing production...

I my self have already written to my local Executive and Governor about using their template,

Even if it's not this organization specifically (thought I think organizing under one label is helpful) I really would urge everyone to post about supporting an end to the use of fossil fuels where ever you can. I think small actions are good, but I believe our situation is urgent enough that it requires large political change, and that's much harder to achieve when people are unaware and there is no strong push for this change.

If you do post about it, please do tell me in the comments if you like, I would love to know!

Splintering off, I would just like to say, I for the remaining part of the year, would like to put my all in to political and social work for environmentalism. I ride my bike when I can, I try to compost, but I don't believe my individual actions, without change from wider society will help us. So I want to do the most I can!

Got a bike recently. A used one, in good condition! Got it from a small, local store near me. I've riding it to work on some days, and I use it to go to the library. Had one before but it broke bad haha.

On days where my mom drops me off at work, I tend to walk home, but as I've finally learned how to use our transit app, I've been catching the bus home as well. It was pretty packed today.

Note that previously, I was grabbing rides from family, and taking Uber a bunch of places. Not only is this helping to reduce my carbon, but I feel so much more free now, with the bike especially. No money needed, and I can't always rely on others for a ride. It's great.

Anyone else like to bike around or take the bus sometimes? Where I live the bus isn't great, and the streets aren't great for biking either, but I endure haha. I tend to bike on the sidewalks.

Not something I did myself, but a simple water harvesting scheme that directs roof water around trees by simply having the ground concave around them, stopping run off!

Really great stuff, here is there website!

My nephew has had a bike for a while, but only recently got proficient enough with it. He rides around the neighborhood while I walk with him.

I myself use my bike as a car alternative when I can, even though my neighborhood isn't really made for it and things can be spread out. He likes slushies, and there's a store right outside our neighborhood so I let him bike to it. He really enjoyed it, and wants to ride his bike lots of other places now too. I'm still a little restrictive about where we go because he's still wobbling on training wheels, not everywhere has a sidewalk, and it's alot longer a trip cause I can't really bike with him.

I hope though, once he's more stable and off training wheels I can take him on trips to the further away grocery stores with me.

Just a few weeks ago, when I took a walk to the post office, he freaked about telling me I can't walk there, I need a car. And now, he has a taste of the extra freedom he could have on his own! Kind of wonderful to see.

Additionally, I saw a guy that mows lawns pulling his mower along with him on a bike! Yipee! Also an old graying man biked past the other day. I see a pretty big age gradient of people on bikes, but a higher percent of men than women, I hope that evens out.
