I am incredibly proud to announce that baCta has raised a €7M round, led by LocalGlobe and daphni, with participation from OVNI Capital as well as visionary founders such as Adèle James from Phagos, Timothee Lacroix from Mistral AI and Fabien Koutchekian from Genomines. 🌍 The Mission: enable sustainable abundance At baCta, we are finalizing the agricultural revolution initiated 12 000 years ago: gaining complete mastery over microorganisms and turning them into programmable molecular factories. We are building a future where these organisms synthesize chemicals, medicines, and materials at every scale, increasing the benefits of industrial civilization without the downsides of extraction and pollution. 🏭The Engine: baCtaForge By combining breakthroughs in synthetic biology, robotics, and Generative AI, we are designing industrial strains faster than ever before. We automate manual workflows and leverage our genome-to-factory AI model to guide our experiments. This creates a loop of bio-based reinforcement learning, decreasing the cost and timelines to industrial viability by an order of magnitude. 🟥 The First Step: Astaxanthin This isn’t just theory. We are already scaling our first molecule, Astaxanthin, to commercial volumes. We are proving that bioproduction can be a cost-competitive, drop-in replacement for the petrochemical supply chain. This is just the beginning. We are building the platform to target all industrial ingredients. Study Visit at Acies Bio Pilot Facility Recap Yesterday was an action-packed day for our visitors. They had the opportunity to learn about how Acies approaches biomanufacturing and see first-hand the diversely equipped facility dedicated to bioprocess development. We also hosted special guests: - Stef Denayer, who presented the CoPilot project and what it brings to the table within the EU biomanufacturing space - Borut Ceh, who introduced the recently founded Slovenia Biotech Hills as a national biotech hub, that aims to position Slovenia as the leader in EU biotechnology Of course, we also seized plenty of opportunities to connect and share ideas with our guests from diverse sets of backgrounds. We would like to thank everybody that took their time to join us, as well as the Pilots4U by CoPilot that enabled us to host this event.
