Doll Dreams
Jan. 29th, 2023 05:10 pmI've had several dreams about dolls since I started collecting them.
My most recent doll dream was about going to an old antique/thrift store, and finding several very strange ball-jointed dolls. (this is a recurring theme. but the store itself and the dolls are always different.) I think I found three separate dolls that I desperately wanted. Two of them were about 1:6 scale, cast in some sort of transparent plastic that was most likely not resin. One was a sculpt I did not recognize from any waking dolls, and the other was a shrunken Lillycat Ellana. Ellana specifically, NOT Chibi Lana. I think there may have been a third of these strange transparent dolls, but I do not remember. They were made of colored transparent material, one of them was a softer plastic almost like vynil, and the other may have been resin or acrylic as it was hard. I want to say one of them was green and one was red, but I'm unsure. I desperately wanted them but they were much too expensive so I reluctantly put them back. Some time later I noticed some old porcelain collector dolls up on a shelf, one of which was very large. She was wearing a green floral print dress that reminds me of the dress worn by my childhood porcelain doll. Her torso was soft, made of stuffed fabric, but her extremities were smooth porcelain and her elbows and knees were even double jointed. I don't remember details of her face or hair, just that I liked it. She was absolutely gigantic for a doll, too. When I held her seated on my arm against my hip, I think she came up past my shoulder. Because her arms were jointed I could pose her like she was holding onto me. I fell madly in love with her and decided that she was worth the money to buy her even though she cost the same amount as the smaller transparent dolls. I'm not sure if the details of her construction were part of the dream or post dream musings, but she was strung with elastic like a standard resin BJD through channels sewn into her torso. I feel like she must have been rather firmly stuffed in order to work correctly, but in my dream she was soft and plush to hold.
I desperately want to make this doll some day.
